Using the HAZOP procedure to assess a steam boiler safety system at a university hospital located in Brazil

The fierce competition between organizations has stimulated the production sector to improve its production processes simultaneously with the quality of its products, which, in short, heats up the economy and presents strong challenges to government agencies and employers, especially when considering the safety of employees in their workplace. The differential of this study is stated in the application of HAZOP in the boiler sector of a hospital, in other words, , in the micro industrial area of a company that provides services In this context, this paper aims to identify the risks present in the fire-tube boilers of the University Hospital of Santa Maria, RS. The method used follows the application practices of the HAZOP tool. Therefore, on this basis, we proceeded with bibliographic analysis, methodologies, references, on-site visits at the university hospital, and studies of investments made in steam generators. Due to this study, it was possible to show that the industry under study has no operation and maintenance default for the boiler, resulting in a high possibility of failure in the system as a whole and, in the case of an explosion, catastrophic consequences

A inovação em nanotecnologia farmacêutica no bloco econômico do BRIC

A capacidade de inovação tecnológica de uma nação é determinada pelo avanço do conhecimento científico, que por sua vez apresenta uma interconexão entre a base de conhecimento científico e a produção tecnológica. Logo, há uma relação estreita entre a capacidade de produção de riqueza e liderança em ciência e tecnologia. Nesse contexto objetiva-se mensurar a inovação advinda da produção científica em nanotecnologia farmacêutica nos países do bloco econômico BRIC (Brasil, Rússia, Índia e China), visando realizar um estudo comparativo entre esses países. Procura-se identificar a posição do Brasil nesse contexto, pois sabe-se que os avanços nos campos da ciência, tecnologia e inovação constituem elementos fundamentais para a promoção do desenvolvimento econômico e social sustentável de uma nação.The technological innovation capacity of a nation is determined by the advance of scientific knowledge, which in turn has a close interconnection between the base of scientific and technological production. So, there is a close relationship between the capacity of wealth creation and leadership in science and technology. In this context the objective is to measure the innovation coming from the scientific literature in pharmaceutical nanotechnology in the countries of BRIC bloc (Brazil, Russia, India and China), to conduct a comparative study among these countries. ANÁLISE DA EFICIÊNCIA DO MERCADO FUTURO DE MILHO NO BRASIL

Este trabalho testa a eficiência do mercado futuro de milho no Brasil, através da análise de cointegração para preços spot e futuro desta commodity, utilizando o Método dos Mínimos Quadrados Ordinários (MQO). Sabendo que a definição dos modelos de testes de eficiência de mercado depende da condição, foram realizados estudos de raiz unitários que confirmaram que as séries eram integradas de ordem um. Em função da não-estacionariedade das séries de preços, os quais confirmaram a existência de um vetor de cointegração no modelo analisado, constatando, dessa forma, a presença de uma relação de longo prazo entre os preços. Quando há evidência de cointegração entre duas ou mais variáveis, um modelo de correção de erro válido também deve existir entre elas. Dessa forma, o modelo de correção de erro inicialmente utilizado foi o modelo VEC (Vector Error Correction). A escolha do melhor modelo (VEC linear ou TVEC com dois regimes) para as séries temporais do preço do milho no mercado brasileiro foi realizada por meio da minimização do critério de informação de Akaike, ou seja, o menor valor indicou o melhor modelo. No primeiro regime, que corresponde a 10,3% do total da amostra, não  há integração de longo prazo entre os preços do milho brasileiro. Em contrapartida, no segundo regime, que representa 89,7% da amostra total, ocorre cointegração a longo prazo, confirmando a hipótese de mercados eficientes. Dessa forma, pode-se verificar que os mercados brasileiros de milho são eficientes para o período estudado

Strategy for the development of agricultural machinery : importance of patent analysis

During the product development, patents help identify new project opportunities and, if well analyzed, can reveal technical strategies in terms of how countries, companies, and universities link patents and product development. In the context of the agricultural machinery sector there is a complexity in the integration of data from patents with the stages of development conceptions. In this context, the article aims to present how the information obtained from a patent bank can be used for the development of agricultural machinery. As a methodology, the Systematic Bibliographic Review was selected to identify and relate strategies that add value throughout the agricultural machinery project. As a result, research has shown that the use of patent information can assist in the development of agricultural machinery from technical data. In addition, patents are characterized as a valuable source of technological information, as it is inexpensive and capable of feeding a company in its own research activity and in the development of new products. It is concluded that the information from patents, suggested as strategies in the model of agricultural machinery development, allows for managerial and technical decisions aimed at improving products. Finally, the research contributed to fill the information gap between patents and the development of agricultural machinery, a diffusion of data that, if well connected, can promote a competitive differential in companies

Systematic analysis of reference models in product development: case studies in the agricultural machinery and implementation sector

With the growth in the machinery and agricultural implements sector the importance of the area of Product Development Process (PDP) has expanded significantly in the last decades. The surge is due to increased competition among manufacturers, thus requiring high quality products with greater efficiency in their production processes. In addition, the management of the phases that comprise the PDP is considered complex by specialized literature and manufacturing companies. Thus, the objective of the study is to present the main reference models that contextualize the PDP in order to systematically analyze its methodological classifications. In addition, the research seeks to explore the work methodologies currently applied in the PDP of the agricultural machinery and implements manufacturers located in the northwestern region of Rio Grande do Sul - Brazil. The research adopted the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and the case study as investigation methods, classified as descriptive and comparative, of an exploratory nature. As a result, it was possible to identify a set of reference models that are usually adopted to operationalize the PDP. Research has shown that project support tools are not used by companies, while design and industrial management tools are applied. Finally, it was verified that companies have little knowledge about reference models

ANÁLISE DA PERCEPÇÃO DOS EMPREENDEDORES DE ECONOMIA SOLIDÁRIA NO MUNICÍPIO DE SANTA MARIA – RS

O estudo objetiva analisar as características e as percepções dos empreendedores participantes de atividades de economia solidária no município de Santa Maria-RS. Metodologicamente o estudo é de natureza qualitativa de abordagem exploratória e descritiva, fazendo uso de procedimentos quantitativos para o tratamento dos dados, e utilizou-se do questionário como técnica de coleta de dados. Os resultados do estudo permitiram traçar um perfil dos empreendimentos econômicos solidários, participantes do Projeto Esperança/Cooesperança, considerado referência na região central do Rio Grande do Sul (RS) devido às ações desenvolvidas. Identificou-se também que o município dispõe de um ambiente propício para o desenvolvimento da economia solidária, afirmativa que fica evidente, visto que 79,41% dos pesquisados apresentaram uma percepção positiva das condições oferecidas pelo município, sendo reforçado ainda mais pela realização de eventos de referência como a FEICOOP e a Feira EcoSol
