Factors Influencing TVET Teacher’s TPACK Competencies

    Get PDF
Developing competent teachers is one of the main focuses of national TVET's transformation. The teaching profession demands that teachers constantly strive to improve the quality of their professionalism to become competent and quality teachers. In addition, TVET teachers must be prepared to withstand the technological boom in the industrial revolution 4.0 digital era to keep them in line with 21st-century learning. Thus, the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework is designed to meet the competencies that TVET teachers need. The primary purpose of this study was to assess the factors that influence the TPACK competency of TVET Teachers. Furthermore, to determine the relationship between mentoring role, school environment, and TVET teacher’s competencies. A total of 400 TVET teachers from two categories of TVET-related institutions under the Malaysian Education TVET division were selected as the study’s sample: vocational education upper secondary stream (PVMA) from National Secondary School (SS) and Vocational College (VC). Data were analyzed using a t-test, correlation, and multiple linear regression.  The findings revealed significant differences in the level of technological knowledge competency between the two school categories. The role of mentoring and the school environment is also significantly related to the TPACK competency of TVET teachers. Meanwhile, the school environment predicts a change in the TPACK teachers' competency for TVET teachers in Peninsular Malaysia. Therefore, the study discovers the role of the mentoring role and the school environment in determining new factors influencing TVET teachers’ TPACK competency. For further research, it is recommended to study the mentoring role in mediating the relationship between the school environment and TVET teachers’ TPACK competency

Wake modifications in confined flows due to the presence of a downstream cylinder in staggered arrangement

    Get PDF
In the present study, confined flows around two square cylinders in staggered arrangement were numerically investigated. Cross-flow and streamwise center-to-center spacings of one- and three-cylinder diameters, respectively, were considered. Simulations were carried out at Reynolds numbers Re = 50,100,150 and 180, where the resulting wakes are laminar and periodic. Results indicate that the presence of the downstream cylinder tends to reduce the Strouhal number, amplitude and the time-averaged lift coefficient of the upstream cylinder relative to the single cylinder cases. Furthermore, the time variations of upstream cylinder’s lift coefficient behave similar to that of a single cylinder

The Malaysian outbound tourism market is recognized as one of emerging consumer demand based on the amount of expenditure reported. Despite this, research relating to the motivations for Malaysian outbound tourism, especially the push and pull factors are scarce. Therefore, it is necessary to understand why people travel and choose a specific international destination, and in line with this, this paper conceptually examines the influence of culture, demographic variables and tourists’ motivations in destination selection

Preliminary characterization of corn cob ash as an alternative material for ceramic hollow fiber membrane (CHFM/CCA)

    Get PDF
Currently, exchanging trends in the expensive usage of ceramic materials such as alumina, zirconia etc. into economical ceramic raw sources have been extensively studied over the last decade for various technological applications. Despite the fact that this ceramic compound or elements offer a great performance and stability, especially at high temperature, the basic commercial price and higher sintering temperature of this compound which is a little bit higher have hindered the used of these materials. Thus interest in fabricating of bio-ceramic membrane using corn cob ash (CCA), an agricultural by product not only offered the development of new low cost materials but also able to enhance better properties and performance. The suitability of corn cob ash as an alternative material for ceramic hollow fiber membrane fabrication (CHFM/CCA) as a main substrate was investigated via combined phase inversion and sintering technique based on several controlled operating parameters. The effects of selected bore fluid (5, 10, 15 and 20 mL/min) and different sintering temperature (800 °C, 900 °C, 1000 °C, 1100 °C) towards membrane structure and properties were observed and studied. Interestingly, characterization analysis of the SEM morphology showed that the potential of the main constituents of corn cob ash which highly consisted of silica, alumina and calcium oxide are able to improve the properties of CHFM/CCA by lowering sintering temperature (1000 °C) as compared to the standard CHFM bodies which normally has sintering temperature higher than 1200 °C. Thus, the use of corn cob ash not only able to enhance ceramic properties but also able to reduce sintering temperature. Reduction in energy consumption with slightly reduced sintering temperature also will offer a better sustainable process through recycling abundant waste materials as well as emphasis on the green resources. With that respect, the bio-material of corn cob ash is capable to replace the commercial ceramic membrane materials for membrane applications by considering the availability of this agro waste product as the main crops in most countries in the world
