    Two-point correlation function of an exclusion process with hole-dependent rates

    We consider an exclusion process on a ring in which a particle hops to an empty neighbouring site with a rate that depends on the number of vacancies nn in front of it. In the steady state, using the well known mapping of this model to the zero range process, we write down an exact formula for the partition function and the particle-particle correlation function in the canonical ensemble. In the thermodynamic limit, we find a simple analytical expression for the generating function of the correlation function. This result is applied to the hop rate u(n)=1+(b/n)u(n)=1+(b/n) for which a phase transition between high-density laminar phase and low-density jammed phase occurs for b>2b > 2. For these rates, we find that at the critical density, the correlation function decays algebraically with a continuously varying exponent b2b-2. We also calculate the two-point correlation function above the critical density, and find that the correlation length diverges with a critical exponent ν=1/(b2)\nu=1/(b-2) for b3b 3. These results are compared with those obtained using an exact series expansion for finite systems.Comment: Accepted in Phys. Rev.

    Genetic variation, linkage mapping of QTL and correlation studies for yield, root, and agronomic traits for aerobic adaptation

    BACKGROUND: Water scarcity and drought have seriously threatened traditional rice cultivation practices in several parts of the world, including India. Aerobic rice that uses significantly less water than traditional flooded systems has emerged as a promising water-saving technology. The identification of QTL conferring improved aerobic adaptation may facilitate the development of high-yielding aerobic rice varieties. In this study, experiments were conducted for mapping QTL for yield, root-related traits, and agronomic traits under aerobic conditions using HKR47 × MAS26 and MASARB25 × Pusa Basmati 1460 F(2:3) mapping populations. RESULTS: A total of 35 QTL associated with 14 traits were mapped on chromosomes 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 11 in MASARB25 x Pusa Basmati 1460 and 14 QTL associated with 9 traits were mapped on chromosomes 1, 2, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 in HKR47 × MAS26. Two QTL (qGY(8.1) with an R(2) value of 34.0% and qGY(2.1) with an R(2) value of 22.8%) and one QTL (qGY(2.2) with an R(2) value of 43.2%) were identified for grain yield under aerobic conditions in the mapping populations MASARB25 × Pusa Basmati 1460 and HKR47 × MAS26, respectively. A number of breeding lines with higher yield per plant, root length, dry biomass, length-breadth ratio, and with Pusa Basmati 1460-specific alleles in a homozygous or heterozygous condition at the BAD2 locus were identified that will serve as novel material for the selection of stable aerobic Basmati rice breeding lines. CONCLUSIONS: Our results identified positive correlation between some of the root traits and yield under aerobic conditions, indicating the role of root traits for improving yield under aerobic situations possibly through improved water and nutrient uptake. Co-localization of QTL for yield, root traits, and yield-related agronomic traits indicates that the identified QTL may be immediately exploited in marker-assisted-breeding to develop novel high-yielding aerobic rice varieties

    Formulation and In-Vitro evaluation of Nanocrystal formulation of poorly soluble drugs

    Introduction:-Poor solubility of drug compounds which accounts for 40% of new molecules investigated at present is an issue of great concern in pharmaceutical industry and reducing particle size (i,e to reduce below 1000 nm )of drug candidate to be investigated is one of the simplest and efficient ways to overcome this challenge. Drug nanocrystals, solid nanosized drug particles are defined as formulation having 100% drug, which are covered by a stabilizer layer. In this study attempt was made to formulate and evaluate nanocrystals of poorly soluble drugs having low oral bioavailability. Material and method:- Nanocrystals were prepared successfully by varying concentration of different stabilizers by anti-solvent precipitation method. The formulated nanocrystals were evaluated by determining physicochemical characteristics such as physical appearance, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray powder diffractometry, solubility studies, particle size distribution, zeta potential, and in vitro drug release profile studies. Results:- An in-vitro study was performed on the successful formulation in comparison to drug powder using dissolution apparatus The particle size of RVT and PSNC-3 was found to be 1975.3 nm and 790.1 nm respectively. Conclusion: Precipitated Nanocrystals formulated with different stablizer’s method resultedin formation of small and uniform RVT nanocrystals with an improved saturation solubility, dissolution rate.     Anaesthetic management in a case of large plunging ranula with difficult airway: A case report

    AbstractPlunging ranula is a mucous retention cyst found on the floor of mouth which arises from the submandibular and sublingual salivary glands extending to lateral aspect of neck, which may often cause potential airway obstruction leading to difficulty in airway management. A forty year old female patient was admitted to our hospital with large, painless swelling in the floor of mouth extending to the lateral part of body of mandible and neck. This intraoral swelling distorted the normal airway anatomy thus making airway management difficult as the patient was planned for excision of swelling under general anaesthesia. So we present a case of successful management of a difficult airway by using awake fibre optic intubation in a patient posted for excision of a large plunging ranula under general anaesthesia

Both children and adults may present with ingestion or insertion of foreign body inside body cavitiesCase presentation: Two foreign nationals were brought by customs officer to emergency department with alleged history of insertion of cocaine packets through anus.Any subjects that caused omission from patients were admitted and rectal examinations were carried out. Rectum was filled with cocaine capsules which were retrieved manually as far as we could reach.Conclusion: It is likely that the use of various objects for anal eroticism is increasing, resulting in an increased incidence of retained rectal foreign bodies.Copyright©2012 Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology.     A Positive Deviance Inquiry on Effective Communicative Practices of Rural Indian Women Entrepreneurs

    Why do some rural women entrepreneurs in India succeed despite low levels of literacy, staggering household responsibility, unsupportive social structures, and oppressive cultural practices? The present article employed the Positive Deviance (PD) approach to identify the effective communication practices of rural women entrepreneurs in Uttar Pradesh, India, who succeed against overwhelming odds. Starting with an initial pool of 21,024 rural Indian women who received microloans for income-generation, and through several sieving rounds of focus group conversations with over 1,100 women, 24 PD women entrepreneurs were identified. A variety of participatory processes and liberating structures—Discovery and Action Dialogues (DADs), improvisational theater and prototyping, personal storytelling, and card-sorting games—were employed to identify the highly uncommon practices of PD entrepreneurs. These uncommon practices included micro interpersonal behaviours to connect deeply with customers, personalised branding of their businesses, daily diary jottings to monitor sales and profits, reframing value propositions to persuade customers, and others.publishedVersio

    Efficacy of vijaysar, aloevera alone and their combination in the treatment of newly diagnosed cases of type 2 diabetes mellitus: a randomized single blind prospective study

    Background: Diabetes mellitus is a disease was known since ancient time and all system of medicine over world were tried to cure this disease. Unfortunately the numbers of diabetes patients are increasing day by day due to many risk factors such as sedentary life, obesity etc.Methods: A total of 120 patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus attending OPD of UPUMS, Saifai, Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, India, were included in the study. Patients were divided into 4 groups. Group-1, 2, 3 and 4 received Aloevera, Vijaysar, Aloevera + Vijaysar and Glimepiride respectively for thirteen weeks. Sample for fasting blood sugar and postprandial blood sugar were measured at baseline, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 8th and at 13th week. HbA1c and Lipid profile were measured at baseline and at thirteen week.Results: Significant decrease in FPG, 2hPG, and HbA1c level were achieved in all groups but effects was maximum in Glimepiride group. Vijaysar had shown better glucose control than Aloevera as well as Aloevera + Vijaysar group. Synergism was shown by both herbal drugs for FPG control but not for 2hPG. The Effect of Vijaysar alone on 2hPG was similar to Glimepiride.Conclusions: Vijaysar could be a promising herbal drug for the treatment of mild uncomplicated cases of type-2 diabetes mellitus; however both drugs have shown synergism for FPG control. Both herbal drugs were safe during our study, only one patient of Vijaysar group had complaint of diarrhoea, which was subsided one week later
