Citation Networks in High Energy Physics
The citation network constituted by the SPIRES data base is investigated
empirically. The probability that a given paper in the SPIRES data base has
citations is well described by simple power laws, ,
with for less than 50 citations and for 50 or more citations. Two models are presented that both represent the
data well, one which generates power laws and one which generates a stretched
exponential. It is not possible to discriminate between these models on the
present empirical basis. A consideration of citation distribution by subfield
shows that the citation patterns of high energy physics form a remarkably
homogeneous network. Further, we utilize the knowledge of the citation
distributions to demonstrate the extreme improbability that the citation
records of selected individuals and institutions have been obtained by a random
draw on the resulting distribution.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures, 2 table
Live and Dead Nodes
In this paper, we explore the consequences of a distinction between `live'
and `dead' network nodes; `live' nodes are able to acquire new links whereas
`dead' nodes are static. We develop an analytically soluble growing network
model incorporating this distinction and show that it can provide a
quantitative description of the empirical network composed of citations and
references (in- and out-links) between papers (nodes) in the SPIRES database of
scientific papers in high energy physics. We also demonstrate that the death
mechanism alone can result in power law degree distributions for the resulting

Second harmonic generation and birefringence of some ternary pnictide semiconductors
A first-principles study of the birefringence and the frequency dependent
second harmonic generation (SHG) coefficients of the ternary pnictide
semiconductors with formula ABC (A = Zn, Cd; B = Si, Ge; C = As, P) with
the chalcopyrite structures was carried out. We show that a simple empirical
observation that a smaller value of the gap is correlated with larger value of
SHG is qualitatively true. However, simple inverse power scaling laws between
gaps and SHG were not found. Instead, the real value of the nonlinear response
is a result of a very delicate balance between different intraband and

âThe Brickâ is not a brick: a comprehensive study of the structure and dynamics of the central molecular zone cloud G0.253+0.016

All rights reserved.In this paper we provide a comprehensive description of the internal dynamics of G0.253+0.016 (a.k.a. âthe Brickâ); one of the most massive and dense molecular clouds in the Galaxy to lack signatures of widespread star formation. As a potential host to a future generation of high-mass stars, understanding largely quiescent molecular clouds like G0.253+0.016 is of critical importance. In this paper, we reanalyse Atacama Large Millimeter Array cycle 0 HNCO J = 4(0, 4) â 3(0, 3) data at 3âmm, using two new pieces of software that we make available to the community. First, SCOUSEPY, a Python implementation of the spectral line fitting algorithm SCOUSE. Secondly, ACORNS (Agglomerative Clustering for ORganising Nested Structures), a hierarchical n-dimensional clustering algorithm designed for use with discrete spectroscopic data. Together, these tools provide an unbiased measurement of the line-of-sight velocity dispersion in this cloud, Ïvlos,1D=4.4±2.1 kmâsâ1, which is somewhat larger than predicted by velocity dispersion-size relations for the central molecular zone (CMZ). The dispersion of centroid velocities in the plane of the sky are comparable, yielding Ïvlos,1D/Ïvpos,1DâŒ1.2±0.3â . This isotropy may indicate that the line-of-sight extent of the cloud is approximately equivalent to that in the plane of the sky. Combining our kinematic decomposition with radiative transfer modelling, we conclude that G0.253+0.016 is not a single, coherent, and centrally condensed molecular cloud; âthe Brickâ is not a brick. Instead, G0.253+0.016 is a dynamically complex and hierarchically structured molecular cloud whose morphology is consistent with the influence of the orbital dynamics and shear in the CMZ
Transfer Matrices and Partition-Function Zeros for Antiferromagnetic Potts Models. V. Further Results for the Square-Lattice Chromatic Polynomial
We derive some new structural results for the transfer matrix of
square-lattice Potts models with free and cylindrical boundary conditions. In
particular, we obtain explicit closed-form expressions for the dominant (at
large |q|) diagonal entry in the transfer matrix, for arbitrary widths m, as
the solution of a special one-dimensional polymer model. We also obtain the
large-q expansion of the bulk and surface (resp. corner) free energies for the
zero-temperature antiferromagnet (= chromatic polynomial) through order q^{-47}
(resp. q^{-46}). Finally, we compute chromatic roots for strips of widths 9 <=
m <= 12 with free boundary conditions and locate roughly the limiting curves.Comment: 111 pages (LaTeX2e). Includes tex file, three sty files, and 19

Population incidence and associated mortality of urinary tract infection in people living with dementia
Inclusive production of and mesons in charged current interactions
The inclusive production of the meson resonances ,
and in neutrino-nucleus charged current interactions has been
studied with the NOMAD detector exposed to the wide band neutrino beam
generated by 450 GeV protons at the CERN SPS. For the first time the
meson is observed in neutrino interactions. The statistical
significance of its observation is 6 standard deviations. The presence of
in neutrino interactions is reliably established. The average
multiplicity of these three resonances is measured as a function of several
kinematic variables. The experimental results are compared to the
multiplicities obtained from a simulation based on the Lund model. In addition,
the average multiplicity of in antineutrino - nucleus

Observation of Cabibbo-suppressed and W-exchange Lambda_c^+ baryon decays
We present measurements of the Cabibbo-suppressed decays Lambda_c^+ -->
Lambda0 K+ and Lambda_c^+ --> Sigma0 K+ (both first observations), Lambda_c^+
--> Sigma+ K+ pi- (seen with large statistics for the first time), Lambda_c^+
--> p K+ K- and Lambda_c^+ --> p phi (measured with improved accuracy).
Improved branching ratio measurements for the decays Lambda_c^+ --> Sigma+ K+
K- and Lambda_c^+ --> Sigma+ phi, which are attributed to W-exchange diagrams,
are shown. We also present the first evidence for Lambda_c^+ --> Xi(1690)^0 K+
and set an upper limit on the non-resonant decay Lambda_c^+ --> Sigma+ K+ K-.
This analysis was performed using 32.6 fb^{-1} of data collected by the Belle
