Directionally solidified eutectic gamma-gamma nickel-base superalloys
A directionally solidified multivariant eutectic gamma-gamma prime nickel-base superalloy casting having improved high temperature properties was developed. The alloy is comprised of a two phase eutectic structure consisting essentially of on a weight percent base, 6.0 to 9.0 aluminum, 5.0 to 17.0 tantalum, 0-10 cobalt, 0-6 vanadium, 0-6 rhenium, 2.0-6.0 tungsten, and the balance being nickel, subject to the proviso that the sum of the atomic percentages of aluminum plus tantalum is within the range of from 19-22, and the ratio of atomic percentages of tantalum to aluminum plus tantalum is within the range of from 0.12 to 0.23. Embedded within the gamma nickel-base matrix are aligned eutectic gamma prime phase (primarily nickel-aluminum-tantalum) reinforcing fibers
Natural Dirac Neutrinos from Warped Extra Dimension
Dirac neutrinos arising from gauged discrete symmetry \`a la Krauss-Wilczek
are implemented in the minimal custodial Randall-Sundrum model. In the case of
a normal hierarchy, all lepton masses and mixing pattern can be naturally
reproduced at the TeV scale set by the electroweak constraints, while
simultanously satisfy bounds from lepton flavour violation. A nonzero neutrino
mixing angle, , is generic in the scenario, as well as the
existence of sub-TeV right-handed Kaluza-Klein neutrinos, which may be searched
for at the LHC.Comment: Talk given at the 2nd Young Researchers Workshop "Physics Challenges

Quantization and Periodicity of the Axion Action in Topological Insulators
The Lagrangian describing the bulk electromagnetic response of a
three-dimensional strong topological insulator contains a topological `axion'
term of the form '\theta E dot B'. It is often stated (without proof) that the
corresponding action is quantized on periodic space-time and therefore
invariant under '\theta -> \theta +2\pi'. Here we provide a simple, physically
motivated proof of the axion action quantization on the periodic space-time,
assuming only that the vector potential is consistent with single-valuedness of
the electron wavefunctions in the underlying insulator.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure, version2 (section on axion action quantization of

Transitive factorizations of permutations and geometry
We give an account of our work on transitive factorizations of permutations.
The work has had impact upon other areas of mathematics such as the enumeration
of graph embeddings, random matrices, branched covers, and the moduli spaces of
curves. Aspects of these seemingly unrelated areas are seen to be related in a
unifying view from the perspective of algebraic combinatorics. At several
points this work has intertwined with Richard Stanley's in significant ways.Comment: 12 pages, dedicated to Richard Stanley on the occasion of his 70th

Laboratory observations of the photochemistry of parent molecules: A review
The photochemistry of possible parent molecules of comets has been reviewed. Quantum yields for many of the primary processes are unknown. Energy partitioning among the fragments has not been extensively investigated. A few of the studies have been performed as a function of the number of collisions that the excited molecules undergo, so that possible differences that may occur in a cometary environment may be ascertained
