On a two variable class of Bernstein-Szego measures
The one variable Bernstein-Szego theory for orthogonal polynomials on the
real line is extended to a class of two variable measures. The polynomials
orthonormal in the total degree ordering and the lexicographical ordering are
constructed and their recurrence coefficients discussed.Comment: minor change
Gamma Ray Lines from a Universal Extra Dimension
Indirect Dark Matter searches are based on the observation of secondary
particles produced by the annihilation or decay of Dark Matter. Among them,
gamma-rays are perhaps the most promising messengers, as they do not suffer
deflection or absorption on Galactic scales, so their observation would
directly reveal the position and the energy spectrum of the emitting source.
Here, we study the detailed gamma-ray energy spectrum of Kaluza--Klein Dark
Matter in a theory with 5 Universal Extra Dimensions. We focus in particular on
the two body annihilation of Dark Matter particles into a photon and another
particle, which produces monochromatic photons, resulting in a line in the
energy spectrum of gamma rays. Previous calculations in the context of the five
dimensional UED model have computed the line signal from annihilations into
\gamma \gamma, but we extend these results to include \gamma Z and \gamma H
final states. We find that these spectral lines are subdominant compared to the
predicted \gamma \gamma signal, but they would be important as follow-up
signals in the event of the observation of the \gamma \gamma line, in order to
distinguish the 5d UED model from other theoretical scenarios.Comment: 21 pages, 6 figure
The angular distribution of the reaction
The reaction is very important for low-energy
( MeV) antineutrino experiments. In this paper we calculate
the positron angular distribution, which at low energies is slightly backward.
We show that weak magnetism and recoil corrections have a large effect on the
angular distribution, making it isotropic at about 15 MeV and slightly forward
at higher energies. We also show that the behavior of the cross section and the
angular distribution can be well-understood analytically for MeV by calculating to , where is the nucleon mass. The
correct angular distribution is useful for separating events from other reactions and detector backgrounds, as well as for
possible localization of the source (e.g., a supernova) direction. We comment
on how similar corrections appear for the lepton angular distributions in the
deuteron breakup reactions and . Finally, in the reaction , the
angular distribution of the outgoing neutrons is strongly forward-peaked,
leading to a measurable separation in positron and neutron detection points,
also potentially useful for rejecting backgrounds or locating the source

Association of variants in the PCSK1 gene with obesity in the EPIC-Norfolk study
Recently, the rs6232 (N221D) and rs6235 (S690T) SNPs in the PCSK1 gene were associated with obesity in a meta-analysis comprising more than 13 000 individuals of European ancestry. Each additional minor allele of rs6232 or rs6235 was associated with a 1.34- or 1.22-fold increase in the risk of obesity, respectively. So far, only one relatively small study has aimed to replicate these findings, but could not confirm the association of the rs6235 SNP and did not study the rs6232 variant. In the present study, we examined the associations of the rs6232 and rs6235 SNPs with obesity in a population-based cohort consisting of 20 249 individuals of European descent from Norfolk, UK. Logistic regression and generalized linear models were used to test the associations of the risk alleles with obesity and related quantitative traits, respectively. Neither of the SNPs was significantly associated with obesity, BMI or waist circumference under the additive genetic model (P > 0.05). However, we observed an interaction between rs6232 and age on the level of BMI (P = 0.010) and risk of obesity (P = 0.020). The rs6232 SNP was associated with BMI (P = 0.021) and obesity (P = 0.022) in the younger individuals [less than median age (59 years)], but not among the older age group (P = 0.81 and P = 0.68 for BMI and obesity, respectively). In conclusion, our data suggest that the PCSK1 rs6232 and rs6235 SNPs are not major contributors to common obesity in the general population. However, the effect of rs6232 may be age-dependent
CARACTERIZAÇÃO DOS RESÍDUOS DAS INDÚSTRIAS CERÂMICAS ESTRUTURAIS DA REGIÃO DO CARIRI – CE
Existe uma grande preocupação por parte das indústrias com a disposição dos resíduos gerados ao longo do processo produtivo, e no setor de cerâmica estrutural não é diferente. O descarte desses resíduos, de um modo geral, ocasiona um impacto ambiental negativo. Assim, o presente trabalho tem por objetivo analisar os resíduos produzidos pelas indústrias cerâmicas estruturais da região do Cariri – CE, para fins de reutilização. A caracterização dos resíduos foi realizada antes e após queima para três produtos distintos: lajota, tijolo de 8 furos e telha romana, por meio das técnicas de difração de raios–X (DRX), Espectroscopia vibracional na região do infravermelho (IV), análise térmica diferencial (ATD), análise térmica gravimétrica (ATG) e fluorescência de raios-X. Com base nos resultados de DRX (após queima) pode-se concluir que as amostras são resíduos principalmente constituídos de quartzo (SiO2) em maior quantidade e feldspato e rutilo em menor quantidade, confirmados através dos espectros de infravermelho, assim como, é possível observar na fluorescência de raios-X concentrações mais altas de SiO2, a presença de Fe2O3 que caracteriza a cor avermelha nos resíduos, além de outros óxidos como Al2O3, CaO, Na2O, K2Oe TiO2. A Tentative Gamma-Ray Line from Dark Matter Annihilation at the Fermi Large Area Telescope
The observation of a gamma-ray line in the cosmic-ray fluxes would be a
smoking-gun signature for dark matter annihilation or decay in the Universe. We
present an improved search for such signatures in the data of the Fermi Large
Area Telescope (LAT), concentrating on energies between 20 and 300 GeV. Besides
updating to 43 months of data, we use a new data-driven technique to select
optimized target regions depending on the profile of the Galactic dark matter
halo. In regions close to the Galactic center, we find a 4.6 sigma indication
for a gamma-ray line at 130 GeV. When taking into account the look-elsewhere
effect the significance of the observed excess is 3.2 sigma. If interpreted in
terms of dark matter particles annihilating into a photon pair, the
observations imply a dark matter mass of 129.8\pm2.4^{+7}_{-13} GeV and a
partial annihilation cross-section of = 1.27\pm0.32^{+0.18}_{-0.28}
x 10^-27 cm^3 s^-1 when using the Einasto dark matter profile. The evidence for
the signal is based on about 50 photons; it will take a few years of additional

A new multivariable 6-psi-6 summation formula
By multidimensional matrix inversion, combined with an A_r extension of
Jackson's 8-phi-7 summation formula by Milne, a new multivariable 8-phi-7
summation is derived. By a polynomial argument this 8-phi-7 summation is
transformed to another multivariable 8-phi-7 summation which, by taking a
suitable limit, is reduced to a new multivariable extension of the
nonterminating 6-phi-5 summation. The latter is then extended, by analytic
continuation, to a new multivariable extension of Bailey's very-well-poised
6-psi-6 summation formula.Comment: 16 page
Interruption of torus doubling bifurcation and genesis of strange nonchaotic attractors in a quasiperiodically forced map : Mechanisms and their characterizations
A simple quasiperiodically forced one-dimensional cubic map is shown to
exhibit very many types of routes to chaos via strange nonchaotic attractors
(SNAs) with reference to a two-parameter space. The routes include
transitions to chaos via SNAs from both one frequency torus and period doubled
torus. In the former case, we identify the fractalization and type I
intermittency routes. In the latter case, we point out that atleast four
distinct routes through which the truncation of torus doubling bifurcation and
the birth of SNAs take place in this model. In particular, the formation of
SNAs through Heagy-Hammel, fractalization and type--III intermittent mechanisms
are described. In addition, it has been found that in this system there are
some regions in the parameter space where a novel dynamics involving a sudden
expansion of the attractor which tames the growth of period-doubling
bifurcation takes place, giving birth to SNA. The SNAs created through
different mechanisms are characterized by the behaviour of the Lyapunov
exponents and their variance, by the estimation of phase sensitivity exponent

Coronal Temperature Diagnostic Capability of the Hinode/X-Ray Telescope Based on Self-Consistent Calibration
The X-Ray Telescope (XRT) onboard the Hinode satellite is an X-ray imager
that observes the solar corona with unprecedentedly high angular resolution
(consistent with its 1" pixel size). XRT has nine X-ray analysis filters with
different temperature responses. One of the most significant scientific
features of this telescope is its capability of diagnosing coronal temperatures
from less than 1 MK to more than 10 MK, which has never been accomplished
before. To make full use of this capability, accurate calibration of the
coronal temperature response of XRT is indispensable and is presented in this
article. The effect of on-orbit contamination is also taken into account in the
calibration. On the basis of our calibration results, we review the
coronal-temperature-diagnostic capability of XRT
