    Performance comparisons of AODV, secure AODV and adaptive secure AODV routing protocols in free attack simulation environment.

    There have been various secure routing protocols proposed for mobile ad hoc networks. Most of these protocols are analyzed by three standard techniques: simulation, security analysis and real network testbed. In this paper, Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocols was selected as the basis of the entire simulations. Due to the needs of securing the routing in the wireless ad hoc networks, Secure AODV (SAODV) was developed to add security to original AODV which includes cryptographic operations that can have a significant impact on the routing performance. To get better performance while maintaining the secure routing, Adaptive SAODV (A-SAODV) was developed based on the SAODV implementation, which was claimed to introduce some improvement on the routing compared to the SAODV. Based on this justification, some analysis and studies are made on the performance and impacts using AODV, Secure AODV (SAODV) and Adaptive Secure AODV (A-SAODV) in a free-attack simulation environment to analyze these routing protocols and make some comparisons on the performance. The collection of simulation results will show the performance impact of security implementation into the original AODV after the implementations of SAODV and A-SAODV into the networks

    Development of Respiratory Rate Estimation Technique Using Electrocardiogram and Photoplethysmogram for Continuous Health Monitoring

    Abnormal vital signs often predict a serious condition of acutely ill hospital patients in 24 hours. The notable fluctuations of respiratory rate (RR) are highly predictive of deteriorations among the vital signs measured. Traditional methods of detecting RR are performed by directly measuring the air flow in or out of the lungs or indirectly measuring the changes of the chest volume. These methods require the use of cumbersome devices, which may interfere with natural breathing, are uncomfortable, have frequently moving artifacts, and are extremely expensive. This study aims to estimate the RR from electrocardiogram (ECG) and photoplethysmogram (PPG) signals, which consist of passive and non-invasive acquisition modules. Algorithms have been validated by using PhysioNet’s Multiparameter Intelligent Monitoring in Intensive Care II (MIMIC-II)’s patient datasets. RR estimation provides the value of mean absolute error (MAE) for ECG as 1.25 bpm (MIMIC-II) and 1.05 bpm for the acquired data. MAE for PPG is 1.15 bpm (MIMIC-II) and 0.90 bpm for the acquired data. By using 1-minute windows, this method reveals that the filtering method efficiently extracted respiratory information from the ECG and PPG signals. Smaller MAE for PPG signals results from fewer artifacts due to easy sensor attachment for the PPG because PPG recording requires only one-finger pulse oximeter sensor placement. However, ECG recording requires at least three electrode placements at three positions on the subject’s body surface for a single lead (lead II), thereby increasing the artifacts.     This paper proposed a design of optical switching controller using FPGA for OCDMA encoder system. The encoder is one of the new technologies that use to transmit the coded data in the optical communication system by using FPGA and optical switches. It is providing a high security for data transmission due to all data will be transmitting in binary code form. The output si gnals from FPGA are coded with a binary code that given to an optical switch before it signal modulate with the carrier and transmit to the receiver. In this paper, AA and 55 data were used for source 1 and source 2. It is generated sample data and sent packet dat a to the FPGA and stored it into RAM. The simulation results have done by using software Verilog Spartan 2 programming to simulate. After that the output will produces at waveform to display the output. The main function of FPGA controlling unit is producing sing le pulse and configuring optical switching system

    Brake Motion Control for Quadruped Hopping Robot by Using Reference Height Control System

    In this paper, the generation of brake motion control for our developed quadruped hopping robot while moving on two dimensional spaces by jumping continuously is discussed. The braking motion method which is approached is by applying the reference height control system to create the differences of front leg and back leg while making moving performance and correct the body posture which has inclined to make the quadruped hopping robot jump vertically while braking performances. On the other hand, this approached method can be used as the collision-avoidance behavior for the quadruped hopping robot. The MATLAB/Simulink model is used in order to conduct the pattern generation of quadruped hopping robot. As the result, effectiveness of approach method is confirmed to generate brake motion control of quadruped hopping robot while making continuous jumping vertically.     Corneal laceration caused by river crab

    A 5-year-old boy presented with right eye pain associated with tearing and photophobia of 1-day duration. He gave a history of playing with a river crab when suddenly the crab clamped his fingers. He attempted to fling the crab off, but the crab flew and hit his right eye. Ocular examination revealed a right eye corneal ulcer with clumps of fibrin located beneath the corneal ulcer and 1.6 mm level of hypopyon. At presentation, the Seidel test was negative, with a deep anterior chamber. Culture from the corneal scrapping specimen grew Citrobacter diversus and Proteus vulgaris, and the boy was treated with topical gentamicin and ceftazidime eyedrops. Fibrin clumps beneath the corneal ulcer subsequently dislodged, and revealed a full-thickness corneal laceration wound with a positive Seidel test and shallow anterior chamber. The patient underwent emergency corneal toileting and suturing. Postoperatively, he was treated with oral ciprofloxacin 250 mg 12-hourly for 1 week, topical gentamicin, ceftazidime, and dexamethasone eyedrops for 4 weeks. Right eye vision improved to 6/9 and 6/6 with pinhole at the 2-week follow-up following corneal suture removal

    Spatial Adaptation of Protected Area Buffer Zones in Urban Setting: Impact on human and conservation agenda

    It is considerably challenging task to have a buffer zone (BZ) around protected areas (PA) in the urban area due to the conflict of interest between conservation and development. There is a need for ‘win-win situation’. This research is to identify the impact of a potential buffer zone on human and conservation of natural environment which derived from the stakeholders’ understanding. In-depth interviews with stakeholders of the PA and their surroundings were carried out.     Graphical user interface for wireless patient monitoring system using zigbee communication

    Nowadays, heart related diseases are on the rise situation. In Malaysia, the proportion of patients is increasing day by day but the number of doctor and nurse slightly different situation. For this reason, the new propose graphical user interface for wireless patient monitoring system is proposed in order to help doctors and nurses to monitor their patient wirelessly for 24 hours by using a designated proposed device. This system runs as prototype to minimize the costing issue in the hospital. This system consists of software and hardware. Visual Basic Net 2010 software is used to design the graphical user interface (GUI) and Peripheral Interface Controller (PIC) 16F877A microcontroller is used as the hardware to implement the whole proposed system. This system is can be divided into three parts. There are three stages that involved in completing the system. The first is developing a program for the microcontroller, the second is transmitting the data from microcontroller to the personal computer (PC) using XBee module and the third is designing the GUI. In conclusion, the proposed GUI for wireless patient monitoring system facilitated the doctor and nurse in monitoring the patient and increased the efficiency of patient monitoring.     COMPARATIVE STUDY ON SINGLE- AND DOUBLE-PASS CONFIGURATIONS FOR SERIAL DUAL-STAGE HIGH CONCENTRATION EDFA

    A comparative study on a single- and double-pass configurations for Erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) are demonstrated using a gain media of high concentration Silica-based erbium doped fiber (EDF). The amplifier has two stages comprising a 1.5 m and 9 m long EDF optimized for C-band and L-band operations respectively, in a single-pass and double-pass configuration s. The CFBG is used at the end of EDF stage to allow a double propagation of signal and thus increases the attainable gain in both C- and L-band spectra. At an input signal power of -30 dBm, a flat gain of 22 dB is achieved with a gain variation of ±3 dB within a wide wavelength range from 1530 to 1600nm (C- and L-band) in double-pass configurations. The corresponding noise figure varies from 4 to 8 dB within this wavelength region. The flat gains for single-pass configuration only amplify within 1555 nm to 1600 nm (L-band)

    Supervision outcomes as predictor to the supervisory relationship and supervision contextual factors: Study on the internship trainee counsellors

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the supervisory relationship and contextual supervision factors on the supervision outcomes among trainee counsellors. Respondents were 120 trainee counsellors and 18 supervisors from four public universities in Malaysia. Eight instruments were used in measuring the variables. The Supervisory Working Alliance Trainee Inventory (SWAI-T) measures the supervisory working alliance among trainee counsellors and the Role Conflict Role Ambiguity Inventory (RCRAI) measures the role conflict among trainee counsellors. The Supervision Interaction Questionnaire – Supervisee and Supervisor Inventory (SIQ-S) measures the interaction between trainee counsellors and supervisor and the Counsellor Rating Form – Short (CRF-S) measures the characteristics of the supervisors in supervision. The Selective Theory Sorter (STS) inventory was used to measure the counselling orientations among the trainee counsellors and supervisors whereas the Multicultural Counselling Knowledge and Awareness Scale (MCKAS) measures the knowledge and awareness toward multicultural counselling among trainee counsellors. The Supervision Outcomes Survey (SOS) and Counsellor Performance Inventory (CPI) were used to measure the satisfaction and performance among trainee counsellors. Results have revealed that there was a significant correlation between the supervisory relationship (supervisees’ working alliance, supervisees’ role conflict, supervision interaction, supervisors’ attributes) and supervision outcomes, r (118) = .53; p < .05. Other factors that have contributed to the significant correlations of supervision outcomes were supervisees’ working alliance, supervisees’ role conflict, and supervisors’ attributes, r (120) =.55; p < .05; r (120) = .21; p < .05; and r (116) =.50; p < .05 respectively. However, the result has shown that there was no significant correlation between the supervision contextual factors (supervisees’ and supervisors’ counselling orientation and supervisees’ cultural knowledge and awareness) and supervision outcomes. Multiple Regression analyses reported that the supervisory relationship had an influence on the supervision outcomes, R2 = .28, F (1,105) = 40.2, p < .05. Meanwhile, the supervision contextual factors had no influence on the supervision outcomes. Based on the research findings, the model signified that the supervision process could bring out changes in the supervisees. Practically, the supervisees’ working alliance was a significant factor that has influenced the supervisees’ development. Therefore, the academic supervisor should consider the supervisees’ role conflict, supervision interaction, and supervisors’ attributes during supervision. It is recommended that the differences between supervision interaction of the supervisors and the supervisees to be examined in the future research
