An Efficient Novel Acetate Anion Receptor based on Isatin

    Get PDF
An anion recognition receptor, a kind of thiourea derivative, was designed and synthesized by combining indoline-2,3-dione and 1,3-diaminothiourea. The anion recognition can be easily monitored by anion complexation induced changes in UV-vis absorption spectra. In particular, the binding ratio between the receptor and fluoride is 1:2 but in the case of dihydrogenphosphate and acetate are 1:1. Moreover, the affinity constants revealed that the receptor can recognize acetate well. Finally, H-1 NMR experiments were carried out to explore the nature of interaction between this new receptor and acetate

An acetate sensor based on azo in aqueous media

A colorimetric sensor 1,N,N'-di-(2-hydroxy-5-(phenldiazenyl)benzaldehyde)-1,3-diiminothiourea for acetate in DMSO and 9/1 DMSO/H(2)O (v/v) mixtures was designed and synthesized. The binding ability evaluated by UV-vis experiment reveals that sensor 1 can selectively recognize acetate. In addition, the color changes induced by anions can provide a way of detection by 'naked-eye'. The further insights to the nature of interactions between the sensor 1 and AcO(-) were investigated by (1)H NMR titration experiments in 9/1 DMSO-d(6)/H(2)O (v/v). (c) 2010 Elsevier B.V. Multiphoton Interference in Quantum Fourier Transform Circuits and Applications to Quantum Metrology

© 2017 American Physical Society. Quantum Fourier transforms (QFTs) have gained increased attention with the rise of quantum walks, boson sampling, and quantum metrology. Here, we present and demonstrate a general technique that simplifies the construction of QFT interferometers using both path and polarization modes. On that basis, we first observe the generalized Hong-Ou-Mandel effect with up to four photons. Furthermore, we directly exploit number-path entanglement generated in these QFT interferometers and demonstrate optical phase supersensitivities deterministically

Mass windborne migrations extend the range of the migratory locust in East China

This is the final version. Available on open access from Wiley via the DOI in this recordMigratory insect pests pose a substantial challenge to global food security. These issues are particularly acute when pest incursions occur considerably beyond the expected range, through natural migration or human-aided transport, because the lack of species-specific control strategies and a potential absence of species-specific natural enemies in the newly-invaded area may lead to rapid establishment of a new pest. One such threat is posed by the Oriental migratory locust Locusta migratoria manilensis in China, which, historically, has been restricted to eastern China from the Bohai Gulf southwards, and now threatens to expand its range into the agriculturally important region of northeast China. We analyzed data from a recent outbreak of migratory locusts in Heilongjiang Province (extreme northeast China), > 700 km north of its current known range, and identified the source region, timing of arrival and probable migratory routes of this incursion. We further show that warming temperatures in this region will likely allow subsequent invasions to establish permanent populations in northeast China, and thus authorities in this important crop-producing region of East Asia should be vigilant to the threat posed by this species.China Agriculture Research SystemChinese Academy of SciencesNational Natural Science Foundation of ChinaNatural Science Foundation of Jiangsu ProvinceScience and Technology Facilities Council (STFC

Pleomorphic adenoma of the vulva, clinical reminder of a rare occurrence

    Get PDF
Pleomorphic adenoma, also known as mixed tumor, is a benign tumor which typically presents as a painless and persistent mass. The majority of pleomorphic adenomas involve the salivary glands, most commonly the parotid gland. Other sites include breast and skin. It is a rare tumor in the vulva. In this article we are reporting a case of pleomorphic adenoma of labia with characteristic pathologic and clinical findings, as reminder of a common benign neoplasm occurring with rare locality

Mimetic-enzyme fluorescence immunoassay using a thermal phase separating polymer

    Get PDF
Poly-N-isopropylacrylamide (PNIP), a water-soluble, thermally precipitated synthetic polymer, has been conjugated together with a monoclonal antibody and utilized as a novel separation method for an immunoassay. PNIP precipitates out of water above a critical temperature of 31 degrees C, enabling a polymer-bound immune complex to be separated from the solution. These characteristics were used to develop a novel polymer-mimetic enzyme immunoassay method for determination of alpha-1-fetoprotein (AFP) with hemin as a labeling reagent to catalyze the reaction of p-hydroxyphenyl acetic acid (HPA) and hydrogen peroxide in alkaline medium. After a one-step competitive immunoreaction, the polymer-antibody-antigen-hemin conjugate moiety was determined by coupling the fluorogenic reaction of HPA and hydrogen peroxide, The calibration graph for AFP was linear over the range of 0-380 ng cm(-3) with a detection limit of 1.0 ng cm(-3). This method combines some advantages of both homogeneous and heterogeneous immunoassays, and has been applied to determine AFP in human blood serum with satisfactory results

Prevalence and risk factors for mesh erosion after laparoscopic-assisted sacrocolpopexy

The purpose of this study is to identify risk factors for mesh erosion in women undergoing minimally invasive sacrocolpopexy (MISC). We hypothesize that erosion is higher in subjects undergoing concomitant hysterectomy. This is a retrospective cohort study of women who underwent MISC between November 2004 and January 2009. Demographics, operative techniques, and outcomes were abstracted from medical records. Multivariable regression identified odds of erosion. Of 188 MISC procedures 19(10%) had erosions. Erosion was higher in those with total vaginal hysterectomy (TVH) compared to both post-hysterectomy (23% vs. 5%, p = 0.003) and supracervical hysterectomy (SCH) (23% vs. 5%, p = 0.109) groups. In multivariable regression, the odds of erosion for TVH was 5.67 (95% CI: 1.88–17.10) compared to post-hysterectomy. Smoking, the use of collagen-coated mesh, transvaginal dissection, and mesh attachment transvaginally were no longer significant in the multivariable regression model. Based on this study, surgeons should consider supracervical hysterectomy over total vaginal hysterectomy as the procedure of choice in association with MISC unless removal of the cervix is otherwise indicated
