Time-to-birth prediction models and the influence of expert opinions
Preterm birth is the leading cause of death among children under five years old. The pathophysiology and etiology of preterm labor are not yet fully understood. This causes a large number of unnecessary hospitalizations due to high--sensitivity clinical policies, which has a significant psychological and economic impact. In this study, we present a predictive model, based on a new dataset containing information of 1,243 admissions, that predicts whether a patient will give birth within a given time after admission. Such a model could provide support in the clinical decision-making process. Predictions for birth within 48 h or 7 days after admission yield an Area Under the Curve of the Receiver Operating Characteristic (AUC) of 0.72 for both tasks. Furthermore, we show that by incorporating predictions made by experts at admission, which introduces a potential bias, the prediction effectiveness increases to an AUC score of 0.83 and 0.81 for these respective tasks
Evaluation of vineyard growth under four irrigation regimes using vegetation and soil on-the-go sensors
Precision agriculture is a useful tool to assess plant growth and development in vineyards. The present
study focused on spatial and temporal analysis of vegetation growth variability, in four irrigation treatments with
four replicates. The research was carried out in a vineyard located in the southwest of Spain during the 2012
and 2013 growing seasons. Two multispectral sensors mounted on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) were used in
the different growing seasons/stages in order to calculate the vineyard normalized difference vegetation index
(NDVI). Soil apparent electrical conductivity (ECa) was also measured up to 0.8m soil depth using an on-the-go
geophysical sensor. All measured data were analysed by means of principal component analysis (PCA). The
spatial and temporal NDVI and ECa variations showed relevant differences between irrigation treatments and
climatological conditions
Multimorbidity Patterns in Elderly Primary Health Care Patients in a South Mediterranean European Region: A Cluster Analysis.

Available from Public Library of Science via the DOI in this record.OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to identify clusters of diagnoses in elderly patients with multimorbidity, attended in primary care. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. SETTING: 251 primary care centres in Catalonia, Spain. PARTICIPANTS: Individuals older than 64 years registered with participating practices. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Multimorbidity, defined as the coexistence of 2 or more ICD-10 disease categories in the electronic health record. Using hierarchical cluster analysis, multimorbidity clusters were identified by sex and age group (65-79 and ≥80 years). RESULTS: 322,328 patients with multimorbidity were included in the analysis (mean age, 75.4 years [Standard deviation, SD: 7.4], 57.4% women; mean of 7.9 diagnoses [SD: 3.9]). For both men and women, the first cluster in both age groups included the same two diagnoses: Hypertensive diseases and Metabolic disorders. The second cluster contained three diagnoses of the musculoskeletal system in the 65- to 79-year-old group, and five diseases coincided in the ≥80 age group: varicose veins of the lower limbs, senile cataract, dorsalgia, functional intestinal disorders and shoulder lesions. The greatest overlap (54.5%) between the three most common diagnoses was observed in women aged 65-79 years. CONCLUSION: This cluster analysis of elderly primary care patients with multimorbidity, revealed a single cluster of circulatory-metabolic diseases that were the most prevalent in both age groups and sex, and a cluster of second-most prevalent diagnoses that included musculoskeletal diseases. Clusters unknown to date have been identified. Objective: To reflect the situation of the websites of the hospital libraries in Spain in 2003.
Material and methods: The websites of the hospital libraries have been located through C-17 directory, various hospital directories and searching Google, Altavista and Alltheweb. It has been applied the questionnaire of evaluation of websites with pondered punctuation by Lluís Codina. Visibility indicators have been obtained as well as accessibility according TAW. Results: From the C-17 catalogue have been retrieved 176 hospital libraries, of which 13 have a website; we added to these other 19 websites found through other directories and search engines. Of those 32 websites, 2 were not active; the remaining 30 were analyzed. Five of them passed the Codina's test of level I. In the TAW priority level 1, the problems detected automatically oscillated between 0 and 77.
Conclusions: The results show the low number of hospital libraries with websites on the internet. The websites quality should be improved following the recommendations of the checkup lists to evaluate digital resources on the internet. The scarce visibility of these webs, hinders greatly its localization. On the other hand, the low accessibility rate of these webs blocks their visualization to handicapped people
Smooth tensionful higher-codimensional brane worlds with bulk and brane form fields
Completely regular tensionful codimension-n brane world solutions are
discussed, where the core of the brane is chosen to be a thin codimension-(n-1)
shell in an infinite volume flat bulk, and an Einstein-Hilbert term localized
on the brane is included (Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati models). In order to support
such localized sources we enrich the vacuum structure of the brane by the
inclusion of localized form fields. We find that phenomenological constraints
on the size of the internal core seem to impose an upper bound to the brane
