. In this article we describe methods for improving the RWTH German speech recognizer used within the VERBMOBIL project. In particular, we present acceleration methods for the search based on both within-word and across-word phoneme models. We also study incremental methods to reduce the response time of the online speech recognizer. Finally, we present experimental off-line results for the three VERBMOBIL scenarios. We report on word error rates and real-time factors for both speaker independent and speaker dependent recognition. 1 Introduction The goal of the VERBMOBIL project is to develop a speech-to-speech translation system that performs close to real-time. In this system, speech recognition is followed by subsequent VERBMOBIL modules (like syntactic analysis and translation) which depend on the recognition result. Therefore, in this application it is particularly important to keep the recognition time as short as possible. There are VERBMOBIL modules which are capable to work ..

An Integrative Design Framework for New Service Development

Service innovation is focused on customer value creation. At its core, customer-centric service innovation in an increasingly digital world is technology-enabled, human-centered, and process-oriented. This requires a cross-disciplinary, holistic approach to new service design and development (NSD). This paper proposes a new service strategy-aligned integrative design framework for NSD. It correlates the underlying theories and principles of disparate but interrelated aspects of service design thinking: service strategy, concept, design, experience and architecture into a coherent framework for NSD, consistent with the service brand value. Application of the framework to NSD is envisioned to be iterative and holistic, accentuated on continuous organizational and customer learning. The preliminary framework's efficacy is illustrated using a simplified telecom case example. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014

Social Value: A Service Science Perspective

    No full text
This chapter provides an analysis of the concept of social value from a service science perspective. Social value is a concept of great interest to governments, foundations, nonprofits, and corporate social responsibility organizations and a central focus of many policymakers. Service science is an emerging transdiscipline for the (1) study of evolving service system entities and value co-creation phenomena and (2) pedagogy for the education of twenty-first-century T-shaped service innovators from all disciplines, sectors, and cultures who may become social value generators through cross functional engagements. A bridging framework for social value (as calculated by social entities) and individual value (as calculated by individual entities) is presented along with some future research directions

Smart service lifecycle management: A framework and use case

    No full text
This paper focuses on the growing importance of offering Smart Services by manufacturing companies, which are enabled through the increasing amount of data available following Industry 4.0 implementation. Gradually, product-oriented industries are turning into service-oriented industries, where customers are much more involved in developing and delivering services than in developing and delivering products. The ability to offer Smart Services creates a competitive advantage for a company, as it can provide individually configured value-added services to the customer. However, expert interviews and work with industrial use cases show that the knowledge how to realize such Smart Services is still rudimental, in spite of high expectations. Therefore, a Smart Service Lifecycle Management is introduced, formalizing the support needs of the industry and the phases of the lifecycle in a framework, covering business, service and network elements. Parts of this framework has been successfully applied to develop a Monitoring Service for an industrial use case in video surveillance
