It is quite comon in brazilian rubber plantations the occorence of boron deficiency symptoms on the leaves associated with N, P, K, and Mg fertilizer programs. In a greenhouse experiment the daily aplication of five levels of boron (0.5; 1.0; 1.5; 2.0 and 2.5 ppm) to the substract induced toxicity symptoms to the leaves of the young rubber trees. Tips and marginal necrosis of the leaves occured when the boron concentration in the subtract was between 1.0 and 2.5 ppm of boron. Recently in an experiment carried out in order to obtain the macro and Zn, Mn deficiencies on grafted plants with clone RRIM 600, the boron was withdraw from the nutrient solutions in order prevent toxic effects in the plants. After six months symptoms appeared which consisted of a halt on growth; the terminal buds die and an exudation of latex started. After the supply of 0.1 ppm of boron to the nutrient solutions the plants began to growth again and numerous branches started to appear in the plants.São relatadas experiências com o micronutriente boro, seus sintomas de toxicidade, deficiência e correção.

Young rubber trees were cultivated in Bolle-Jones nutrient solutions modified for iron supply. A separate solution of aluminum was prepared by dissolving a thin aluminum foil with HCl 1N. From these stock solution the following solutions were prepared: 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25ppm of aluminum. The plants remained for 24 hours in nutrient solution and for another 24 hours in the aluminum solutions. The procedure was carried out during 95 days. After 95 days the plants were harvested and divided into top whorls, remaining whorls, stem and roots. The material was analysed for N, P and K by routine methods. The authors concluded that the rubber plant is tolerant to concentration up to 15ppm of aluminum in the substract. Higher levels induce malnutrition of N, P and K in plants.

In Brazil mostly all rubber tree, under natural and cultivated conditions occurs on soil containing high levels of toxic aluminum. A study on the rubber tree behavior in relation to aluminum in necessary and urgent. In order to: - Study the effects of five levels of aluminum in the substract on the growth of young rubber trees; - Describe visual symptoms of the aluminum toxicity on the leaves; - Evaluate the tolerance of rubber plant to aluminum; Young rubber plants were cultivated in BOLLE-JONES (1957) nutrient solution, modified for iron supply. A separate solution of aluminum was prepared by dissolving a thin aluminum foil with HCl 1N. From these stock solution the following solutions were prepared: none, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25ppm of aluminum. The plants remained for 24 hours in nutrient solutions and another 24 hours in the aluminum solutions. These procedure was carried out during 95 days. Both solutions - nutrient and aluminum -were replaced every week. After 95 days, the plants were harvested and divided into top whorl, 2nd and 3rd whorls, stem and roots. The material was dried and analysed for aluminum by routine methods in the laboratory. The authors concluded: - The growth of the rubber plants was affected when the concentration of aluminum was 15ppm or more in the solution. - Clear cut symptoms of the aluminum toxicity was noted in the roots. The root tip and lateral roots became thockened and turned brown. - The rubber plant grows well in presence of less thon 15ppm of aluminum.

Volume modulus inflection point inflation and the gravitino mass problem

Several models of inflection point inflation with the volume modulus as the inflaton are investigated. Non-perturbative superpotentials containing two gaugino condensation terms or one such term with threshold corrections are considered. It is shown that the gravitino mass may be much smaller than the Hubble scale during inflation if at least one of the non-perturbative terms has a positive exponent. Higher order corrections to the Kahler potential have to be taken into account in such models. Those corrections are used to stabilize the potential in the axion direction in the vicinity of the inflection point. Models with only negative exponents require uplifting and in consequence have the supersymmetry breaking scale higher than the inflation scale. Fine-tuning of parameters and initial conditions is analyzed in some detail for both types of models. It is found that fine-tuning of parameters in models with heavy gravitino is much stronger than in models with light gravitino. It is shown that recently proposed time dependent potentials can provide a solution to the problem of the initial conditions only in models with heavy gravitino. Such potentials can not be used to relax fine tuning of parameters in any model because this would lead to values of the spectral index well outside the experimental bounds.Comment: 27 pages, 9 figures, comments and references added, version to be publishe

Warm inflationary universe model in a tachyon field theory is studied in the weak dissipative regime. We develop our model for an exponential potential and the dissipation parameter Γ=Γ0\Gamma=\Gamma_0=constant. We describe scalar and tensor perturbations for this scenario.Comment: 9 pages, accepted by European Physical Journal

Naturally Derived Heme-Oxygenase 1 Inducers and Their Therapeutic Application to Immune-Mediated Diseases

    Get PDF
Indexación: Scopus.Heme oxygenase (HO) is the primary antioxidant enzyme involved in heme group degradation. A variety of stimuli triggers the expression of the inducible HO-1 isoform, which is modulated by its substrate and cellular stressors. A major anti-inflammatory role has been assigned to the HO-1 activity. Therefore, in recent years HO-1 induction has been employed as an approach to treating several disorders displaying some immune alterations components, such as exacerbated inflammation or self-reactivity. Many natural compounds have shown to be effective inductors of HO-1 without cytotoxic effects; among them, most are chemicals present in plants used as food, flavoring, and medicine. Here we discuss some naturally derived compounds involved in HO-1 induction, their impact in the immune response modulation, and the beneficial effect in diverse autoimmune disorders. We conclude that the use of some compounds from natural sources able to induce HO-1 is an attractive lifestyle toward promoting human health. This review opens a new outlook on the investigation of naturally derived HO-1 inducers, mainly concerning autoimmunity. © Copyright © 2020 Funes, Rios, Fernández-Fierro, Covián, Bueno, Riedel, Mackern-Oberti and Kalergis.https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fimmu.2020.01467/ful

Inflation with racetrack superpotential and matter field

Several models of inflation with the racetrack superpotential for the volume modulus coupled to a matter field are investigated. In particular, it is shown that two classes of racetrack inflation models, saddle point and inflection point ones, can be constructed in a fully supersymmetric framework with the matter field F-term as a source of supersymmetry breaking and uplifting. Two models of F-term supersymmetry breaking are considered: the Polonyi model and the quantum corrected O'Raifeartaigh model. In the former case, both classes of racetrack inflation models differ significantly from the corresponding models with non-supersymmetric uplifting. The main difference is a quite strong dominance of the inflaton by the matter field. In addition, fine-tuning of the parameters is relaxed as compared to the original racetrack models. In the case of the racetrack inflation models coupled to the O'Raifeartaigh model, the matter field is approximately decoupled from the inflationary dynamics. In all of the above models the gravitino mass is larger than the Hubble scale during inflation. The possibility of having the gravitino much lighter than the Hubble scale is also investigated. It is very hard to construct models with light gravitino in which the volume modulus dominates inflation. On the other hand, models in which the inflationary dynamics is dominated by the matter field are relatively simple and seem to be more natural.Comment: 40 pages, 13 figures, references added, typos corrected, version to be publishe

Solar Intranetwork Magnetic Elements: bipolar flux appearance

The current study aims to quantify characteristic features of bipolar flux appearance of solar intranetwork (IN) magnetic elements. To attack such a problem, we use the Narrow-band Filter Imager (NFI) magnetograms from the Solar Optical Telescope (SOT) on board \emph{Hinode}; these data are from quiet and an enhanced network areas. Cluster emergence of mixed polarities and IN ephemeral regions (ERs) are the most conspicuous forms of bipolar flux appearance within the network. Each of the clusters is characterized by a few well-developed ERs that are partially or fully co-aligned in magnetic axis orientation. On average, the sampled IN ERs have total maximum unsigned flux of several 10^{17} Mx, separation of 3-4 arcsec, and a lifetime of 10-15 minutes. The smallest IN ERs have a maximum unsigned flux of several 10^{16} Mx, separations less than 1 arcsec, and lifetimes as short as 5 minutes. Most IN ERs exhibit a rotation of their magnetic axis of more than 10 degrees during flux emergence. Peculiar flux appearance, e.g., bipole shrinkage followed by growth or the reverse, is not unusual. A few examples show repeated shrinkage-growth or growth-shrinkage, like magnetic floats in the dynamic photosphere. The observed bipolar behavior seems to carry rich information on magneto-convection in the sub-photospheric layer.Comment: 26 pages, 14 figure

Abstract OBJECTIVE: We assessed the individual association of sedentary behaviors with the risk of overweight and excess body fat (overfat) in adolescents. METHODS: A representative sample (1960 subjects, 1012 males, age 13-18.5 y) of Spanish adolescents was studied within the framework of the Alimentación y Valoración del Estado Nutricional de los Adolescentes (AVENA) study. Television (TV) watching, videogame and computer usage, doing homework, and the way students got to school, physical activity, and socioeconomic status were analyzed. Anthropometrics were measured to describe overweight (International Obesity Task Force cutoffs for body mass index) and overfat (body fat percentage >85th percentile). RESULTS: When all subjects were considered as an entire group, the overweight risk increased by 15.8% (P < 0.05) per increasing hour of TV watching. The overweight risks decreased by 32.5% in females, 22% per increasing year of age, and 12.5% by increasing socioeconomic status by 1 U (all Ps < 0.05). The obesity risks decreased with age by 17.8% per year in males and 27.1% in females (both Ps < 0.05). The overfat risks increased by 26.8% and 9.4% per increasing hour of TV and weekend videogame usage, respectively (both Ps < 0.05). In males, the overfat risk increased by 21.5% per increasing hour in weekend videogame usage (P < 0.05). Each hour of TV use increased the overfat risks by 22% in males and 28.3% in females (both Ps < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Time spent watching TV increased the risk of overweight and obesity in Spanish adolescents, but the effect was influenced by age, sex, and socioeconomic status. Moreover, an excess of body fat was more directly explained by the time spent watching TV and playing videogames during the weekend.Peer Reviewe
