A Next-to-Leading-Order Study of Dihadron Production
The production of pairs of hadrons in hadronic collisions is studied using a
next-to-leading-order Monte Carlo program based on the phase space slicing
technique. Up-to-date fragmentation functions based on fits to LEP data are
employed, together with several versions of current parton distribution
functions. Good agreement is found with data for the dihadron mass
distribution. A comparison is also made with data for the dihadron angular
distribution. The scale dependence of the predictions and the dependence on the
choices made for the fragmentation and parton distribution functions are also
presented. The good agreement between theory and experiment is contrasted to
the case for single production where significant deviations between

Relationship between pneumonitis induced by immune checkpoint inhibitors and the underlying parenchymal status: a retrospective study.
In patients with primary or secondary lung tumour treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors, immune-related pneumonitis is a rare adverse event but may evolve to respiratory failure. Prompt management is required and usually consists of treatment interruption and immunosuppressive drug administration. The aim of this study was to evaluate relationships between immune-related pneumonitis and pre-existing parenchymal status, especially tumour location and history of chest radiotherapy. Computed tomography (CT) scans of patients with immune-related pneumonitis were retrospectively reviewed. Pattern, distribution and extent of pneumonitis were assessed in six lung regions. In patients who received radiotherapy, the extent of pneumonitis was evaluated according to the radiation field. Among 253 patients treated with immunotherapy, 15 cases of immune-related pneumonitis were identified. 10 had previous or concomitant chest radiotherapy in addition to immunotherapy. At CT scan, 29 (33%) out of 88 regions encompassed the primary tumour (n=4), a lung metastasis (n=4) and/or radiation fields (n=21). A significantly higher prevalence of parenchymal involvement by immune-related pneumonitis occurred within areas of primary or metastatic malignancy and/or radiation field (97%) as compared to other areas (3%, p=0.009). Lung regions affected by the primary tumour, metastasis or radiotherapy had a higher probability of immune-related pneumonitis than others (OR 10.8, p=0.024). An organising pneumonia (OP) pattern was more frequent after radiotherapy (70% versus 0%, p=0.024), whereas nonspecific interstitial pneumonia features were more commonly seen in radiotherapy-naive patients (100% versus 10%, p=0.002). In patients with primary or secondary lung tumour treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors, immune-related pneumonitis is preferentially located within lung areas involved by tumour and/or radiation fields
Abscopal effect in a patient with malignant pleural mesothelioma treated with palliative radiotherapy and pembrolizumab.
The abscopal effect describes the ability of locally administered radiotherapy to induce systemic antitumor effects. Although mentioned for the first time in the 1950s, records of abscopal effects, considered to be immune-mediated, are scarce with radiotherapy alone. However, with the continued development and use of immunotherapy, reports on the abscopal effect have become increasingly frequent during the last decade. Here, we report a patient with advanced malignant pleural mesothelioma who had progressive disease while on the anti-PDL1 inhibitor pembrolizumab and showed an abscopal response after palliative radiotherapy
Virtual photon fragmentation functions
We introduce operator definitions for virtual photon fragmentation functions,
which are needed for reliable calculations of Drell-Yan transverse momentum
() distributions when is much larger than the invariant mass . We
derive the evolution equations for these fragmentation functions. We calculate
the leading order evolution kernels for partons to fragment into a unpolarized
as well as a polarized virtual photon. We find that fragmentation functions to
a longitudinally polarized virtual photon are most important at small , and
the fragmentation functions to a transversely polarized virtual photon dominate
the large region. We discuss the implications of this finding to the
J/ mesons' polarization at large transverse momentum.Comment: Latex, 19 pages including 6 figures. An error in the first version

Vitality, Language Use, and Life Satisfaction : A Study of Bilingual Hungarian Adolescents Living in Romania
This study examined the relationship between objective and subjective vitality, in-group language use, and life satisfaction among two groups of bilingual Hungarians adolescents living in Romania: a low objective vitality group from Cluj-Napoca/Kolozsvar, where Hungarians are the demographic minority, and a high objective vitality group from Sfantu Gheorghe/Sepsiszentgyorgy, where Hungarians are the demographic majority. Consistent with predictions, the high objective vitality group reported higher subjective Hungarian vitality, lower subjective Romanian vitality, more frequent use of the Hungarian language, and higher life satisfaction, compared with the low objective vitality group. The effects of objective vitality on language use were partially mediated by subjective Romanian (but not Hungarian) vitality. Conversely, the effects of objective vitality on life satisfaction were fully mediated by subjective Hungarian (but not Romanian) vitality.Peer reviewe
Investigating the high energy QCD approaches for prompt photon production at the LHC
We investigate the rapidity and transverse momentum distributions of the
prompt photon production at the CERN LHC energies considering the current
perturbative QCD approaches for this scattering process. Namely, we compare the
predictions from the usual NLO pQCD calculations to the the color dipole
formalism, using distinct dipole cross sections. Special attention is paid to
parton saturation models at high energies, which are expected to be important

Colour-Octet Effects in Radiative Decays
We investigate the effects of colour-octet contributions to the radiative
decay within the Bodwin, Braaten and Lepage NRQCD factorization
framework. Photons coming both from the coupling to hard processes (`direct')
and by collinear emission from light quarks (`fragmentation') are consistently
included at next-to-leading order (NLO) in . An estimate for the
non-perturbative matrix elements which enter in the final result is then
obtained. By comparing the NRQCD prediction at NLO for total decay rates with
the experimental data, it is found that the non-perturbative parameters must be
smaller than expected from the na\"\i ve scaling rules of NRQCD. Nevertheless,
colour-octet contributions to the shape of the photon spectrum turn out to be

Factorization and soft-gluon divergences in isolated-photon cross sections
We study the production of isolated photons in annihilation and give
the proof of the all-order factorization of the collinear singularities. These
singularities are absorbed in the standard fragmentation functions of partons
into a photon, while the effects of the isolation are consistently included in
the short-distance cross section. We compute this cross section at order \as
and show that it contains large double logarithms of the isolation parameters.
We explain the physical origin of these logarithms and discuss the possibility

Kinematic Effects in Radiative Quarkonia Decays
Non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) predicts colour octet contributions to be
significant not only in many production processes of heavy quarkonia but also
in their radiative decays. We investigate the photon energy distributions in
these processes in the endpoint region. There the velocity expansion of NRQCD
breaks down which requires a resummation of an infinite class of colour octet
operators to so-called shape functions. We model these non-perturbative
functions by the emission of a soft gluon cluster in the initial state. We
found that the spectrum in the endpoint region is poorly understood if the
values for the colour octet matrix elements are taken as large as indicated
from NRQCD scaling rules. Therefore the endpoint region should not be taken
into account for a fit of the strong coupling constant at the scale of the

Accessing transversity with interference fragmentation functions
We discuss in detail the option to access the transversity distribution
function by utilizing the analyzing power of interference
fragmentation functions in two-pion production inside the same current jet. The
transverse polarization of the fragmenting quark is related to the transverse
component of the relative momentum of the hadron pair via a new azimuthal
angle. As a specific example, we spell out thoroughly the way to extract
from a measured single spin asymmetry in two-pion inclusive
lepton-nucleon scattering. To estimate the sizes of observable effects we
employ a spectator model for the fragmentation functions. The resulting
asymmetry of our example is discussed as arising in different scenarios for the
