Authorization and access control of application data in Workflow systems
Workflow Management Systems (WfMSs) are used to support the modeling and coordinated execution of business processes within an organization or across organizational boundaries. Although some research efforts have addressed requirements for authorization and access control for workflow systems, little attention has been paid to the requirements as they apply to application data accessed or managed by WfMSs. In this paper, we discuss key access control requirements for application data in workflow applications using examples from the healthcare domain, introduce a classification of application data used in workflow systems by analyzing their sources, and then propose a comprehensive data authorization and access control mechanism for WfMSs. This involves four aspects: role, task, process instance-based user group, and data content. For implementation, a predicate-based access control method is used. We believe that the proposed model is applicable to workflow applications and WfMSs with diverse access control requirements
Approximations of thermoelastic and viscoelastic control systems
Well-posed models and computational algorithms are developed and analyzed for control of a class of partial differential equations that describe the motions of thermo-viscoelastic structures. An abstract (state space) framework and a general well-posedness result are presented that can be applied to a large class of thermo-elastic and thermo-viscoelastic models. This state space framework is used in the development of a computational scheme to be used in the solution of a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) control problem. A detailed convergence proof is provided for the viscoelastic model and several numerical results are presented to illustrate the theory and to analyze problems for which the theory is incomplete

Pressure dependence of magnetic ordering temperature for decamethylferrocenium tetracyanoethenide
Journal ArticleIt has been demonstrated that the linear-chain charge-transfer salt, decamethylferrocenium tetracyanoethanide (DMeFc) (TCNE), is a ferromagnet with a transition temperature of -4.8 K. This low-temperature 3D ordering has been attributed to a strong intrachain and a weak interchain interaction. To study these interactions, we have determined the Tc up to 20 kbar by measuring the ac susceptibility (X) at low frequency. Our results show that the Tc increases with pressure at a rate of -0.22 K/kbar, while the (X) peak indicative of the ferromagnetic transition continues to decrease rapidly. A small peak was also detected above the main transition at pressures above 3 kbar. This new peak persists even after the pressure is removed. The result from dc magnetization suggests that this corresponds to a metamagnetic state. For the first time, we have observed pressure-induced phase-transition in this material

Consider the ensemble of Real Symmetric Toeplitz Matrices, each entry iidrv
from a fixed probability distribution p of mean 0, variance 1, and finite
higher moments. The limiting spectral measure (the density of normalized
eigenvalues) converges weakly to a new universal distribution with unbounded
support, independent of p. This distribution's moments are almost those of the
Gaussian's; the deficit may be interpreted in terms of Diophantine
obstructions. With a little more work, we obtain almost sure convergence. An
investigation of spacings between adjacent normalized eigenvalues looks

A Multi-Moded RF Delay Line Distribution System for the Next Linear Collider
The Delay Line Distribution System (DLDS) is an alternative to conventional
pulse compression, which enhances the peak power of rf sources while matching
the long pulse of those sources to the shorter filling time of accelerator
structures. We present an implementation of this scheme that combines pairs of
parallel delay lines of the system into single lines. The power of several
sources is combined into a single waveguide delay line using a multi-mode
launcher. The output mode of the launcher is determined by the phase coding of
the input signals. The combined power is extracted from the delay line using
mode-selective extractors, each of which extracts a single mode. Hence, the
phase coding of the sources controls the output port of the combined power. The
power is then fed to the local accelerator structures. We present a detailed
design of such a system, including several implementation methods for the
launchers, extractors, and ancillary high power rf components. The system is
designed so that it can handle the 600 MW peak power required by the NLC design
while maintaining high efficiency.Comment: 25 pages, 11 figure

Correlated Quantum Transport of Density Wave Electrons
Recently observed Aharonov-Bohm quantum interference of period h/2e in charge
density wave rings strongly suggest that correlated density wave electron
transport is a cooperative quantum phenomenon. The picture discussed here
posits that quantum solitons nucleate and transport current above a Coulomb
blockade threshold field. We propose a field-dependent tunneling matrix element
and use the Schrodinger equation, viewed as an emergent classical equation as
in Feynman's treatment of Josephson tunneling, to compute the evolving
macrostate amplitudes, finding excellent quantitative agreement with voltage
oscillations and current-voltage characteristics in NbSe3. A proposed phase
diagram shows the conditions favoring soliton nucleation versus classical
