    Investigation of the Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production of Semiconductor Nanocrystal-Based Hydrogels

    Destabilization of a ligand-stabilized semiconductor nanocrystal solution with an oxidizing agent can lead to a macroscopic highly porous self-supporting nanocrystal network entitled hydrogel, with good accessibility to the surface. The previously reported charge carrier delocalization beyond a single nanocrystal building block in such gels can extend the charge carrier mobility and make a photocatalytic reaction more probable. The synthesis of ligand-stabilized nanocrystals with specific physicochemical properties is possible, thanks to the advances in colloid chemistry made in the last decades. Combining the properties of these nanocrystals with the advantages of nanocrystal-based hydrogels will lead to novel materials with optimized photocatalytic properties. This work demonstrates that CdSe quantum dots, CdS nanorods, and CdSe/CdS dot-in-rod-shaped nanorods as nanocrystal-based hydrogels can exhibit a much higher hydrogen production rate compared to their ligand-stabilized nanocrystal solutions. The gel synthesis through controlled destabilization by ligand oxidation preserves the high surface-to-volume ratio, ensures the accessible surface area even in hole-trapping solutions and facilitates photocatalytic hydrogen production without a co-catalyst. Especially with such self-supporting networks of nanocrystals, the problem of colloidal (in)stability in photocatalysis is circumvented. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and photoelectrochemical measurements reveal the advantageous properties of the 3D networks for application in photocatalytic hydrogen production

    Cathepsins B, L and cystatin C in cyst fluid of ovarian tumors

    Contains fulltext : 88032.pdf (publisher's version ) (Closed access)INTRODUCTION: In cancer, an extracellular and membrane bound localization of cathepsins contribute to the invasion of tumor cells at the basement membrane. METHODS: This is the first study that explored levels of cathepsins B (CatB), L (CatL) and their inhibitor cystatin C (CysC) in the cystic fluid (CF) of ovarian tumors (n = 110). RESULTS: CF contained considerable amounts of CatB, CatL and CysC. Remarkable differences in CatB and CatL and CysC CF levels were found between different histopathological tumor subtypes. Levels of CatB and CysC were significantly higher in CF of malignant serous tumors compared to those found in benign serous tumors (p = 0.010 and p = 0.001 respectively), whereas levels of CatL were significantly higher in CF of malignant mucinous tumors compared to those found in benign mucinous tumors (p = 0.035). CatB and CysC showed a strong correlation in the group of patients with malignant serous tumors (p < 0.001; R = 0.921) suggesting that the increase in CatB might be balanced by a corresponding increase in CysC. CONCLUSION: Further studies are warranted to investigate cathepsins as possible prognostic biomarkers for the aggressiveness of ovarian cancer.1 mei 201

    Resistance to sulphate corrosion of mortars made of new types of ternary cements CEM II/C and CEM VI

    W artykule przeanalizowano odporność na korozję siarczanową nowych rodzajów cementów wieloskładnikowych, będących przedmiotem prac normalizacyjnych, dotyczących nowelizacji normy cementowej EN 197-1. Badane cementy trójskładnikowe zawierały popiół lotny krzemionkowy V, granulowany żużel wielkopiecowy S i/lub zmielony wapień LL. Badania przeprowadzono na zaprawach wykonanych z 4 rodzajów zaproponowanych cementów. Wykazały one, że cementy, w których składzie znajdowała się mieszanina wapienia i popiołu lotnego krzemionkowego nie są odporne na korozję siarczanową, natomiast zastąpienie jednego z tych składników odpowiednią ilością zmielonego granulowanego żużla wielkopiecowego wpłynęło korzystnie na odporność korozyjną badanych mieszanek cementowych.The article analyzes the resistance to sulphate corrosion of new types of multi-component cements, that are the subject of standardization works related to the amendment of the cement standard EN 197-1. Ternary cements contained siliceous fly ash (V), granulated blast furnace slag (S) and / or limestone (LL). The tests were carried out on mortars made of 4 types of proposed cements. Studies have shown that cements which composition was a mixture of limestone and siliceous fly ash are not resistant to sulphate corrosion, whereas substitution of one of these components with a suitable amount of ground granulated blast furnace slag had a positive effect on the corrosion resistance of tested cements

    Zum Effekt von beruflichen Interessenprofilen, Selbstkonzept und Kursniveau auf Leistungsentwicklungen in Mathematik und Englisch

    Dans cette étude de section longitudinale, les effets des profils d’intérêt professionnels sur le développement des réussites sont été analysés dans deux matières principales du second cycle du lycée. Les intérêts professionnels sont conçus en référence à Holland (1997). Ensuite ils ont été modelés sous forme de profil avec les paramètres Level et Things / People et l’orientation Data / Ideas selon Prediger (1982). De plus, il y a eu une analyse sur on deux variables présumées significatives pour le développement de la réussite. Cette analyse s’est faite à l’aide du concept du moi technique et du niveau de cours. Puis, ont étudie les effets médiateurs: Un effet positif de la dimension Things / People a été trouvé sur le niveau de réussite en mathématiques. Par contre, il n’y a pas eu d‘effet de l’orientation des intérêts professionnels sur le développement des réussites en anglais. Pour le changement des réussites dans les deux matières, les effets théoriquement attendus du concept du moi et du niveau de cours sont été trouvés. En mathématiques, on trouve un effet médiateur des intérêts professionnels sur l’effet du concept du moi et sur le niveau de cours. Dans l’ensemble des recherches, des différences techniques dans l’interdépendance des variables ont été trouvées. Ces différences pourraient faire l’objet des futurs projets de recherche
