Development and Evaluation of an Adaptive Digital Module on Enzyme Kinetics

    Get PDF
An adaptive module on basic enzyme kinetics was developed for first- and second-year university students. The module offers more assignments to students who have less knowledge of the theory than to more advanced students. The aim of the research was to investigate what influence students’ backgrounds have on their use and appreciation of this module. Both freshmen and second-year students showed a large variation in the number of assignments they needed to perform in order to finish the module, indicating that the module’s adaptive feature was exploited by all the students. Findings indicated that the prior knowledge was of influence of students’ motivation and perception of difficulty of the modul

Process for removing a small-molecule contaminant from a chlorine compound stream

    Get PDF
The invention pertains to a process for removing a small-molecule contaminant from a chlorine-compound stream, the process comprising an adsorption sequence comprising the steps of (i) an adsorption sequence comprising the steps of - contacting a chlorine compound stream comprising a small- molecule contaminant with an adsorbent for the small- molecule contaminant, the chlorine compound being chlorine or chloromethane, said chlorine compound stream being in the liquid phase, and - withdrawing a purified chlorine compound stream from which small- molecule contaminant has been removed from the adsorbent, and (ii) a desorption sequence comprising the steps of - contacting the adsorbent containing small-molecule contaminant with a chlorine compound stream in the gaseous phase, and - withdrawing a chlorine compound stream comprising small molecule contaminant in the gaseous phase from the adsorbent, wherein the chlorine compound stream used in the desorption sequence is derived from the purified chlorine compound stream obtained in the adsorption section. The chlorine compound steam preferably is a chlorine stream or a monochloromethane stream. The small-molecule contaminant preferably is water. The process according to the invention allows the use of less equipment and gas streams, is flexible and avoids the introduction of additional contaminants

    Multiphase reactions using solid foams

    Get PDF
The present invention relates to a gas-liquid-solid (GLS) process comprising contacting reactants on a solid foam material, wherein the solid foam material has a surface to volume ratio of at least 250 m2/m3. This foam material may include a catalyst composition or a catalyst material may be supported on the foam material. The foam material proyides improved mass transfer and favourable hydrodynamic parameters when compared to conventional packings so that an enhanced contact between reactants and an improved reactor performance is achieved

Improving the Students\u27 Writing Competence in a Second Language Acquisition Through the Implementation of Lesson Study

Writing is the most difficult skill for second language learners. It can be seen, for example, they always make ageneralization, simplification, less of knowing vocabularies, punctuation, spelling, and grammar. This paper will describe improving the students\u27 writing competence in second language acquisition through the implementation of lesson study in faculty of language education of Indraprasta PGRI University of Jakarta. This research uses qualitative approach and the data taken from the students who are studying writing in the class. In applying lesson study, lecturer model explains about the materials based on the syllabus of the subject. The students are also given tasks in their groups. The observers watch and write about the students and assist them. After doing this, the observers discuss about the class with the lecturer model. By doing the implementation of Lesson Study, the students can work in group together, the class is so inspiring, they feel satisfied with the explanation of the lecturer model and havegood impact to improve the students\u27 writing competence
