    A line-oriented flight training program which allows the crew to work as a team to solve all problems, abnormal or emergency, within the crew concept. A line-oriented check ride takes place every six months for the pilot as a proficiency check. There are advantages and disadvantages to this program. One disadvantage is that since it is designed as a check-ride, the scenarios must be structured so that the average pilot will complete the check-ride without complication. This system is different from a proficiency check which can be stopped at a problem area so training to proficiency can take place before proceeding with the check

    This paper describes research in understanding the requirements for complex information systems that are constructed from one or more generic COTS systems. We argue that, in these cases, behavioural requirements are largely defined by the underlying system and that the goal of the requirements engineering process is to understand the information requirements of system stakeholders. We discuss this notion of information requirements and propose that an understanding of how a socio-technical system is structured in terms of responsibilities is an effective way of discovering this type of requirement. We introduce the idea of responsibility modelling and show, using an example drawn from the domain of emergency planning, how a responsibility model can be used to derive information requirements for a system that coordinates the multiple agencies dealing with an emergency

    Although Peer-to-Peer (P2P) computing has become increasingly popular over recent years, there still exist only a very small number of application domains that have exploited it on a large scale. This can be attributed to a number of reasons including the rapid evolution of P2P technologies, coupled with their often-complex nature. This paper describes an implemented abstraction framework that seeks to aid developers in building P2P applications. A selection of example P2P applications that have been developed using this framework are also presented

    The relationship between socio-affective factors and reading proficiency: Implications for tertiary reading instruction

    Research in the field of reading literacy has focussed predominantly on the foundation phase and primary and secondary levels. In addition, these studies in reading literacy are predominantly cognitive-oriented. As a result, information on academic reading at tertiary level is sparse; even  more so with regard to socio-affective factors and students’ reading  proficiency. This paper explores the relationship between tertiary-level students’ socio-affective profile and their reading proficiency. The Test of Academic Literacy Levels (TALL) was used to measure students’ reading proficiency, and ANOVA tests were applied to analyse and yield data on students’ reading background, reading habits, social literacy and several motivational components. The results and the data so obtained indicated arobust relationship between these socioaffective factors and students’ reading proficiency. The paper discusses the research findings and their implications for instructing tertiary-level students in a way that would ensure successful academic reading.Keywords: socio-affective factors, reading proficiency, academic reading,reading instructio
