QCD Factorization for Semi-Inclusive Deep-Inelastic Scattering at Low Transverse Momentum
We demonstrate a factorization formula for semi-inclusive deep-inelastic
scattering with hadrons in the current fragmentation region detected at low
transverse momentum. To facilitate the factorization, we introduce the
transverse-momentum dependent parton distributions and fragmentation functions
with gauge links slightly off the light-cone, and with soft-gluon radiations
subtracted. We verify the factorization to one-loop order in perturbative
quantum chromodynamics and argue that it is valid to all orders in perturbation

We present results on the spectrum of B mesons and heavy baryons, using a
non-relativistic formulation for the heavy and a clover action for the light
quark. We also discuss B meson decay constants and their dependency upon the

Scientific CCD technology at JPL
Charge-coupled devices (CCD's) were recognized for their potential as an imaging technology almost immediately following their conception in 1970. Twenty years later, they are firmly established as the technology of choice for visible imaging. While consumer applications of CCD's, especially the emerging home video camera market, dominated manufacturing activity, the scientific market for CCD imagers has become significant. Activity of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and its industrial partners in the area of CCD imagers for space scientific instruments is described. Requirements for scientific imagers are significantly different from those needed for home video cameras, and are described. An imager for an instrument on the CRAF/Cassini mission is described in detail to highlight achieved levels of performance

Stochastic resonance in bistable systems: The effect of simultaneous additive and multiplicative correlated noises
We analyze the effect of the simultaneous presence of correlated additive and
multiplicative noises on the stochastic resonance response of a modulated
bistable system. We find that when the correlation parameter is also modulated,
the system's response, measured through the output signal-to-noise ratio,

Generalized parton correlation functions for a spin-1/2 hadron
The fully unintegrated, off-diagonal quark-quark correlator for a spin-1/2
hadron is parameterized in terms of so-called generalized parton correlation
functions. Such objects, in particular, can be considered as mother
distributions of generalized parton distributions on the one hand and
transverse momentum dependent parton distributions on the other. Therefore, our
study provides new, model-independent insights into the recently proposed
nontrivial relations between generalized and transverse momentum dependent
parton distributions. We find that none of these relations can be promoted to a
model-independent status. As a by-product we obtain the first complete
classification of generalized parton distributions beyond leading twist. The
present paper is a natural extension of our previous corresponding analysis for

Partonic Pole Matrix Elements for Fragmentation
A model-independent analysis of collinear three-parton correlation functions
for fragmentation is performed. By investigating their support properties it is
shown, in particular, that the so-called partonic pole matrix elements vanish.
This sheds new light on the understanding of transverse single spin asymmetries
in various hard semi-inclusive reactions. Moreover, it gives additional strong
evidence for the universality of transverse-momentum-dependent fragmentation

Characterization and control of small-world networks
Recently Watts and Strogatz have given an interesting model of small-world
networks. Here we concretise the concept of a ``far away'' connection in a
network by defining a {\it far edge}. Our definition is algorithmic and
independent of underlying topology of the network. We show that it is possible
to control spread of an epidemic by using the knowledge of far edges. We also
suggest a model for better advertisement using the far edges. Our findings
indicate that the number of far edges can be a good intrinsic parameter to
characterize small-world phenomena.Comment: 9 pages and 6 figure
Hard-scattering factorization with heavy quarks: A general treatment
A detailed proof of hard scattering factorization is given with the inclusion
of heavy quark masses. Although the proof is explicitly given for
deep-inelastic scattering, the methods apply more generally The
power-suppressed corrections to the factorization formula are uniformly
suppressed by a power of \Lambda/Q, independently of the size of heavy quark

Renormalization and resummation in finite temperature field theories
Resummation, ie. reorganization of perturbative series, can result in an
inconsistent perturbation theory, unless the counterterms are reorganized in an
appropriate way. In this paper two methods are presented for resummation of
counterterms: one is a direct method where the necessary counterterms are
constructed order by order; the other is a general one, based on
renormalization group arguments. We demonstrate at one hand that, in mass
independent schemes, mass resummation can be performed by gap equations
renormalized prior to the substitution of the resummed mass for its argument.
On the other hand it is shown that any (momentum-independent) form of mass and
coupling constant resummation is compatible with renormalization, and one can
