    Situational analysis of the subjective well-being of university software developers in Puebla

    Integral well-being is vital for the optimal functioning of people. The requirements for a software developer in the performance of their professional activity are varied and complex. These requirements range from working in multidisciplinary and multilingual teams, going through the challenge of technological advances of the discipline to commit to quality and innovation. To face these demands, it is essential that the developers have an optimal functioning, where the experience emotional and satisfaction with life play an important role. The objective of this article is to analyze the subjective well-being of university software developers in Puebla. The research is a quantitative cross-correlation study to identify statistically significant relationships between the different welfare variables. The study involved 47 university software developers from the city of Puebla. We use Pearson's multivariate correlation to validate the instruments and find relationships between variables, and Chi-squared statistics to calculate the dependency between them. The results reveal that the university software developers experience with higher incidence and intensity, the positive affections over the negatives. The affective balance (Net Affect), calculated as the difference of the weighted averages by duration between positive affective states and negative, was positive (mean = 1.31). "Concentrated" is the positive affective state with the highest incidence and with the highest reported intensity. "Tired" is the most experienced negative affect and highest in intensity. Developers spend 40% of their time experiencing negative affective states (U-index) and are moderately satisfied with their lives in general

    ObjetivosEstimar la prevalencia de los principales factores de riesgo cardiovascular (FRCV) tras la confirmación diagnóstica con el criterio clínico. Analizar el grado de su conocimiento y control, y evaluar la asociación de los FRCV entre sí, estimando qué población es susceptible de intervención.DiseñoEstudio observacional, descriptivo,transversal.EmplazamientoEstudio poblacional realizado en el Área de Salud número 20 de la Comunidad Valenciana (comarca de la Vega Baja del río Segura)PacientesPersonas con ≥ 20 años residentes en dicha área. Muestreo aleatorio polietápico proporcional con definición de cuotas muestrales según el tipo de residencia. Tamaño muestral: 2.550 personas (falta de respuesta en la primera fase en el 26%). Segunda fase del estudio: se realiza la confirmación clínica de los 374 casos detectados de hipertensión arterial (HTA), los 126 de hipercolesterolemia (HCOL) y los 33 de diabetes mellitus (DM).MedicionesSe realiza una entrevista a los pacientes detectados para las tomas de presión arterial a los hipertensos y para practicar la extracción sanguínea a hipercolesterolémicos y diabéticos. Se han utilizado los criterios diagnósticos preconizados por los últimos consensos.ResultadosParticipan 1.886 personas (78,1%). Prevalencias halladas: HTA total, 42 ± 2,2%; diagnosticada, 11,7 ± 1,4%; HCOL total, 26,6 ± 2%; DM total, 9,5 ± 1,3%; tabaquismo: 33,6 ± 2,1% y obesidad: 31,6 ± 2,1%. Grado de control: HTA, 8,6%; HCOL, 21,7%; DM, 56,1%. Asociación de FRCV: el 25,5% no presenta hipertensión, hipercolesterolemia ni fuma.ConclusionesElevada prevalencia FRCV en nuestra área frente a los resultados publicados de ámbito nacional. El tabaquismo resulta menos frecuente que en el resto del país. El grado de control es escaso y la asociación de los FRCV principales para cardiopatía isquémica reflejan que cerca del 75% de la población debe ser intervenida.ObjectivesTo calculate the prevalence of the main cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF) after diagnostic confirmation using clinical criteria. Patients. People who had lived in this Area for ³20 years. Proportional, multi-stage randomised sampling with definition of sample quotas according to type of residence. Sample size: 2550 people (no reply in first stage: 26%). The second stage involved the clinical confirmation of those identified as suffering from hypertension (HT) (374), hypercholesterolaemia (HCOL) (126), and diabetes (DM) (33).MeasurementsPatients identified were interviewed for taking blood pressure in the case of those with HT, and blood samples in the case of those with HCOL and DM. The diagnostic criteria recommended by the latest consensus were used.Results1886 people (78.1%) took part. Prevalences found: total HT 42±2.2%, diagnosed: 11.7±1.4; total HCOL 26.6±2%; total DM 9.5±1.3%.Tobacco dependency was 33.6±2.1% and Obesity: 31.6±2.1%. Degree of control: HT, 8.6%; HCOL, 21.7%; DM, 56.1%. Association of CVR factors with each other: 25.5% had neither HT nor HCOL and did not smoke.ConclusionsHigh prevalence of CVRF in our area, compared with published national findings.Tobacco dependency is less common than at national level. The degree of control is very low and the association of the main CVRF factors for ischaemic cardiopathy reflect that nearly 75% of the population requires a preventive intervention

    Supramolecular coordination chemistry of aromatic polyoxalamide ligands: A metallosupramolecular approach toward functional magnetic materials

    The impressive potential of the metallosupramolecular approach in designing new functional magnetic materials constitutes a great scientific challenge for the chemical research community that requires an interdisciplinary collaboration. New fundamental concepts and future applications in nanoscience and nanotechnology will emerge from the study of magnetism as a supramolecular function in metallosupramolecular chemistry. Our recent work on the rich supramolecular coordination chemistry of a novel family of aromatic polyoxalamide (APOXA) ligands with first-row transition metal ions has allowed us to move one step further in the rational design of metallosupramolecular assemblies of increasing structural and magnetic complexity. Thus, we have taken advantage of the new developments of metallosupramolecular chemistry and, in particular, the molecular-programmed self-assembly methods that exploit the coordination preferences of paramagnetic metal ions and suitable designed polytopic ligands. The resulting self-assembled di- and trinuclear metallacyclic complexes with APOXA ligands, either metallacyclophanes or metallacryptands, are indeed ideal model systems for the study of the electron exchange mechanism between paramagnetic metal centers through extended π-conjugated aromatic bridges. So, the influence of different factors such as the topology and conformation of the bridging ligand or the electronic configuration and magnetic anisotropy of the metal ion have been investigated in a systematic way. These oligonuclear metallacyclic complexes can be important in the development of a new class of molecular magnetic devices, such as molecular magnetic wires (MMWs) and switches (MMSs), which are major goals in the field of molecular electronics and spintronics. On the other hand, because of their metal binding capacity through the outer carbonyl-oxygen atoms of the oxamato groups, they can further be used as ligands, referred to as metal–organic ligands (MOLs), toward either coordinatively unsaturated metal complexes or fully solvated metal ions. This well-known “complex-as-ligand” approach affords a wide variety of high-nuclearity metal–organic clusters (MOCs) and high-dimensionality metal–organic polymers (MOPs). The judicious choice of the oligonuclear MOL, ranging from mono- to di- and trinuclear species, has allowed us to control the overall structure and magnetic properties of the final oxamato-bridged multidimensional (nD, n = 0–3) MOCs and MOPs. The intercrossing between short- (nanoscopic) and long-range (macroscopic) magnetic behavior has been investigated in this unique family of oxamato-bridged metallosupramolecular magnetic materials expanding the examples of low-dimensional, single-molecule (SMMs) and single-chain (SCMs) magnets and high-dimensional, open-framework magnets (OFMs), which are brand-new targets in the field of molecular magnetism and materials science

    Oral administration of mebendazole failed to reduce nematode egg shedding in captive African gazelles

    Idiosyncrasies are observed in captive wild animals as regards the pharmacokinetics and efficacy of anthelmintics. This could be attributed to such factors as differences in host’s metabolism, irregular distribution of anthelmintics due to the way they are administered and worm resistance to anthelmintics. Previously mebendazole was found to be poorly effective when administered in feed. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of mebendazole when administered at the dosage rate of 15-20 mg/kg body weight to gastrointestinal nematodes in captive gazelles. Fifty-eight adult gazelles ( Gazella cuvieri) were divided into four groups: T1 (animals dosed orally, directly into the mouth), T2 (treated orally, mixed in the water of a herd), T3 (treated orally, mixed in the water of one animal) and T4 (not treated). Individual faecal samples were taken before treatment, and 15 days thereafter. Mean percentages of reduction of egg shedding were calculated for Nematodirus spp., other trichostrongyles, total trichostrongylids, Trichuris spp. and total nematodes. No statistically significant differences were detected between the treatment groups and the control group or among the animals in the three treatment groups.The articles have been scanned in colour with a HP Scanjet 5590; 600dpi.     Intravitreal injection of proinsulin-loaded microspheres delays photoreceptor cell death and vision loss in the rd10 mouse model of retinitis pigmentosa

The induction of proinsulin expression by transgenesis or intramuscular gene therapy has been shown previously to retard retinal degeneration in mouse and rat models of retinitis pigmentosa (RP), a group of inherited conditions that result in visual impairment. We investigated whether intraocular treatment with biodegradable poly (lactic-co-glycolic) acid microspheres (PLGA-MS) loaded with proinsulin has cellular and functional neuroprotective effects in the retinaMETHODS. Experiments were performed using the Pde6brd10 mouse model of RP. Methionylated human recombinant proinsulin (hPI) was formulated in PLGA-MS, which were administered by intravitreal injection on postnatal days (P) 14 to 15. Retinal neuroprotection was assessed at P25 by electroretinography, and by evaluating outer nuclear layer (ONL) cellular preservation. The attenuation of photoreceptor cell death by hPI was determined by TUNEL assay in cultured P22 retinas, as well as Akt phosphorylation by immunoblottingRESULTS. We successfully formulated hPI PLGA-MS to deliver the active molecule for several weeks in vitro. The amplitude of b-cone and mixed b-waves in electroretinographic recording was significantly higher in eyes injected with hPI-PLGA-MS compared to control eyes.Treatment with hPI-PLGA-MS attenuated photoreceptor cell loss, as revealed by comparing ONL thickness and the number of cell rows in this layer in treated versus untreated retinas. Finally, hPI prevented photoreceptor cell death and increased AktThr308 phosphorylation in organotypic cultured retinas.CONCLUSIONS. Retinal degeneration in the rd10 mouse was slowed by a single intravitreal injection of hPI-PLGA-MS.     A new alternative for obtaining nanocrystalline bioactive coatings: study of hydroxyapatite deposition mechanisms by cold gas praying

    The present article is intended to study the deposition mechanisms of bioactive hydroxyapatite (HA) particles by means of Cold Gas Spraying (CGS). A comparison of the deposition on two different substrates (Ti6Al4V and Al7075T6) and different particle sizes is presented. Although this is a more specific deposition technique for ductile materials, it is here shown that, in certain conditions, ceramic deposition is possible despite the inherent low ductility. The resulting internal structure and the features at the particle-substrate interface are discussed in view of Transmission Electron Microscopy examinations of a Focused Ion Beam lift-out prepared sample. Mainly, under shock compressive loading, the porous sintered powder proceeds through pore collapse, fragmentation and densification as well as grain refinement.
