Bi-objective facility location in the presence of uncertainty
Multiple and usually conflicting objectives subject to data uncertainty are
main features in many real-world problems. Consequently, in practice,
decision-makers need to understand the trade-off between the objectives,
considering different levels of uncertainty in order to choose a suitable
solution. In this paper, we consider a two-stage bi-objective single source
capacitated model as a base formulation for designing a last-mile network in
disaster relief where one of the objectives is subject to demand uncertainty.
We analyze scenario-based two-stage risk-neutral stochastic programming,
adaptive (two-stage) robust optimization, and a two-stage risk-averse
stochastic approach using conditional value-at-risk (CVaR). To cope with the
bi-objective nature of the problem, we embed these concepts into two criterion
space search frameworks, the -constraint method and the balanced box
method, to determine the Pareto frontier. Additionally, a matheuristic
technique is developed to obtain high-quality approximations of the Pareto
frontier for large-size instances. In an extensive computational experiment, we
evaluate and compare the performance of the applied approaches based on
real-world data from a Thies drought case, Senegal

Design and Construction of Zana Robot for Modeling Human Player in Rock-paper-scissors Game using Multilayer Perceptron, Radial basis Functions and Markov Algorithms
In this paper, the implementation of artificial neural networks (multilayer perceptron [MLP] and radial base functions [RBF]) and the upgraded Markov chain model have been studied and performed to identify the human behavior patterns during rock, paper, and scissors game. The main motivation of this research is the design and construction of an intelligent robot with the ability to defeat a human opponent. MATLAB software has been used to implement intelligent algorithms. After implementing the algorithms, their effectiveness in detecting human behavior pattern has been investigated. To ensure the ideal performance of the implemented model, each player played with the desired algorithms in three different stages. The results showed that the percentage of winning computer with MLP and RBF neural networks and upgraded Markov model, on average in men and women is 59%, 76.66%, and 75%, respectively. Obtained results clearly indicate a very good performance of the RBF neural network and the upgraded Markov model in the mental modeling of the human opponent in the game of rock, paper, and scissors. In the end, the designed game has been employed in both hardware and software which include the Zana intelligent robot and a digital version with a graphical user interface design on the stand. To the best knowledge of the authors, the precision of novel presented method for determining human behavior patterns was the highest precision among all of the previous studies
Cytotoxic furanosesquiterpenoids and steroids from Ircinia mutans sponges
CONTEXT: Ircinia mutans Wilson (Irciniidae) is a sponge with antimicrobial and cytotoxic constituents. OBJECTIVE: Our objective was to characterise the cytotoxic constituents of two seasonal collections of I. mutans. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The sponges were extracted in methanol-dichloromethane and their constituents were purified and characterised using column chromatography, GC-MS, 1 D and 2 D NMR. Anti-proliferative activities of the compounds, were evaluated using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) colorimetric assay (0.25–100 μg/mL, 72 h) against leukaemia (MOLT-4), breast (MCF-7) and colon cancer (HT-29) human cells. RESULTS: Three furanosesquiterpoids; furodysin (1), ent-furodysinin (2) and furoircin (3) and ten sterols were characterised in I. mutans, for the first time. Cholesterol (4), cholesta-5, 7-dien-3β-ol (5) and ergosterol (6) were determined in the sponge from the winter collections, while cholesta-5, 22-dien-3β-ol (7), 24-methyldesmosterol (8), campesterol (9), stigmasterol (10), γ-ergostenol (11), chondrillasterol (12) and γ-sitosterol (13) were detected in the summer samples. The steroids from the winter collection exhibited cytotoxic activity with IC(50) values of 13.0 ± 0.9, 11.1 ± 1.7 and 1.1 ± 0.4 µg/mL, against the mentioned cancer cell lines, respectively, while those from the summer sample, showed greater activity, IC(50) = 1.1 ± 0.2 μg/mL against MOLT-4. The purified steroids showed potent MOLT-4 cytotoxic activity, IC(50) values = 2.3–7.8 µg/mL. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: The present study suggests that I. mutans is a rich source of cytotoxic steroids, and introduces 3 as new natural product. Considering the high cytotoxic activity of the steroids, these structures could be candidates for anticancer drug development in future research
Monodisperse Cylindrical Micelles and Block Comicelles of Controlled Length in Aqueous Media
Cylindrical
block copolymer micelles have shown considerable promise
in various fields of biomedical research. However, unlike spherical
micelles and vesicles, control over their dimensions in biologically
relevant solvents has posed a key challenge that potentially limits
in depth studies and their optimization for applications. Here, we
report the preparation of cylindrical micelles of length in the wide
range of 70 nm to 1.10 μm in aqueous media with narrow length
distributions (length polydispersities <1.10). In our approach,
an amphiphilic linear-brush block copolymer, with high potential for
functionalization, was synthesized based on poly(ferrocenyldimethylsilane)-b-poly(allyl glycidyl ether) (PFS-b-PAGE)
decorated with triethylene glycol (TEG), abbreviated as PFS-b-(PEO-g-TEG). PFS-b-(PEO-g-TEG) cylindrical micelles of controlled length with low
polydispersities were prepared in N,N-dimethylformamide using small seed initiators via living crystallization-driven
self-assembly. Successful dispersion of these micelles into aqueous
media was achieved by dialysis against deionized water. Furthermore,
B–A–B amphiphilic triblock comicelles with PFS-b-poly(2-vinylpyridine) (P2VP) as hydrophobic “B”
blocks and hydrophilic PFS-b-(PEO-g-TEG) “A” segments were prepared and their hierarchical
self-assembly in aqueous media studied. It was found that superstructures
formed are dependent on the length of the hydrophobic blocks. Quaternization
of P2VP was shown to cause the disassembly of the superstructures,
resulting in the first examples of water-soluble cylindrical multiblock
comicelles. We also demonstrate the ability of the triblock comicelles
with quaternized terminal segments to complex DNA and, thus, to potentially
function as gene vectors
Evaluation of recombinant adenovirus vectors and adjuvanted protein as a heterologous prime-boost strategy using HER2 as a model antigen.
Induction of strong antigen-specific cell-mediated and humoral responses are critical to developing a successful therapeutic vaccine. Herein, using HER2 as a model antigen, we aim to evaluate a therapeutic vaccine protocol that elicits anti-tumor antibody and cytotoxic T cells to HER2/neu antigen. Replication-competent (ΔPS AdV) and non-replicating recombinant adenoviral vectors (AdV) expressing a rat HER2/neu (ErbB2) oncogene, were generated and compared for four different doses and over four time points for their ability to induce antigen-specific T and B cell responses in mice. Although ΔPS AdV:Her2 vector was shown to induce more durable antigen-specific CD8⁺ T cell responses, overall, the AdV:Her2 vector induced broader T and B cell responses. Hence the AdV:Her2 vector was used to evaluate a heterologous prime-boost vaccination regimen using rat HER2 protein encapsulated in archaeosomes composed of a semi-synthetic glycolipid (sulfated S-lactosylarchaeol, SLA; and lactosylarchaeol, LA) (SLA/LA:HER2enc) or admixed with archaeosomes composed of SLA alone (SLA:HER2adm). We first tested AdV:Her2 using a prime-boost approach with SLA/LA:HER2enc, and thereafter evaluated a sub-optimal AdV:Her2 dose in a heterologous prime-boost approach with SLA:HER2adm. A single administration of AdV:Her2 alone induced strong cell-mediated immune responses, whereas SLA/LA:HER2enc alone induced strong antigen-specific IgG titers. In mice primed with a suboptimal dose of AdV:Her2, strong CD8⁺ T-cell responses were observed after a single dose which were not further augmented by protein boost. AdV:Her2 induced CD4⁺ specific T-cell responses were augmented by SLA:HER2adm. Homologous vaccination using SLA:HER2adm induced strong antigen-specific antibody responses. However, the overall magnitude of the responses was similar with three doses of SLA:HER2adm or Ad:HER2 prime followed by two doses of SLA:HER2adm. We demonstrate that AdV:Her2 is capable of inducing strong antigen-specific CD8⁺ T cell responses, even at a low dose, and that these responses can be broadened to include antigen-specific antibody responses by boosting with SLA adjuvanted proteins without compromising CD8 T cell responses elicited by AdV priming

Knowledge Sharing Idiosyncrasies of University Students in Ghana
Part 6: Decision Making and Knowledge ManagementInternational audienceThis study explored the factors affecting knowledge sharing behaviour of students in a higher institution of learning. Using a model derived from the Social Cognitive Theory and the Theory of Reason Action, six hypotheses were tested from a cross-sectional data collected from 371 undergraduate students on a 4-year degree programme in the University of Ghana. Five out of the six hypotheses were supported. The results showed that the knowledge sharing behaviour (KSB) of the students was significantly related to five of the human and environmental factors (F=639.9, df=5, 290, p<0.05) with a co-efficient of variation of R2=0.917 (91.7%). The knowledge sharing behavior of the students was, however, not significantly dependent on their personal characteristics. The study makes a case for increased attention in understanding the human and environmental factors of knowledge sharing since knowledge sharing is largely a people activity shaped by culture
