EAS fluctuation approach to primary mass composition investigation
The analysis of muon and electron fluctuation distribution shapes by statistical method of invers problem solution gives the possibility to obtain the relative contribution values of the five main primary nuclei groups. The method is model-independent for a big class of interaction models and can give good results for observation levels not too far from the development maximum and for the selection of showers with fixed sizes and zenith angles not bigger than 30 deg
Some evidence for high energy gamma-ray sources at large galactic latitudes
The arrival directions of the gamma-quanta with energies of about 10 to 15th power eV which were registrated by Tien Shan experiment were compared with COS-B observations. On the basis of the Monte Carlo simulations it was shown with low probability that arrival directions of Tien Shan gamma-quanta initiated showers are not uniformly distributed. It is shown that in the region not seen by COS-B mission, the high energy gamma-ray sources should be located at position of 90 deg. 1 sup 11 130 deg and b sup 11 or = 50 deg. The integral intensity of these sources should be I ( 10 to the 15th power eV) = 4.8 + or - 1.7).10 to the 13th power/sq cm/s/str. There is no coincidence between the gamma-quanta registrated by Tien Shan experiment with Geminga intense COS-B gamma source. So it is shown that the integral photon spectrum of Geminga (I(e) approx E sup-Beta, where Beta = 0.8 for E 1 GeV) becomes steeper (Beta 1.2) in high energy region with probability 99.9.%
Phenomenological characteristic of the electron component in gamma-quanta initiated showers
The phenomenological characteristics of the electron component in showers initiated by primary gamma-quanta were analyzed on the basis of the Tien Shan experimental data. It is shown that the lateral distribution of the electrons ion gamma-quanta initiated showers can be described with NKG - function with age parameters bar S equals 0, 76 plus or minus 0, 02, different from the same parameter for normal showers with the same size bar S equals 0, 85 plus or minus 0, 01. The lateral distribution of the correspondent electron energy flux in gamma-quanta initiated showers is steeper as in normal cosmic ray showers
Analysis of the electron component of EAS at observational level 700 g x cm(-2) with a scale breaking interaction model and gammaisation hypothesis
Scale breaking model and gammaisation processes for high energies give a correct description of the longitudinal development of extensive air showers (E.A.S.). From the analysis of phenomenological characteristics of E.A.S. at Tien-Shan experiment, it follows that for energies near 10 to the 6 GeV the secondary particle multiplicity increases with energy faster than is predicted by the accepted scale breaking model
Search for excess showers from Crab Nebula
The arrival directions of muon poor showers registrated in the Tien Shan experiment during an effective running time about I,8.IO(4)h were analyzed. It is shown that there is a significant excess of these showers coming the direction of Crab Nebula
Biomonitoring of Atmospheric Pollution with Heavy Metals in the Copper Mine Vicinity Located near Radovis, Republic of Macedonia
This investigation was undertaken to determine the atmospheric pollution with heavy metals due to copper mining Bucim near Radovis, the Republic of Macedonia. Moss samples (Hyloconium splendens and Pleurozium schrebery) were used for biomonitoring the possible atmospheric pollution with heavy metals in mine vicinity. Sixteen elements (Al, As, Ba, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, K,
Mn, Na, Ni, Pb, Sr, and Zn) were analysed by application of flame and electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS and ETAAS) and atomic emission spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma (ICP-AES). The obtained values were statistically processed using nonparametric and parametric analysis. The median value for copper obtained from moss samples (10 mg/kg) was much lower compared with the same values for the whole territory of the Republic of Macedonia (22 mg/kg). The range of values (2.1–198 mg/kg) shows much higher content of this element in the samples taken from the study area compared to the appropriate values for the whole territory of Macedonia. The association of elements As, Cd, Cu, Fe, Pb, and Zn was singled out by factor analysis as a characteristic anthropogenic group of elements. Maps of area deposition were made for this group of elements, wherefrom correlation of these anthropogenic born elements was confirmed
Rigidity-dependent cosmic ray energy spectra in the knee region obtained with the GAMMA experiment
On the basis of the extensive air shower (EAS) data obtained by the GAMMA
experiment, the energy spectra and elemental composition of the primary cosmic
rays are derived in the 1-100 PeV energy range. The reconstruction of the
primary energy spectra is carried out using an EAS inverse approach in the
framework of the SIBYLL2.1 and QGSJET01 interaction models and the hypothesis
of power-law primary energy spectra with rigidity-dependent knees. The energy
spectra of primary H, He, O-like and Fe-like nuclei obtained with the SIBYLL
interaction model agree with corresponding extrapolations of the balloon and
satellite data to ~1 PeV energies. The energy spectra obtained from the QGSJET
model show a predominantly proton composition in the knee region. The
rigidity-dependent knee feature of the primary energy spectra for each
interaction model is displayed at the following rigidities: ~2.5+/-0.2 PV
(SIBYLL) and ~3.1-4.2 PV (QGSJET). All the results presented are derived taking
into account the detector response, the reconstruction uncertainties of the EAS
parameters, and fluctuations in the EAS development.Comment: 28 pages, 18 figures, accepted for publication in Astroparticle
