    Noncommutative symmetric functions and W-polynomials

    Let K,S,D be a division ring, an endomorphism and a S-derivation of K, respectively. In this setting we introduce generalized noncommutative symmetric functions and obtain Vieta formula and decompositions of differential operators. W-polynomials show up naturally, their connections with P-independency, Vandermonde and Wronskian matrices are briefly studied. The different linear factorizations of W-polynomials are analysed. Connections between the existence of LLCM of monic linear polynomials with coefficients in a ring and the left duo property are established at the end of the paper

    Wage-setting Behavior in France: Additional Evidence from an Ad-hoc Survey

    We investigate the wage-setting behavior of French companies using an ad-hoc survey conducted specifically for this study. Our main results are the following. i) Wages are changed infrequently. The mean duration of wage contracts is one year. Wage changes occur at regular intervals during the year and are concentrated in January and July. ii) We find a lower degree of downward real wage rigidity and nominal wage rigidity in France compared to the European average. iii) About one third of companies have an internal policy to grant wage increases according to inflation. iv) When companies are faced with adverse shocks, only a partial response is transmitted into prices. Companies also adopt cost-cutting strategies. The wage of newly hired employees plays an important role in this adjustment.Wage Rigidity, Wage-setting Behavior, Survey Data.

    The digital code driven autonomous synthesis of ibuprofen automated in a 3D-printer-based robot

    An automated synthesis robot was constructed by modifying an open source 3D printing platform. The resulting automated system was used to 3D print reaction vessels (reactionware) of differing internal volumes using polypropylene feedstock via a fused deposition modeling 3D printing approach and subsequently make use of these fabricated vessels to synthesize the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug ibuprofen via a consecutive one-pot three-step approach. The synthesis of ibuprofen could be achieved on different scales simply by adjusting the parameters in the robot control software. The software for controlling the synthesis robot was written in the python programming language and hard-coded for the synthesis of ibuprofen by the method described, opening possibilities for the sharing of validated synthetic ‘programs’ which can run on similar low cost, user-constructed robotic platforms towards an ‘open-source’ regime in the area of chemical synthesis

    By making use of the quantization rule of Raab and Friedrich [P. Raab and H. Friedrich, Phys. Rev. A 78, 022707 (2008)], we derive simple and accurate formulae for the number of rotational states supported by a weakly-bound vibrational level of a diatomic molecule and the rotational constants of any such levels up to the threshold, and provide a criterion for determining whether a given weakly-bound vibrational level is rotationless.     A Twisting Electrovac Solution of Type II with the Cosmological Constant

    An exact solution of the current-free Einstein-Maxwell equations with the cosmological constant is presented. It is of Petrov type II, and its double principal null vector is geodesic, shear-free, expanding, and twisting. The solution contains five constants. Its electromagnetic field is non-null and aligned. The solution admits only one Killing vector and includes, as special cases, several known solutions.Comment: 4 pages, LaTeX 2e, no figures.
