MIMAC : A micro-tpc matrix for directional detection of dark matter
Directional detection of non-baryonic Dark Matter is a promising search
strategy for discriminating WIMP events from background. However, this strategy
requires both a precise measurement of the energy down to a few keV and 3D
reconstruction of tracks down to a few mm. To achieve this goal, the MIMAC
project has been developed. It is based on a gaseous micro-TPC matrix, filled
with CF4 and CHF3. The first results on low energy nuclear recoils (H, F)
obtained with a low mono-energetic neutron field are presented. The discovery
potential of this search strategy is discussed and illustrated by a realistic

Improvements in the South African HIV care cascade: findings on 90-90-90 targets from successive population-representative surveys in North West Province.
IntroductionTo achieve epidemic control of HIV by 2030, countries aim to meet 90-90-90 targets to increase knowledge of HIV-positive status, initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) and viral suppression by 2020. We assessed the progress towards these targets from 2014 to 2016 in South Africa as expanded treatment policies were introduced using population-representative surveys.MethodsData were collected in January to March 2014 and August to November 2016 in Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District, North West Province. Each multi-stage cluster sample included 46 enumeration areas (EA), a target of 36 dwelling units (DU) per EA, and a single resident aged 18 to 49 per DU. Data collection included behavioural surveys, rapid HIV antibody testing and dried blood spot collection. We used weighted general linear regression to evaluate differences in the HIV care continuum over time.ResultsOverall, 1044 and 971 participants enrolled in 2014 and 2016 respectively with approximately 77% undergoing HIV testing. Despite increases in reported testing, known status among people living with HIV (PLHIV) remained similar at 68.7% (95% Confidence Interval (CI) = 60.9-75.6) in 2014 and 72.8% (95% CI = 63.6-80.4) in 2016. Men were consistently less likely than women to know their status. Among those with known status, PLHIV on ART increased significantly from 80.9% (95% CI = 71.9-87.4) to 91.5% (95% CI = 84.4-95.5). Viral suppression (<5000 copies/mL using DBS) among those on ART increased significantly from 55.0% (95% CI = 39.6-70.4) in 2014 to 81.4% (95% CI = 72.0-90.8) in 2016. Among all PLHIV an estimated 72.0% (95% CI = 63.8-80.1) of women and 45.8% (95% CI = 27.0-64.7) of men achieved viral suppression by 2016.ConclusionsOver a period during which fixed-dose combination was introduced, ART eligibility expanded, and efforts to streamline treatment were implemented, major improvements in the second and third 90-90-90 targets were achieved. Data acquisition electronics and reconstruction software for real time 3D track reconstruction within the MIMAC project
Directional detection of non-baryonic Dark Matter requires 3D reconstruction
of low energy nuclear recoils tracks. A gaseous micro-TPC matrix, filled with
either 3He, CF4 or C4H10 has been developed within the MIMAC project. A
dedicated acquisition electronics and a real time track reconstruction software
have been developed to monitor a 512 channel prototype. This autotriggered
electronic uses embedded processing to reduce the data transfer to its useful
part only, i.e. decoded coordinates of hit tracks and corresponding energy
measurements. An acquisition software with on-line monitoring and 3D track

Renal Cell Carcinoma with Angioleiomyoma-Like Stroma and Clear Cell Papillary Renal Cell Carcinoma: Exploring SDHB Protein Immunohistochemistry and the Relationship to Tuberous Sclerosis Complex
Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) with angioleiomyoma-like stroma appears to be molecularly distinct from clear cell RCC; however, its relationship to clear cell papillary RCC remains debated. Recent studies have found that similar tumors sometimes occur in patients with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), of which one study found unexpectedly negative succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) B immunostaining. We evaluated immunohistochemistry for SDHB in 12 apparently sporadic RCCs with angioleiomyoma-like stroma and correlated with clinical information for stigmata of TSC. Tumors were compared to a group of 16 clear cell papillary RCCs and 6 unclassified tumors with prominent stroma. With exception of 1 unclassified tumor, all exhibited at least focal cytoplasmic staining for SDHB protein, often requiring high magnification and better appreciated with increased antibody concentration. Detailed history information was available for 9/12 patients with smooth muscle-rich tumors, revealing no stigmata of undiagnosed TSC. Electron microscopy performed on 1 of these tumors revealed mitochondria to be very sparse, potentially accounting for the weak immunohistochemical labeling for SDHB protein. Weak SDHB immunostaining may represent another shared feature of RCC with angioleiomyoma-like stroma and clear cell papillary RCC, likely due to sparse mitochondria, strengthening the possible relationship of these entities. Although smooth muscle-rich tumors have been recently reported in patients with TSC, absence of staining in tumors with this pattern may not be specific for TSC. In tumors with pale or clear cytoplasm, immunohistochemical staining for SDHB should be interpreted with caution as evidence of abnormality in the SDH pathway
A {\mu}-TPC detector for the characterization of low energy neutron fields
The AMANDE facility produces monoenergetic neutron fields from 2 keV to 20
MeV for metrological purposes. To be considered as a reference facility,
fluence and energy distributions of neutron fields have to be determined by
primary measurement standards. For this purpose, a micro Time Projection
Chamber is being developed to be dedicated to measure neutron fields with
energy ranging from 8 keV up to 1 MeV. In this work we present simulations
showing that such a detector, which allows the measurement of the ionization
energy and the 3D reconstruction of the recoil nucleus, provides the
determination of neutron energy and fluence of these neutron fields
Micromegas detector developments for MIMAC
The aim of the MIMAC project is to detect non-baryonic Dark Matter with a
directional TPC. The recent Micromegas efforts towards building a large size
detector will be described, in particular the characterization measurements of
a prototype detector of 10 10 cm with a 2 dimensional readout

Probing the Local Velocity Distribution of WIMP Dark Matter with Directional Detectors
We explore the ability of directional nuclear-recoil detectors to constrain
the local velocity distribution of weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP)
dark matter by performing Bayesian parameter estimation on simulated
recoil-event data sets. We discuss in detail how directional information, when
combined with measurements of the recoil-energy spectrum, helps break
degeneracies in the velocity-distribution parameters. We also consider the
possibility that velocity structures such as cold tidal streams or a dark disk
may also be present in addition to the Galactic halo. Assuming a
carbon-tetrafluoride detector with a 30-kg-yr exposure, a 50-GeV WIMP mass, and
a WIMP-nucleon spin-dependent cross-section of 0.001 pb, we show that the
properties of a cold tidal stream may be well constrained. However, measurement
of the parameters of a dark-disk component with a low lag speed of ~50 km/s may
be challenging unless energy thresholds are improved.Comment: 38 pages, 15 figure

Results of the Sukuma Ndoda (“Stand up, Man”) HIV Self-Screening and Assisted Linkage to Care Project in Johannesburg: A Quasi-Experimental Pre–Post Evaluation
BackgroundHIV testing rates among South African men lag behind rates for women and national targets. Community-based HIV self-screening (HIVSS) distribution and follow-up by community health workers (CHWs) is a scalable option to increase testing coverage, diagnosis, and treatment initiation. We provided HIVSS and assisted linkage to care to men not recently tested (within the past 12 months) residing in high-HIV-burden areas of Johannesburg.MethodsCHWs distributed HIVSS in 6 clinic catchment areas. Follow-up to encourage confirmatory testing and antiretroviral therapy initiation was conducted through personal support (PS) or an automated short message service (SMS) follow-up and linkage system in 3 clinic areas each. Using a quasi-experimental pre-post design, we compared differences in the proportion of men testing in the clinic catchment areas during the HIVSS campaign (June-August 2019) to the 3 months prior (March-May 2019) and compared treatment initiations by assisted linkage strategy.ResultsAmong 4793 participants accepting HIVSS, 62% had never tested. Among 3993 participants with follow-up data, 90.6% reported using their HIVSS kit. Testing coverage among men increased by 156%, from under 4% when only clinic-based HIV testing services were available to 9.5% when HIVSS and HIV testing services were available (z = -11.6; P < 0.01). Reported test use was higher for men followed through PS (99% vs. 68% in SMS); however, significantly more men reported reactive self-test results in the SMS group compared with PS (6.4% vs. 2.0%), resulting in more antiretroviral therapy initiations in the SMS group compared with PS (23 vs. 9; P < 0.01).ConclusionsCHW HIVSS distribution significantly increases testing among men. While PS enabled personalized follow-up, reporting differences indicate SMS is more acceptable and better aligned with expectations of privacy associated with HIVSS
