We compute the correlation functions of the three state superintegrable chiral Potts spin chain for chains of length 3,4,5. From these results we present conjectures for the form of the nearest neighbor correlation function.Comment: 10 pages; references update

Quantum Loop Subalgebra and Eigenvectors of the Superintegrable Chiral Potts Transfer Matrices

It has been shown in earlier works that for Q=0 and L a multiple of N, the ground state sector eigenspace of the superintegrable tau_2(t_q) model is highly degenerate and is generated by a quantum loop algebra L(sl_2). Furthermore, this loop algebra can be decomposed into r=(N-1)L/N simple sl_2 algebras. For Q not equal 0, we shall show here that the corresponding eigenspace of tau_2(t_q) is still highly degenerate, but splits into two spaces, each containing 2^{r-1} independent eigenvectors. The generators for the sl_2 subalgebras, and also for the quantum loop subalgebra, are given generalizing those in the Q=0 case. However, the Serre relations for the generators of the loop subalgebra are only proven for some states, tested on small systems and conjectured otherwise. Assuming their validity we construct the eigenvectors of the Q not equal 0 ground state sectors for the transfer matrix of the superintegrable chiral Potts model.Comment: LaTeX 2E document, using iopart.cls with iopams packages. 28 pages, uses eufb10 and eurm10 fonts. Bosonic Super Liouville System: Lax Pair and Solution

    Get PDF
We study the bosonic super Liouville system which is a statistical transmutation of super Liouville system. Lax pair for the bosonic super Liouville system is constructed using prolongation method, ensuring the Lax integrability, and the solution to the equations of motion is also considered via Leznov-Saveliev analysis.Comment: LaTeX, no figures, 11 page

Mechanical properties of prestressing steel in and after fire

    Get PDF
The mechanical properties of prestressing steel at elevated temperatures and after cooling are essential to the fire resistance design and post-fire evaluation of residual load-carrying capacity of prestressed concrete structures. Experiments were carried out by an accurate testing system for development of empirical formulae to predict the deterioration of prestressing steel at elevated temperatures and after cooling. The helical structure of the commonly used 7-wire strands allows estimation of mechanical properties of the strand based on that of the central wire. Hence only the central wire of strand was tested, which enabled better clamping and control, and hence more accurate measurements. Grade 1860 strands to GB/T 5224 mostly used in Mainland China and Grade 1860 strands to BS 5896 used in European and other countries were tested. Consistent models for reduction factors for various properties were developed. Some strands extracted from prestressed concrete specimens after fire testing were also tested for verification.published_or_final_versio

Fire behavior of two-way post-tensioned concrete slabs provided with bonded tendons: an experimental study

    Get PDF
Fire tests of three reduced-scale two-way post-tensioned concrete slabs with bonded tendons were carried out. This study was intended to investigate the influence of the layout of prestressing tendons, prestressing force and concrete spalling on the structural response of two-way post-tensioned concrete slabs with bonded tendons in fire. The material used to fabricate the specimens, the phenomena observed during the tests, the temperature distributions, the deflections and occurrence of concrete spalling were investigated.postprin

A Single-Stage Z-source Inverter for Transformerless Grid Connection with a Proportional-Resonant Controller for DC Current Elimination

    Get PDF
The ever-rising number of grid-connected inverters contributes to an increase of DC current injection into utility grid, resulting in the saturation of distribution transformers, metering errors and the corrosion of earthling conductors. A transformerless single-stage Z-source inverter uses only two switching devices in its converter circuit to generate sinusoidal voltage as that of a full-bridge inverter. However, this inverter has the problem of having a DC offset in the AC waveform due to the presence of steady-state error when the modulation index is varied. The paper proposes a Proportional-Resonant (PR) control scheme to eliminate this DC offset. By comparing Z-source inverter output voltage with the sinusoidal reference voltage obtained from the sinusoidal control signal, an error signal is obtained which is fed into the PR controller. An infinite gain at the fundamental frequency is introduced by the PR controller, thus achieving zero steady-state error resulting in the elimination of DC current injection into the utility grid. This method does not depend on high-precision current measurement or the use of coupled inductors. Also, this method can be used to improve power quality by providing reactive power compensation to the load at the point of common coupling. Simulation results are presented to confirm that this simple, cost-effective method can be used to eliminate DC current injection for different values of modulation index without compromising the dynamic response of the current feedback loo

How Can Dolphins Recognize Fish According to Their Echoes? A Statistical Analysis of Fish Echoes

    Get PDF
Echo-based object classification is a fundamental task of animals that use a biosonar system. Dolphins and porpoises should be able to rely on echoes to discriminate a predator from a prey or to select a desired prey from an undesired object. Many studies have shown that dolphins and porpoises can discriminate between objects according to their echoes. All of these studies however, used unnatural objects that can be easily characterized in human terminologies (e.g., metallic spheres, disks, cylinders). In this work, we collected real fish echoes from many angles of acquisition using a sonar system that mimics the emission properties of dolphins and porpoises. We then tested two alternative statistical approaches in classifying these echoes. Our results suggest that fish species can be classified according to echoes returning from porpoise- and dolphin-like signals. These results suggest how dolphins and porpoises can classify fish based on their echoes and provide some insight as to which features might enable the classification
