Analytic Non-integrability in String Theory
Using analytic techniques developed for Hamiltonian dynamical systems we show
that a certain classical string configurations in AdS_5 x X_5 with X_5 in a
large class of Einstein spaces, is non-integrable. This answers the question of
integrability of string on such backgrounds in the negative. We consider a
string localized in the center of AdS_5 that winds around two circles in the
manifold X_5.Comment: 14 page
Analysis of the decays induced from SUSY loops within the Mass Insertion Approximation
In this paper we study the lepton favor violating decay channels of the
neutral Higgs bosons of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model into a lepton
and an anti-lepton of different flavor. We work in the context of the most
general flavor mixing scenario in the slepton sector, in contrast to the
minimal flavor violation assumption more frequently used. Our analytic
computation is a one-loop diagrammatic one, but in contrast to the full
one-loop computation which is usually referred to the physical slepton mass
basis, we use here instead the Mass Insertion Approximation (MIA) which uses
the electroweak interaction slepton basis and treats perturbatively the mass
insertions changing slepton flavor. By performing an expansion in powers of the
external momenta in the relevant form factors, we will be able to separate
explicitly in the analytic results the leading non-decoupling (constant at
asymptotically large sparticle masses) and the next to leading decoupling
contributions (decreasing with the sparticle masses). Our final aim is to
provide a set of simple analytic formulas for the form factors and the
associated effective vertices, that we think may be very useful for future
phenomenological studies of the lepton flavor violating Higgs boson decays, and
for their comparison with data. The accuracy of the numerical results obtained
with the MIA are also analyzed and discussed here in comparison with the full
one-loop results. Our most optimistic numerical estimates for the three neutral
Higgs boson decays channels into and leptons, searching for their
maximum rates that are allowed by present constraints from data and beyond Standard Model Higgs boson searches at the LHC, are
also included.Comment: 37 pages, 16 figures, 3 appendices. This version v3 matches the

On the perturbative corrections around D-string instantons
We study -threshold corrections in an eight dimensional S-dual
pair of string theories, as a prototype of dual string vacua with sixteen
supercharges. We show that the orbifold CFT description of D-string instantons
gives rise to a perturbative expansion similar to the one appearing on the
fundamental string side. By an explicit calculation, using the Nambu-Goto
action in the static gauge, we show that the first subleading term agrees
precisely on the two sides. We then give a general argument to show that the
agreement extends to all orders.Comment: 12 page
AdS/CFT correspondence and D1/D5 systems in theories with 16 supercharges
We discuss spectra of supergravities, arising in the near horizon
geometry of D1/D5 systems in orbifolds/orientifolds of type IIB theory with 16
supercharges. These include models studied in a recent paper (hep-th/0012118),
where the group action involves also a shift along a transversal circle, as
well as IIB/, which is dual to IIB on . After appropriate
assignements of the orbifold group eigenvalues and degrees to the supergravity
single particle spectrum, we compute the supergravity elliptic genus and find
agreement, in the expected regime of validity, with the elliptic genus obtained
using U-duality map from (4,4) CFTs of U-dual backgrounds. Since this U-duality
involves the exchange of KK momentum and D1 charge , it allows us to
test the (4,4) CFTs in the and regimes by two different
supergravity duals.Comment: 28 pages, no figure

Derivation of a multilayer approach to model suspended sediment transport: application to hyperpycnal and hypopycnal plumes
We propose a multi-layer approach to simulate hyperpycnal and hypopycnal
plumes in flows with free surface. The model allows to compute the vertical
profile of the horizontal and the vertical components of the velocity of the
fluid flow. The model can describe as well the vertical profile of the sediment
concentration and the velocity components of each one of the sediment species
that form the turbidity current. To do so, it takes into account the settling
velocity of the particles and their interaction with the fluid. This allows to
better describe the phenomena than a single layer approach. It is in better
agreement with the physics of the problem and gives promising results. The
numerical simulation is carried out by rewriting the multi-layer approach in a
compact formulation, which corresponds to a system with non-conservative
products, and using path-conservative numerical scheme. Numerical results are
presented in order to show the potential of the model
