    Women in the Workforce: The Voice of Change

    This study presents a review of the current literature that pertains to the experiences of women in the male dominated working world. The specific focus of this study is the barriers that prevent women from advancing where men succeed. When. women enter the workforce they tend to be naïve about the organizational culture that surrounds them. Women bring with them their natural feminine instincts and behaviors, which are not considered as valuable in the corporate world as male instincts and behaviors. Because they are entering a man\u27s world, women are unaware of the subtle and underlying rules of the corporate game. They see men adapting easily and advancing for their efforts, while the women seem to lag behind as if they are carrying an additional burden each step of the way. At the core of that burden is the fact that women do not think, communicate, or behave like men. The burden is further compounded by society\u27s ingrained perceptions and stereotypes of acceptable feminine behavior, which do not include leadership or effective management characteristics. Although women have been welcomed into the workforce, they have not received equal pay, recognition, or opportunity for advancement as their male counterparts. Despite their efforts, the progress of women has been blocked by the glass ceiling, an invisible barrier than keeps women from advancing where men of comparable skills and abilities succeed. An abundance of researchers have examined a wide variety of issues relating to gender differences in the context of the work environment. The research confirms the hypothesis of this study: The glass ceiling has been constructed with perceptions and stereotypes of gender differences, preventing women from being accepted as equals in the male dominated business world

    Precise Characterization and Multiobjective Optimization of Low Noise Amplifiers

    Although practically all function blocks of the satellite navigation receivers are realized using the CMOS digital integrated circuits, it is appropriate to create a separate low noise antenna preamplifier based on a low noise pHEMT. Such an RF front end can be strongly optimized to attain a suitable tradeoff between the noise figure and transducer power gain. Further, as all the four principal navigation systems (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and COMPASS) work in similar frequency bands (roughly from 1.1 to 1.7 GHz), it is reasonable to create the low noise preamplifier for all of them. In the paper, a sophisticated method of the amplifier design is suggested based on multiobjective optimization. A substantial improvement of a standard optimization method is also outlined to satisfy a uniform coverage of Pareto front. Moreover, for enhancing efficiency of many times repeated solutions of large linear systems during the optimization, a new modification of the Markowitz criterion is suggested compatible with fast modes of the LU factorization. Extraordinary attention was also given to the accuracy of modeling. First, an extraction of pHEMT model parameters was performed including its noise part, and several models were compared. The extraction was carried out by an original identification procedure based on a combination of metaheuristic and direct methods. Second, the equations of the passive elements (including transmission lines and T-splitters) were carefully defined using frequency dispersion of their parameters as Q, ESR, etc. Third, an optimal selection of the operating point and essential passive elements was performed using the improved optimization method. Finally, the s-parameters and noise figure of the amplifier were measured, and stability and third-order intermodulation products were also checked

    Common LISP as Simulation Program (CLASP) of Electronic Circuits

    In this paper, an unusual and efficient usage of functional programming language Common LISP as simulation program (CLASP) for electronic circuits is proposed. The principle of automatic self-modifying program has enabled complete freedom in definition of methods for optimized solution of any problem and speeding up the entire process of simulation. A new approach to program structure in electronic circuit simulator CLASP is described. The definition of simple electronic devices as resistor, voltage source and diode is given all together with description of their memory management in program CLASP. Other circuit elements can be easily defined in the same way. Simulation methods for electronic circuits as linear and nonlinear direct current analysis (DC) are suggested. A comparison of performances of two different linear solvers (an original and the standard GNU GSL) for circuit equations is demonstrated by an algorithm for automatic generation of huge circuits

    Experimental Research of Harmonic Spectrum of Currents at Traction Drive with PMSM

    The paper deals with the significant results of the experimental research of current harmonic spectrum of traction drive with permanent magnet synchronous motor. The experiments were done on a special workplace with a real traction drive for wheel vehicles. Current harmonic spectrum was analyzed by a specialized device on the base of central measuring station. The knowledge of current marked subharmonic components of stator winding is the most significant finding of experiments. The frequencies of these components are given by multiples of frequency of mechanical speeds. The subharmonic components also pass to input DC current of drive. This fact is important in particular from the point of view of legislative requirements to electromagnetic compatibility of drive with railway interlocking devices

    Air-conditioning in the cabins of passenger cars

    ArticleThe objective of this paper is to analyse the current state of the constructional design and operational conditions of air - conditioning device in passenger cars. The research was focused on the function of air - conditioning equipment of passenger cars Skoda and KIA in various modes of operation during the winter, spring and summer season at different levels of air conditioning (without air - conditioning, minimum, medium and maximum level). Air temperature, air humidity, globe temperature, CO 2 concentration, dust concentration and noise inside the cabin w ere measured. Solar radiation plays a big role to rise up temperature inside the cabin. It resulted in the higher values of globe temperature than temperature of the air. The results of the measurements showed that CO 2 values were significantly lower than 2,500 ppm at minimum air - conditioning, lower than 600 ppm at medium and lower than 500 ppm at maximum level of air - conditioning. For all vehicles, dust concentration was greater when it measured with the air conditioning switched off than with the air con ditioning system turned on. The measurements confirmed that the total dust concentration was not more than 47 μg m - 3 , PM 10 lower than 28 μg m - 3 and PM 1 lower than 27 μg m - 3 . The noise levels ranged from 49.1 to 68.7 dB(A). The air - conditioning had very positive impact on the inside comfort in car cabins from all points of view during all periods of the year

    Free-form lens model and mass estimation of the high redshift galaxy cluster ACT-CL J0102-4915, "El Gordo"

    We examine the massive colliding cluster El Gordo, one of the most massive clusters at high redshift. We use a free-form lensing reconstruction method that avoids making assumptions about the mass distribution. We use data from the RELICS program and identify new multiply lensed system candidates. The new set of constraints and free-form method provides a new independent mass estimate of this intriguing colliding cluster. Our results are found to be consistent with earlier parametric models, indirectly confirming the assumptions made in earlier work. By fitting a double gNFW profile to the lens model, and extrapolating to the virial radius, we infer a total mass for the cluster of M200c=(1.080.12+0.65)×1015M_{200c}=(1.08^{+0.65}_{-0.12})\times10^{15}M_{\odot}. We estimate the uncertainty in the mass due to errors in the photometric redshifts, and discuss the uncertainty in the inferred virial mass due to the extrapolation from the lens model. We also find in our lens map a mass overdensity corresponding to the large cometary tail of hot gas, reinforcing its interpretation as a large tidal feature predicted by hydrodynamical simulations that mimic El Gordo. Finally, we discuss the observed relation between the plasma and the mass map, finding that the peak in the projected mass map may be associated with a large concentration of colder gas, exhibiting possible star formation. El Gordo is one of the first clusters that will be observed with JWST, which is expected to unveil new high redshift lensed galaxies around this interesting cluster, and provide a more accurate estimation of its mass.Comment: 19 pages, 10 figures.
