English Canadian Literature in Mexico: Building Bridges in the Case of Dionne Brand's What We All Long For

Abstract The translation of English Canadian literature has been essential towards the construction of an image of English Canadian culture for Mexican readers. This translated literature becomes part of the general literary system in Mexico, affecting both readership and how translation and its publication are practiced in the country. This thesis is a twofold project: In the first part I will examine the place of the subsystem of Canadian literature in translation as part of the Mexican literary polysystem. Second, I translate five chapters of the novel What We All Long for by Canadian writer Dionne Brand, after an analysis of her work. Finally I present a translation commentary of the translation process. This thesis looks to offer a new view of English Canada to Mexican audiences through its literature and expand the image that they have and construct of English Canadian literature

Incorporating translation into sociolinguistic research: translation policy in an international non-governmental organisation

This article explores aspects of translation, multilingualism and language policy in the field of transnational civil society. By focusing on translation policies at Amnesty International, an international non-governmental organisation that performs a key role in global governance, this article seeks to contribute to a globalisation-sensitive sociolinguistics. It argues that combining a sociolinguistic approach, more precisely linguistic ethnography, with translation studies leads to an increased understanding of the language practices under study. Furthermore, the article calls for more interdisciplinary research, stating that there is a space for sociolinguistics and translation studies to contribute to research in international relations and development studies by highlighting the role of multilingualism and challenging the traditionally powerful position of English in transnational civil society

التوافق بين التشخيص بالتنظير ونتائج التشريح المرضي لآفات الحنجرة

الهدف: تقييم مدى التوافق بين النتائج التشخيصية التنظيرية لآفات الحنجرة ونتيجة التشريح المرضي للخزعات المأخوذة من هذه الآفات. نمط الدراسة: دراسة تحليلية مقطعية. المواد و الطرائق: 100 مريضاً لديهم آفات حنجرية (70 ذكراً, 30 أنثى) تم إجراء تنظير حنجرة للمرضى وأخذ خزعة من الآفة الحنجرية من شهر كانون الثاني 2018 حتى كانون الثاني 2020, وتم حساب التوافق بين التشخيص التنظيري ونتائج التشريح المرضي. النتائج: كان هناك توافق بنسبة 80% بين التشخيص بالتنظير ونتائج التشريح المرضي. المناقشة: أظهرت دراستنا أنه لا يوجد دائما توافق بين نتائج التشخيص التنظيري والتشريح المرضي لآفات الحنجرة
