Reprimandable offences: defining employee misbehaviour for investigations of employer disciplinary practices

    Get PDF
Even with the abundance of misbehaviour definitions existing in the literature, there still appears to be a void when it comes to describing employee misbehaviours that are judged by the employer to be unsuitable and deserving some form of disciplinary response. This article considers current definitions of misbehaviour with a view to framing a definition for reprimandable offences: a concept suitable for examining misbehaviour from an employer's disciplinary viewpoint

Beneficial effects of spatial sharing of visual attention on player's performance in a video game

    Get PDF
International audienceIn user interface design, spatial proximity between areas of interest is considered beneficial for user's performance. This study aimed at investigating the impact of split visual attention on players' performance in a video game. The first experiment showed that closer proximity of an important element of a video game user interface, namely the score, with the most watched area of the game screen did not lead to significantly better performance. The second experiment showed that the players' performance was actually better when the score was displayed below the game screen, though the scattering of eye fixations was larger than in the other conditions. For video games user interface, spatial sharing of visual attention may lead to better players' performance

An Evaluation and Interpretation of the Roses in the Rose Garden

    Get PDF
This project aims to assist current and future rosarians in evaluating the roses in the Morris Arboretum’s Rose Garden. This will be accomplished by updating the current Rose Garden database and researching the histories of selected roses. An updated database, plus the monthly evaluations of the roses, will allow for the determination of the best performing roses for this area. The histories will serve to highlight the importance of the Rose Garden and Rosa as a genus. Acknowledging the lack of consolidated information about the Rose Garden available to the public, this need will also be addressed. A website for the Rose Garden will be created for use by the public. A self-guided tour will also be created and posted on the Rose Garden website to encourage visitors to see the entirety of the Rose Garden. As a final product, interpretive metal photo labels will be created to be placed in front of the ten roses

SUPPLEMENTAL STOCKING OF EYED BROWN TROUT EGGS (SALMO TRUTTA M. FARIO L., 1758) WITH THE USE OF WHITLOCK–VIBERT BOXES

Provedenim istraživanjem testirana je osobita metoda poribljavanja ikrom potočne pastrve u fazi očiju (Salmo trutta m. fario L., 1758) primjenom inkubatora tipa Whitlock–Vibert. The research was carried out in the Upper Kupa valley at three different locations–brooks, Lešnički potok, Lešnički jarak and Grčac. During the research efficiency of stocking with Whitlock Vibert boxes were studied. During the three month research period (January 2005 — April 2005) 4000 eyed brown trout eggs from 3 different sources were placed in 14 Whitlock–Vibert boxes. During the research resultes from Grčac brook were excluded from the final analysis of efficiency of Whitlock–Vibert boxes because of technical problems, so resultes for the final analysis were used from 2800 eyed brown trout eggs that were placed in 10 Whitlock–Vibert boxes where 99,53% of the eggs had successfully hatched. The results have shown that the use of Whitlock–Vibert boxes with eyed brown trout eggs is prosperous and that the efficiency of Whitlock–Vibert boxes depends on the quality of eggs and choice of box burial in the stream bed. The research was conducted in the context of the regular management obligations of the fishing right owner on the research area

Seismic vulnerability of masonry heritage buildings in Malta

    Get PDF
The structural behaviour of masonry heritage buildings in Malta subjected to seismic action is a major risk in conserving such buildings. This is because Malta lies on a seismic zone which was subjected to high intensity earthquakes in the past (Galea, 2007). Many of the existing masonry heritage buildings were subjected to major earthquakes of 1693, 1743 and 1856, with repairs ranging from minor repairs to partial rebuilding (Abela, 1969; Galea, 2007). The survival of such buildings does not determine the degree of seismic resistance to any future strong tremor. The study will explore the possibility to determine the seismic vulnerability of masonry heritage buildings using Applied Element Method (AEM), a numerical structural modelling. Since AEM was never used to determine seismic vulnerability of masonry heritage buildings in Malta, simple masonry heritage building typology is being analysed in this study.peer-reviewe
