    Effective Symmetries of the Minimal Supermultiplet of N = 8 Extended Worldline Supersymmetry

    A minimal representation of the N = 8 extended worldline supersymmetry, known as the `ultra-multiplet', is closely related to a family of supermultiplets with the same, E(8) chromotopology. We catalogue their effective symmetries and find a Spin(4) x Z(2) subgroup common to them all, which explains the particular basis used in the original construction. We specify a constrained superfield representation of the supermultiplets in the ultra-multiplet family, and show that such a superfield representation in fact exists for all adinkraic supermultiplets. We also exhibit the correspondences between these supermultiplets, their Adinkras and the E(8) root lattice bases. Finally, we construct quadratic Lagrangians that provide the standard kinetic terms and afford a mixing of an even number of such supermultiplets controlled by a coupling to an external 2-form of fluxes.Comment: 13 Figure

    On Graph-Theoretic Identifications of Adinkras, Supersymmetry Representations and Superfields

    In this paper we discuss off-shell representations of N-extended supersymmetry in one dimension, ie, N-extended supersymmetric quantum mechanics, and following earlier work on the subject codify them in terms of certain graphs, called Adinkras. This framework provides a method of generating all Adinkras with the same topology, and so also all the corresponding irreducible supersymmetric multiplets. We develop some graph theoretic techniques to understand these diagrams in terms of a relatively small amount of information, namely, at what heights various vertices of the graph should be "hung". We then show how Adinkras that are the graphs of N-dimensional cubes can be obtained as the Adinkra for superfields satisfying constraints that involve superderivatives. This dramatically widens the range of supermultiplets that can be described using the superspace formalism and organizes them. Other topologies for Adinkras are possible, and we show that it is reasonable that these are also the result of constraining superfields using superderivatives. The family of Adinkras with an N-cubical topology, and so also the sequence of corresponding irreducible supersymmetric multiplets, are arranged in a cyclical sequence called the main sequence.     A Superfield for Every Dash-Chromotopology

    The recent classification scheme of so-called adinkraic off-shell supermultiplets of N-extended worldline supersymmetry without central charges finds a combinatorial explosion. Completing our earlier efforts, we now complete the constructive proof that all of these trillions or more of supermultiplets have a superfield representation. While different as superfields and supermultiplets, these are still super-differentially related to a much more modest number of minimal supermultiplets, which we construct herein.Comment: 13 pages, integrated illustration

    Band-width control in a perovskite-type 3d^1 correlated metal Ca_{1-x}Sr_xVO_3. I. Evolution of the electronic properties and effective mass

    Single crystals of the perovskite-type 3d13d^{1} metallic alloy system Ca1x_{1-x}Srx_xVO3_3 were synthesized in order to investigate metallic properties near the Mott transition. The substitution of a Ca2+^{2+} ion for a Sr2+^{2+} ion reduces the band width WW due to a buckling of the V-O-V bond angle from 180\sim180^\circ for SrVO3_3 to 160\sim160^\circ for CaVO3_3. Thus, the value of WW can be systematically controlled without changing the number of electrons making Ca1x_{1-x}Srx_xVO3_3: one of the most ideal systems for studying band-width effects. The Sommerfeld-Wilson's ratio (2\simeq2), the Kadowaki-Woods ratio (in the same region as heavy Fermion systems), and a large T2T^{2} term in the electric resistivity, even at 300 K, substantiate a large electron correlation in this system, though the effective mass, obtained by thermodynamic and magnetic measurements, shows only a systematic but moderate increase in going from SrVO3_3 to CaVO3_3, in contrast to the critical enhancement expected from the Brinkmann-Rice picture. It is proposed that the metallic properties observed in this system near the Mott transition can be explained by considering the effect of a non-local electron correlation.Comment: 14 pages in a Phys.     Measurement of the cross-section ratio sigma_{psi(2S)}/sigma_{J/psi(1S)} in deep inelastic exclusive ep scattering at HERA

    The exclusive deep inelastic electroproduction of ψ(2S)\psi(2S) and J/ψ(1S)J/\psi(1S) at an epep centre-of-mass energy of 317 GeV has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA in the kinematic range 2<Q2<802 < Q^2 < 80 GeV2^2, 30<W<21030 < W < 210 GeV and t<1|t| < 1 GeV2^2, where Q2Q^2 is the photon virtuality, WW is the photon-proton centre-of-mass energy and tt is the squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex. The data for 2<Q2<52 < Q^2 < 5 GeV2^2 were taken in the HERA I running period and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 114 pb1^{-1}. The data for 5<Q2<805 < Q^2 < 80 GeV2^2 are from both HERA I and HERA II periods and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 468 pb1^{-1}. The decay modes analysed were μ+μ\mu^+\mu^- and J/ψ(1S)π+πJ/\psi(1S) \,\pi^+\pi^- for the ψ(2S)\psi(2S) and μ+μ\mu^+\mu^- for the J/ψ(1S)J/\psi(1S). The cross-section ratio σψ(2S)/σJ/ψ(1S)\sigma_{\psi(2S)}/\sigma_{J/\psi(1S)} has been measured as a function of Q2,WQ^2, W and tt. The results are compared to predictions of QCD-inspired models of exclusive vector-meson production.Comment: 24 pages, 8 figure

    Clinical characteristics of 80 subjects with KCNQ2-related encephalopathy: Results from a family-driven survey

    Variants of KCNQ2 are associated with a wide spectrum of disorders, ranging from Self-limiting Neonatal Epilepsy (SelNE) to Early Onset Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathy (KCNQ2-DEE). Comorbidities associated with this end of the spectrum have been seldomly described and their impact on the life of patients and their families is yet to be investigated. Collaborating with caregivers from different European family associations, we have developed a questionnaire aimed at investigating the onset and frequency of epileptic seizures, anti-seizure medications (ASM), hospitalizations, stages of development, and comorbidities. Responses from 80 patients, 40 males, from 14 countries have been collected. Median age 7.6&nbsp;years (4&nbsp;months - 43.6&nbsp;years). Of 76 epileptic patients (93.6%), 55.3% were seizure-free with a mean age at last seizure of 26.7&nbsp;months. Among patients with active epilepsy, those older have a lower frequency of seizures (p&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;0.05). We were able to identify three different clusters of varying severity (Mild, Severe, Profound), based on neurodevelopmental features and symptoms, excluding epilepsy. Patients in a higher severity cluster had a higher mean number of comorbidities, which had a higher impact on families. Notably, patients in different clusters presented different epilepsy onset and courses. This study constitutes the most extensive data collection of patients with KCNQ2-DEE, with a focus on comorbidities in a wide age group. The participation of caregivers helps to define the impact of the disease on the lives of patients and families and can help identify new primary and secondary outcomes beyond seizures in future studies

    Measurement of neutral current e+/-p cross sections at high Bjorken x with the ZEUS detector

    The neutral current e+/-p cross section has been measured up to values of Bjorken x of approximately 1 with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 187 inv. pb of e-p and 142 inv. pb of e+p collisions at sqrt(s) = 318GeV. Differential cross sections in x and Q2, the exchanged boson virtuality, are presented for Q2 geq 725GeV2. An improved reconstruction method and greatly increased amount of data allows a finer binning in the high-x region of the neutral current cross section and leads to a measurement with much improved precision compared to a similar earlier analysis. The measurements are compared to Standard Model expectations based on a variety of recent parton distribution functions.Comment: 39 pages, 9 figure

    Combined QCD and electroweak analysis of HERA data

    A simultaneous fit of parton distribution functions (PDFs) and electroweak parameters to HERA data on deep inelastic scattering is presented. The input data are the neutral current and charged current inclusive cross sections which were previously used in the QCD analysis leading to the HERAPDF2.0 PDFs. In addition, the polarisation of the electron beam was taken into account for the ZEUS data recorded between 2004 and 2007. Results on the vector and axial-vector couplings of the Z boson to u- and d-type quarks, on the value of the electroweak mixing angle and the mass of the W boson are presented. The values obtained for the electroweak parameters are in agreement with Standard Model predictions.Comment: 32 pages, 10 figures, accepted by Phys. Rev. D.
