Hand Posture Recognition with standard webcam for Natural Interaction

This paper presents an experimental prototype designed for natural human-computer interaction in an environmental intelligence system. Using computer vision resources, it analyzes the images captured by a webcam to recognize a person’s hand movements. There is now a strong trend in interpreting these hand and body movements in general, with computer vision, which is a very attractive field of research. In this study, a mechanism for natural interaction was implemented by analyzing images captured by a webcam based on hand geometry and posture, to show its movements in our model. A camera is installed in such a manner that it can discriminate the movements a person makes using Background Subtraction. Then hands are searched for assisted by segmentation by skin color detection and a series of classifiers. Finally, the geometric characteristics of the hands are extracted to distinguish defined control action positions

Genetic Analysis of the Fatty Acid Profile in Gilthead Seabream (Sparus aurata L.).

The gilthead seabream is one of the most valuable species in the Mediterranean basin both for fisheries and aquaculture. Marine fish, such as gilthead seabream, are a source of n3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, highly appreciated for human food owing to their benefits on the cardiovascular and immune systems. The aim of the present study was to estimate heritability for fatty acid (FA) profile in fillet gilthead seabream to be considered as a strategy of a selective breeding program. Total of 399 fish, from a broodstock Mediterranean Sea, were analysed for growth, flesh composition and FA profile. Heritabilities for growth traits, and flesh composition (fat, protein, and moisture content) were medium. Heritability was moderate for 14:0, 16:0 and 18:1n9 and for sum of monounsaturated FA and n6/n3 ratio, and it was low for 20:1n11 and 22:6n3 and the ratio unsaturated/saturated FA. Breeding programs in gilthead seabream usually include growth as the first criterion in the selection process of the fish. However, other quality traits, such as fillet fat content and its fatty acids profile should be considered, since they are very important traits for the consumer, from a nutritional point of view and the benefits for the health.Versión del edito

El análisis de datos como útil y objeto de la didáctica de la matemática

En los trabajos de índole etnoestadística sobre investigaciones en ciencias sociales y experimentales se ha puesto de manifiesto la existencia de dificultades y errores en la aplicación de los conceptos y procedimientos estadísticos. Debido a la naturaleza matemática de los conceptos y a los procesos didácticos implicados, en este trabajo analizamos el interés de abordar, desde la perspectiva de la Didáctica de la Matemática, estudios sistemáticos sobre esta problemática

El esquema que describimos es nuestra contribución teórica al conocimiento en el dominio del razonamiento estadístico y para planificar la enseñanza del tema
