On the importance of Sumatra’s East Coast for waterbirds, with notes on the Asian Dowitcher Limnodromus semipa1matus
Since 1984, three surveys were conducted along the east coast of Sumatra. Several coastal wetlands appeared to be of international importance for waterbirds (according to the criteria of the Ramsar Convention). More than 10,000 large waterbirds were identified, including large numbers of Milky Storks Mycteria cinerea and Lesser Adjutants Leptoptilos javanicus,, and over 100,000 migratory waders (28 species) were counted. The observation of a minimum total of 3,800 Asian Dowitchers Limnodromus semipalmatus indicates that the east coast of Sumatra is the main wintering area of the species. In areas of high conservation importance, data were collected on habitat and threats. Several of these areas face heavy reclamation pressure, which necessitates urgent conservation action

The Relationship between Strategic Information Systems Planning Situational Factors, Process Configuration and Success
This paper reports a study into the relationship between the configuration of the process of Strategic Information Systems Planning (SISP) and the success of SISP. SISP is an important activity in the alignment of information technology systems and services to business requirements. However, despite the obvious importance of a proper planning of information technology and information systems in organizations, success of SISP is not evident. And as the success of SISP is also influenced by the process followed in developing the SISP, the research question for this study was, “How does the configuration of the SISP process influence the success of the SISP?” Based on an explorative multi case study, we concluded that the specificity and comprehensiveness of strategies, goals and decisions in an organization has a positive effect on the success of SISP. Another conclusion was that a more dominant role of the IS/IT organization in the SISP process influences the quality of the SISP deliverable positively, but has a negative effect on the building of partnership between business and IT in the organization. A final conclusion was that following a formal SISP methodology does not seem to have an effect on the success of SISP. These findings provide guidance for practitioners that plan to develop an SISP as part of their efforts to align business and IT
The status of storks, ibises and spoonbills in Indonesia
A brief summary is given of the current status in Indonesia of the eleven Stork, Ibis and Spoonbill species occurring in Indonesia. Of these the Storm's Stork, Royal Spoonbill, and White-shouldered Ibis are considered as endangered and likely to disappear in Indonesia within the next decades if no conservation action is undertaken. Ongoing conservation programmes for the species are discussed and additional conservation measures outlined

Context Aware Routing Management Architecture for Airborne Networks
Military environments require highly dynamic mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) to meet operational mission requirements. Decision makers rely on the timely delivery of critical battlefield information to make informed determinations quickly and as accurately as possible. However, traditional MANET routing protocols do not provide quality of service (QoS). Furthermore, they do not implement active controls to minimise the impact of network congestion. This study proposes the use of the information embedded in an air tasking order (ATO) during the planning phase of military missions to optimise the network performance. The trajectories of relevant nodes (airborne platforms) participating in the MANET can be forecasted by parsing key information contained in the ATO. Using this idea it is possible to optimise network routes to minimise edge overutilisation and increase network throughput. In onesimulated test case, there was a 25% improvement of network throughput, and 23% reduction on dropped packets. Using this technique, the authors can selectively preserve the QoS by establishing network controls that drop low-priority packets when necessary. The algorithm improves the overall MANET throughput while minimising the packets dropped due to network congestion

We prove approach to thermal equilibrium for the fully Hamiltonian dynamics
of a dynamical Lorentz gas, by which we mean an ensemble of particles moving
through a -dimensional array of fixed soft scatterers that each possess an
internal harmonic or anharmonic degree of freedom to which moving particles
locally couple. We establish that the momentum distribution of the moving
particles approaches a Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution at a certain temperature
, provided that they are initially fast and the scatterers are in a
sufficiently energetic but otherwise arbitrary stationary state of their free
dynamics--they need not be in a state of thermal equilibrium. The temperature
to which the particles equilibrate obeys a generalized equipartition
relation, in which the associated thermal energy is equal to
an appropriately defined average of the scatterers' kinetic energy. In the
