Sponges of the family Esperiopsidae (Demospongiae, Poecilosclerida) from Northwest Africa, with the descriptions of four new species

Sponges belonging to the genera Amphilectus Vosmaer, Esperiopsis Carter and Ulosa de Laubenfels of the family Esperiopsidae were collected during 1986 and 1988 expeditions of the Netherlands Centre for Biodiversity Naturalis (at that time the National Museum of Natural History at Leiden and the Zoological Museum of Amsterdam) in waters off the coasts of Mauritania and the Cape Verde Islands. Four new species, Amphilectus utriculus sp. nov., Amphilectus strepsichelifer sp. nov., Esperiopsis cimensis sp. nov., Ulosa capblancensis sp. nov., and two already known species, Amphilectus cf. fucorum (Esper) and Ulosa stuposa (Esper) are described and discussed

Structure-stiffness relation of live mouse brain tissue determined by depth-controlled indentation mapping

The mechanical properties of brain tissue play a pivotal role in neurodevelopment and neurological disorders. Yet, at present, there is no consensus on how the different structural parts of the tissue contribute to its stiffness variations. Here, we have gathered depth-controlled indentation viscoelasticity maps of the hippocampus of isolated horizontal live mouse brain sections. Our results confirm the highly viscoelestic nature of the material and clearly show that the mechanical properties correlate with the different morphological layers of the samples investigated. Interestingly, the relative cell nuclei area seems to negatively correlate with the stiffness observed

UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK BIJI BUAH DUKU Lansium domesticum TERHADAP BAKTERI STAPHYLOCOCUS AUREUS DAN ESCHERICHIA COLI

ABSTRACT Duku (Lansium domesticum) provides many benefits for the community. Apart from the fruit which has high nutritional value, duku is believed by the community to have benefits. The study aims to learn about the antibacterial extract of my seed against the staphylococus aureus and escherichia coli. This study used the meseration method with ethanol as a solvent. The antibacterial activity test used the well diffusion method with a concentration of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%. The positive control used was Ciprofloxacin and the negative control used was the CMC solution. Studies show that the suppression of extract is 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% staphylococus aureus, the average drip zone is 11.3mm, 13.3mm, 13.6mm, 11,3mm, and escherichia coli, on average, 10 mm,  9,3mm, 10,3mm, 12,6 mm. The results suggest that the extract of the duku fruit has antibacterial activity against the growth of the staphylococcus aureus and escherichia coli. Keywords: Duku seed, Antibacterial, Antibacterial activity ABSTRAK Duku (Lansium domesticum) banyak memberikan manfaat bagi masyarakat. Selain buahnya yang mempunyai nilai gizi tinggi, duku dipercaya masyarakat memiliki manfaat untuk kesehatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak biji duku terhadap bakteri staphylococus aureus  dan Escherichia coli. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode maserasi dengan pelarut etanol. Uji aktivitas antibakteri menggunakan metode difusi sumuran  dengan konsentrasi 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%. Kontrol positif yang digunakan adalah  Ciprofloxacin dan kontrol negatif yang digunakan adalah larutan CMC.  Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa daya hambat ekstrak dengan konsentrasi 10%, 20%, 30%, dan 40% Staphylococcus aureus rata-rata  zona beningnya 11,3mm, 13,3mm, 13,6mm, 11,3mm, dan Escherichia coli rata-rata  zona beningnya 10 mm, 9,3mm, 10,3mm, 12,6 mm. Dari hasil yang didapatkan  disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak biji buah duku memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Kata Kunci:Biji buah duku, Antibakteri, Aktivitas antibakter

PRODUCTION AND PROFIT OF QUAIL FARMING AS AN ALTERNATIVE INCOME. The demand for livestock products every year had increased, so it needs to be balanced with its availability. Local poultry including quail can be developed to support self-sufficiency in providing food sources of animal protein. Quail had the prospect of being developed considering the city of Manado as a foreign tourist destination and its population tends to increase. Youth of Ulil Albab Mosque as a group that had introduced the quail farming business. The problem was the extent to which the success of the quail livestock business introduced by the Youth Group of Ulil Albab Mosque. This study was conducted with the aim of knowing the production and profit of quail farming as source of alternative income. The research method was survey method, the sample was determined purposively. The data collected were primary and secondary data. Respondents were youth group of the Ulil Albab Mosque on the Unsrat Campus determined by purposive sampling of 4 people. The data analysis was descriptive. The success of quail business depends on the characteristics of the group members. The business was developed as many as 200 heads with egg production increasing every day. Egg marketing was through online. Quail egg consumers were housewives. Purchases of eggs were made for consumption by family members. In conclusion, egg production of quail business of the Ulil Albab Mosque Youth group increased and the profits obtained were positive with R/C value of 1.38 Suggestion, it is necessary to expand the business so that the maximum consumption of quail eggs can be increased
