Observations of two super fast rotator NEAs: 2021 NY and 2022 AB
In the framework of the Visible NEAs Observations Survey (ViNOS) that uses
several telescopes at the Canary Islands observatories since 2018, we observed
two super fast rotator NEAs, 2021 NY and 2022 AB. We obtained photometry
and spectrophotometry of both targets and visible spectroscopy of 2022 AB.
Light curves of 2021 NY obtained in 4 different nights between Sept. 30 and
Oct. 16, 2021 return a rotation period minutes and a light
curve amplitude mag. We found that 2021 NY is a very elongated
super fast rotator with an axis ratio . We also report colours
, , and mag. These are compatible with an S-type asteroid. The light curves of
2022 AB obtained on Jan. 5 and Jan. 8, 2021 show a rotation period
minutes, with amplitudes and mag. 2022
AB is also an elongated object with axis ratio . The obtained
colours are , , and . These colours are similar to those of the X-types, but with
an unusually high value. Spectra obtained on Jan. 12 and Jan. 14, 2022,
are consistent with the reported colours. The spectral upturn over the 0.4 -
0.6 region of 2022 AB does not fit with any known asteroid taxonomical
class or meteorite spectrum, confirming its unusual surface properties.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figure
Mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of heat dissipation In LED bulbs
[EN] We present a detailed study of heating and cooling processes in LED luminaires with passive heat sinks. Our analysis is supported by numerical simulations as well as experimental measurements, carried on commercial systems used for outdoor lighting.
We have focused our analysis on the common case of a single LED source in thermal contact with an aluminum passive heat sink, obtaining an excellent agreement with experimental measurements and the numerical simulations performed. Real-life management of patients with breakthrough cancer pain caused by bone metastases in Spain
Purpose: We aimed to explore the characteristics, and real-life therapeutic management of patients with breakthrough cancer pain (BTcP) caused by bone metastases in Spain, and to evaluate physicians' opinion of and satisfaction with prescribed BTcP therapy. Participants and methods: For the purposes of this study, an ad-hoc questionnaire was developed consisting of two domains: a) organizational aspects and care standards; b) clinical and treatment variables of bone metastatic BTcP patients. In addition, physicians' satisfaction with their prescribed BTcP therapy was assessed. Specialists collected data from up to five patients receiving treatment for BTcP caused by bone metastasis, all patients gave their consent to participate prior to inclusion. Results: A total of 103 cancer pain specialists (radiation oncologists [38.8%], pain specialists [33.0%], and palliative care (PC) specialists [21.4%]) were polled, and data on 386 BTcP patients with bone metastatic disease were collected. Only 33% of the specialists had implemented specific protocols for BTcP management, and 19.4% had established referral protocols for this group of patients. Half of all participants (50.5%) address quality of life and quality of care in their patients; however, only 27.0% did so from the patient's perspective, as they should do. Most patients had multiple metastases and were prescribed rapid-onset fentanyl preparations (71.2%), followed by immediate-release morphine (9.3%) for the treatment of BTcP. Rapid-onset fentanyl was prescribed more often in PC units (79.0%) than in pain units (75.9%) and radiation oncology units (61.1%) (p<0.01). Furthermore, most physicians (71.8%) were satisfied with the BTcP therapy prescribed. Conclusions: Our results demonstrate the need for routine assessment of quality of life in patients with bone BTcP. These findings also underscore the necessity for a multidisciplinary therapeutic strategy for breakthrough pain in clinical practice in Spain
Tensor Analyzing Powers for Quasi-Elastic Electron Scattering from Deuterium
We report on a first measurement of tensor analyzing powers in quasi-elastic
electron-deuteron scattering at an average three-momentum transfer of 1.7
fm. Data sensitive to the spin-dependent nucleon density in the deuteron
were obtained for missing momenta up to 150 MeV/ with a tensor polarized
H target internal to an electron storage ring. The data are well described
by a calculation that includes the effects of final-state interaction,
meson-exchange and isobar currents, and leading-order relativistic

Reduced free asparagine in wheat grain resulting from a natural deletion of TaASNB2: investigating and exploiting diversity in the asparagine synthetase gene family to improve wheat quality
Background: Understanding the determinants of free asparagine concentration in wheat grain is necessary to reduce levels of the processing contaminant acrylamide in baked and toasted wheat products. Although crop management strategies can help reduce asparagine levels, breeders have limited options to select for genetic variation underlying this trait. Asparagine synthetase enzymes catalyse a critical step in asparagine biosynthesis in plants and, in wheat, are encoded by five homeologous gene triads that exhibit distinct expression profiles. Within this family, TaASN2 genes are highly expressed during grain development but TaASN-B2 is absent in some varieties.
Results:
Natural genetic diversity in the asparagine synthetase gene family was assessed in different wheat varieties revealing instances of presence/absence variation and other polymorphisms, including some predicted to affect the function of the encoded protein. The presence and absence of TaASN-B2 was determined across a range of UK and global common wheat varieties and related species, showing that the deletion encompassing this gene was already present in some wild emmer wheat genotypes. Expression profiling confirmed that TaASN2 transcripts were only detectable in the grain, while TaASN3.1 genes were highly expressed during the early stages of grain development. TaASN-A2 was the most highly expressed TaASN2 homeologue in most assayed wheat varieties. TaASN-B2 and TaASN-D2 were expressed at similar, lower levels in varieties possessing TaASN-B2. Expression of TaASN-A2 and TaASN-D2 did not increase to compensate for the absence of TaASN-B2, so total TaASN2 expression was lower in varieties lacking TaASN-B2. Consequently, free asparagine levels in field-produced grain were, on average, lower in varieties lacking TaASN-B2, although the effect was lost when free asparagine accumulated to very high levels as a result of sulphur deficiency.
Conclusions: Selecting wheat genotypes lacking the TaASN-B2 gene may be a simple and rapid way for breeders to reduce free asparagine levels in commercial wheat grain
Spin-Momentum Correlations in Quasi-Elastic Electron Scattering from Deuterium
We report on a measurement of spin-momentum correlations in quasi-elastic
scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons with an energy of 720 MeV from
vector-polarized deuterium. The spin correlation parameter was
measured for the reaction for missing
momenta up to 350 MeV/ at a four-momentum transfer squared of 0.21
(GeV/c). The data give detailed information about the spin structure of the
deuteron, and are in good agreement with the predictions of microscopic
calculations based on realistic nucleon-nucleon potentials and including
various spin-dependent reaction mechanism effects. The experiment demonstrates
in a most direct manner the effects of the D-state in the deuteron ground-state
wave function and shows the importance of isobar configurations for this

HLA Genes in Mayos Population from Northeast Mexico
HLA class I and class II alleles have been studied in 60 unrelated people belonging to Mayos ethnic group, which lives in the Mexican Pacific Sinaloa State. Mayos HLA profile was compared to other Amerindians and worldwide populations’ profile. A total of 14,896 chromosomes were used for comparisons. Genetic distances between populations, Neigbour-Joining dendrograms and correspondence analyses were performed to determine the genetic relationship among population. The new specific Mayo HLA haplotypes found are: HLA-A*02-B*35-DRB1*1406-DQB1*0301; HLA-A*02-B*48-DRB1*0404-DQB1*0302; HLA-A*24-B*51-DRB1*0407-DQB1*0302 and HLA-A*02-B*08-DRB1*0407-DQB1*0302. However, the typical Meso American HLADRB1*0407 represents a 40% of all DRB1 alleles. While common HLA characteristics are found in Amerindian distant ethnic groups, still new group specific HLA haplotypes are being found, suggesting that a common founder effect (i.e. high DRB1*0407) is noticed. Moreover, new HLA haplotypes are almost certainly appearing along time probably due to specific pathogen (?) selection for diversity. Mayo language is close to the Tarahumara one (another geographically close group); notwithstanding both groups are not genetically close according to our results, showing again the different evolution of genes and languages, which do not correlate. Finally, Sinaloa is one of the Mexican States in which more European genes are found. However, the results presented in this paper, where no European HLA genes are seen in Mayos, should have a bearing in establishing transplant programs and in HLA and disease studies
Molecular characterization of interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma
Interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma is an extremely rare cancer that lacks a standard treatment approach. We report on a patient who was surgically resected and remains disease- free. The tumor was assessed for druggable targets using immunohistochemical staining to identify potential agents that could be used in the event of disease recurrence
The PAU Survey: Photometric redshifts using transfer learning from simulations
In this paper we introduce the \textsc{Deepz} deep learning photometric
redshift (photo-) code. As a test case, we apply the code to the PAU survey
(PAUS) data in the COSMOS field. \textsc{Deepz} reduces the
scatter statistic by 50\% at compared to existing algorithms.
This improvement is achieved through various methods, including transfer
learning from simulations where the training set consists of simulations as
well as observations, which reduces the need for training data. The redshift
probability distribution is estimated with a mixture density network (MDN),
which produces accurate redshift distributions. Our code includes an
autoencoder to reduce noise and extract features from the galaxy SEDs. It also
benefits from combining multiple networks, which lowers the photo- scatter
by 10 percent. Furthermore, training with randomly constructed coadded fluxes
adds information about individual exposures, reducing the impact of photometric
outliers. In addition to opening up the route for higher redshift precision
with narrow bands, these machine learning techniques can also be valuable for
broad-band surveys.Comment: Accepted versio
rpoB Gene mutations in rifampin-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis identified by polymerase chain reaction single-stranded conformational polymorphism.
The use of polymerase chain reaction-single-stranded conformational polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) to study rpoB gene mutations in rifampin-resistant (RIFr) Mycobacterium tuberculosis has yielded contradictory results. To determine the sensitivity of this method, we analyzed 35 RIFr strains and 11 rifampin-susceptible (RIFs) strains, using the DNA sequencing of the core region of rpoB for comparison. Of the RIFr, 24 had a PCR-SSCP pattern identical to that of H37Rv; the other 11 had four different patterns. The 11 RIFs had PCR-SSCP patterns identical to that of H37Rv. The sensitivity of the assay was 31.4%; its specificity was 100%. We observed a strong correlation between the degree of resistance and the type of mutation
