Little Things Become Big : Drivers and impacts of benthic cyanobacterial blooms on coral reefs

Over the past four decades, benthic cyanobacterial mat abundance has increased significantly on many coral reefs worldwide. It however remains unclear what actually drives their current success, and how they impact the reef ecosystem as a whole. This PhD thesis presents a missing link that explains - via a mechanistic approach - the recent proliferation of benthic cyanobacterial mats. Results indicate that benthic cyanobacterial mats have a large impact on the functioning of the reef, especially via their vast N2 fixation capacity and release of dissolved organic carbon into the water column. Additionally, in comparison to other reef organisms, benthic cyanobacterial mats have very high nutrient uptake kinetics and high primary productivity rates. These characteristics likely contribute to their recent successfulness on the reef. This thesis furthermore suggests that nutrient and organic matter reduction is essential to prevent benthic cyanobacterial blooms from occurring on the reef

A systematic literature review of the use of social media for business process management

In today’s expansion of new technologies, innovation is found necessary for organizations to be up to date with the latest management trends. Although organizations are increasingly using new technologies, opportunities still exist to achieve the nowadays essential omnichannel management strategy. More precisely, social media are opening a path for benefiting more from an organization’s process orientation. However, social media strategies are still an under-investigated field, especially when it comes to the research of social media use for the management and improvement of business processes or the internal way of working in organizations. By classifying a variety of articles, this study explores the evolution of social media implementation within the BPM discipline. We also provide avenues for future research and strategic implications for practitioners to use social media more comprehensively

Model for web-application based configuration of modular production plants with automated PLC line control code generation

The international competition leads manufacturers in high-wage countries to focus more on high-value products, which often come at the disadvantage of small batch sizes. To remain competitive, the plant engineering for should be time and cost effective. One approach to achieve this are modular production lines. In the presented contribution, a product orientated web- service for the configuration of a modular production plant investigated. The resulting model then is interpreted by a code generator to generate a PLC line control. The approach is validated with a plant of metal hybrid carbon fiber seat rests
