Derived bracket construction and Manin products
We will extend the classical derived bracket construction to any algebra over
a binary quadratic operad. We will show that the derived product construction
is a functor given by the Manin white product with the operad of permutation
algebras. As an application, we will show that the operad of prePoisson
algebras is isomorphic to Manin black product of the Poisson operad with the
preLie operad. We will show that differential operators and Rota-Baxter
operators are, in a sense, Koszul dual to each other.Comment: This is the final versio
An overlapless incident management maturity model for multi-framework assessment (ITIL, COBIT, CMMI-SVC)
Aim/Purpose: This research aims to develop an information technology (IT) maturity model for incident management (IM) process that merges the most known IT frameworksâ practices. Our proposal intends to help organizations overcome the current limitations of multiframework implementation by informing organizations about frameworksâ overlap before their implementation. Background: By previously identifying frameworksâ overlaps it will assist organizations during the multi-framework implementation in order to save resources (human and/or financial). Methodology: The research methodology used is design science research (DSR). Plus, the authors applied semi-structured interviews in seven different organizations to demonstrate and evaluate the proposal. Contribution: This research adds a new and innovative artefact to the body of knowledge. Findings: The proposed maturity model is seen by the practitioners as complete and useful. Plus, this research also reinforces the frameworksâ overlap issue and concludes that some organizations are unaware of their actual IM maturity level; some organizations are unaware that they have implemented practices of other frameworks besides the one that was officially adopted. Recommendations for Practitioners: Practitioners may use this maturity model to assess their IM maturity level before multi-framework implementation. Moreover, practitioners are also incentivized to communicate further requirements to academics regarding multi-framework assessment maturity models. Recommendation for Researchers: Researchers may explore and develop multi-frameworks maturity models for the remaining processes of the main IT frameworks. Impact on Society: This research findings and outcomes are a step forward in the development of a unique overlapless maturity model covering the most known IT frameworks in the market thus helping organizations dealing with the increasing frameworksâ complexity and overlap. Future Research: Overlapless maturity models for the remaining IT framework processes should be explored.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Penetrability of chloride ions in concrete protected by an acrylic painting
ABSTRACT In order do decrease the penetrability of chloride ions in concrete the use of paintings based on polymers can be a good solution. The use of acrylic paintings is recommended because they have good resistance to ultraviolet radiation. It is important to quantify the decrease of chloride ions penetrability obtained by the use of this kind of paintings. The durability of the polymeric paintings is another aspect that needs to be analysed. In this study an acrylic painting was used to protect the concrete and decrease the penetrability of chloride ions. The concrete used was a C12/15, with a cement content of 280 kg/m 3 and a water-cement ratio of 0.60. The acrylic painting was applied in concrete specimens 28 days after casting. In order to have a better protection we applied two coats separated by 5 hours. The penetrability of chloride ions was measured following the ASTM standard C 1202 -94. Before the penetrability tests, some specimens were exposed to UV radiation. The exposition to the light occurred by cycles consisting of alternating periods of 8 hours of UV radiation at 60 ÂșC and 16 hours without UV radiation at 50 ÂșC. Three kinds of exposition were made consisting on 5, 10 and 15 cycles. The results showed always a high penetrability of chloride ions. This occurred because a poor concrete was used. The protection by an acrylic painting decreases the penetrability of chloride ions. The charge passed decreased about 32 %. However, is not possible to achieve low chloride ions penetrability only with the use of acrylic paintings. It is necessary also the use of a good concrete with low porosity. After the exposition to the UV radiation the penetrability of chlorides ions did not increase. It seems that the UV radiation does not affect the properties of the acrylic painting
Using the Sound Card as a Timer
Experiments in mechanics can often be timed by the sounds they produce. In
such cases, digital audio recordings provide a simple way of measuring time
intervals with an accuracy comparable to that of photogate timers. We
illustrate this with an experiment in the physics of sports: to measure the
speed of a hard-kicked soccer ball.Comment: 3 pages, 4 figures, Late
Synchronization and Stability in Noisy Population Dynamics
We study the stability and synchronization of predator-prey populations
subjected to noise. The system is described by patches of local populations
coupled by migration and predation over a neighborhood. When a single patch is
considered, random perturbations tend to destabilize the populations, leading
to extinction. If the number of patches is small, stabilization in the presence
of noise is maintained at the expense of synchronization. As the number of
patches increases, both the stability and the synchrony among patches increase.
However, a residual asynchrony, large compared with the noise amplitude, seems
to persist even in the limit of infinite number of patches. Therefore, the
mechanism of stabilization by asynchrony recently proposed by R. Abta et. al.,
combining noise, diffusion and nonlinearities, seems to be more general than
first proposed.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures. To appear in Phys. Rev.
O sonho â a comprehensive intervention building on poverty fighting
âO Sonhoâ (The dream) is a Portuguese NGO that works in SetĂșbal â a city 45 Km from Lisbon.
Since 2005 âO Sonhoâ has been expanding its participation in community settings. In October 2007 âO Sonhoâ made a protocol with the Portuguese Social Security System, to work for a national poverty ending program â Rendimento Social de Inserção (Social Integration Income), aiming to promote labor, social and community integration of low income population.
This program intends to build with families new tracks for their development, on employment, education, housing, health and civil rights and duties. Intending to build a comprehensive intervention, we have been growing in the areas of microcrĂ©dit â building a coalition to give credit to promote self-employment; training â doing and promoting training on health promotion and prevention; food supplies and clothes â building coalitions in order to address serious hunger and poverty situations; and housing â promoting and developing mutualist solutions with families for access to houses. We stand for the crucial proactive role of individuals, families and communities in their own development, so we assume as core principles for intervention the trust relationship building; and the familyâs capacity and autonomy in their integration process â promoting familiesâ participation and empowerment â, we base our efforts on finding ways to support people on creating new opportunities for using their strengths to grow out of poverty. We assume an active role on poverty ending and community development, focusing on social entrepreneurship and serving people in its most important development issues. We believe that this way of creating new supporting structures for and with the community helps to promote community development and systems change
