    The uniqueness of the solution of the Schrodinger equation with discontinuous coefficients

    Consider the Schroeodinger equation: - Du(x) - l(x)u + s(x)u = 0, where D is the Laplacian, l(x) > 0 and s(x) is dominated by l(x). We shall extend the celebrated Kato's result on the asymptotic behavior of the solution to the case where l(x) has unbounded discontinuity.     Improved interpolating fields for hadrons at non-vanishing momentum

    We demonstrate that a reduction in the noise-to-signal ratio may be obtained for hadrons at non-zero momenta whilst maintaining a good overlap with the ground state through a generalisation of Gaussian/Wuppertal smearing.     The Shape of Covariantly Smeared Sources in Lattice QCD

    Covariantly smeared sources are commonly used in lattice QCD to enhance the projection onto the ground state. Here we investigate the dependence of their shape on the gauge field background and find that the presence of localized concentrations of magnetic field can lead to strong distortions which reduce the smearing radii achievable by iterative smearing prescriptions. In particular, as a0a\to 0, iterative procedures like Jacobi smearing require increasingly large iteration counts in order to reach physically-sized smearing radii rsmr_{sm}\sim 0.5 fm, and the resulting sources are strongly distorted. To bypass this issue, we propose a covariant smearing procedure (``free-form smearing'') that allows us to create arbitrarily shaped sources, including in particular Gaussians of arbitrary radius.Comment: 1+15 pages, 7 figures (24 pdf images

    A priori convergence estimates for a rough Poisson-Dirichlet problem with natural vertical boundary conditions

    Stents are medical devices designed to modify blood flow in aneurysm sacs, in order to prevent their rupture. Some of them can be considered as a locally periodic rough boundary. In order to approximate blood flow in arteries and vessels of the cardio-vascular system containing stents, we use multi-scale techniques to construct boundary layers and wall laws. Simplifying the flow we turn to consider a 2-dimensional Poisson problem that conserves essential features related to the rough boundary. Then, we investigate convergence of boundary layer approximations and the corresponding wall laws in the case of Neumann type boundary conditions at the inlet and outlet parts of the domain. The difficulty comes from the fact that correctors, for the boundary layers near the rough surface, may introduce error terms on the other portions of the boundary. In order to correct these spurious oscillations, we introduce a vertical boundary layer. Trough a careful study of its behavior, we prove rigorously decay estimates. We then construct complete boundary layers that respect the macroscopic boundary conditions.     Antireflective nanotextures for monolithic perovskite silicon tandem solar cells

    Recently, we studied the effect of hexagonal sinusoidal textures on the reflective properties of perovskite silicon tandem solar cells using the finite element method FEM . We saw that such nanotextures, applied to the perovskite top cell, can strongly increase the current density utilization from 91 for the optimized planar reference to 98 for the best nanotextured device period 500 nm and peak to valley height 500 nm , where 100 refers to the Tiedje Yablonovitch limit.     Next-to-leading order QCD corrections to Z boson pair production via vector-boson fusion

    Vector-boson fusion processes are an important tool for the study of electroweak symmetry breaking at hadron colliders, since they allow to distinguish a light Higgs boson scenario from strong weak boson scattering. We here consider the channels WW->ZZ and ZZ->ZZ as part of electroweak Z boson pair production in association with two tagging jets. We present the calculation of the NLO QCD corrections to the cross sections for p p -> e+ e- mu+ mu- + 2 jets and p p -> e+ e- nu_mu nubar_mu + 2 jets via vector-boson fusion at order alpha_s alpha^6, which is performed in the form a NLO parton-level Monte Carlo program. The corrections to the integrated cross sections are found to be modest, while the shapes of some kinematical distributions change appreciably at NLO. Residual scale uncertainties typically are at the few percent level.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figure

    Effect of polarized gluon distribution on spin asymmetries for neutral and charged pion production

    A longitudinal double spin asymmetry for \pi^0 production has been measured by the PHENIX collaboration. The asymmetry is sensitive to the polarized gluon distribution and is indicated to be positive by theoretical predictions.
