Realization of Minimal Supergravity
Minimal supergravity mediation of supersymmetry breaking has attracted much
attention due to its simplicity, which leads to its predictive power. We
consider how Nature possibly realizes minimal supergravity through inflationary
selection of the theory. Minimality is impressively consistent with the present
observational bounds and it might be tested with the aid of low-energy soft
parameters obtained in future experiments.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figure
R-Invariant Topological Inflation
We propose a topological inflation model in the framework of supergravity
with invariance. This topological inflation model is not only free from the
initial value problem of the inflaton field but also gives low reheating
temperature which is favored in supergravity since the overproduction of
gravitinos is avoided. Furthermore, the predicted spectrum of the density
fluctuations is generally tilted, which will be tested by future observations
on CMB anisotropies and large scale structure of the universe.Comment: 7pages (RevTeX file
Strongly Coupled Semi-Direct Mediation of Supersymmetry Breaking
Strongly coupled semi-direct gauge mediation models of supersymmetry breaking
through massive mediators with standard model charges are investigated by means
of composite degrees of freedom. Sizable mediation is realized to generate the
standard model gaugino masses for a small mediator mass without breaking the
standard model symmetries.Comment: 7 pages; v2: the model generalized, gaugino mass corrected; v3:

Dynamical Supersymmetry Breaking without Messenger Gauge Interactions
We investigate low-energy models of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking by means of
vector-like gauge theories for dynamical SUSY breaking. It is not necessary to
introduce messenger gauge interactions utilized so far to mediate the SUSY
breaking to the standard-model sector, which reduces complication in the model
building. We also consider various other ways of SUSY-breaking transmission.Comment: 10 pages, LaTeX, 1 Postscript figur
Dynamical Tuning of the Initial Condition for New Inflation in Supergravity
We point out that for a class of `new inflation' models in supergravity the
required initial value of the inflaton field is dynamically set if there is
another inflation (`pre-inflation') before the `new inflation'. We study the
dynamics of both inflatons by taking a hybrid inflation model for the
`pre-inflation' as an example. We find out that our `new inflation' model
provides reheating temperatures T_R \simeq 10 MeV - 10^4 GeV low enough to
avoid the gravitino problem even in gauge-mediated supersymmetry-breaking
models. We also construct a model where the scale for the `new inflation' is
generated by nonperturbative dynamics of a supersymmetric gauge theory.Comment: 16 pages, late
The Polonyi Problem and Upper bound on Inflation Scale in Supergravity
We reconsider the Polonyi problem in gravity-mediation models for
supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking. It has been argued that there is no problem in
the dynamical SUSY breaking scenarios, since the Polonyi field acquires a
sufficiently large mass of the order of the dynamical SUSY-breaking scale
Lamada_{SUSY}. However, we find that a linear term of the Polonyi field in the
Kahler potential brings us back to the Polonyi problem, unless the inflation
scale is sufficiently low, H_{inf} < 10^{8} GeV, or the reheating temperature
is extremely low, T_{R} < 100 GeV. Here, this Polonyi problem is more serious
than the original one, since the Polonyi field mainly decays into a pair of
gravitinos.Comment: 17 pages, 1 figure, minor corrections, published versio
Minimal Supergravity, Inflation, and All That
We consider an inflationary model in the hidden-sector broken supergravity
with an effectively large cutoff. The inflaton decay into right-handed
neutrinos naturally causes the observed baryon asymmetry of the universe with a
reheating temperature low enough to avoid the gravitino overproduction. We
emphasize that all the phenomenological requirements from cosmology and
particle physics are satisfied in the large-cutoff theory.Comment: 15pages, 4figures, text and refs. adde
Anisotropy of in-plane magnetization due to nodal gap structure in the vortex state
We examine the interplay between anisotropy of the in-plane magnetization and
the nodal gap structure on the basis of the approximate analytic solution in
the quasiclassical formalism. We show that a four-fold oscillation appears in
the magnetization, and its amplitude changes sign at an intermediate field. The
high-field oscillation originates from the anisotropy of the upper critical
field, while the low-field behavior can be understood by the thermally
activated quasiparticles near nodes depending on the applied field angles. The
temperature dependence of the magnetization also shows a similar sign change.
The anisotropy of the magnetization offers a possible measurement to identify
the gap structure directly for a wide class of type II superconductors.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Thermal conductivity in B- and C- phase of UPt_3
Although the superconductivity in UPt_3 is one of the most well studied,
there are still lingering questions about the nodal directions in the B and C
phase in the presence of a magnetic field. Limiting ourselves to the low
temperature regime (T<<Delta(0)), we study the magnetothermal conductivity with
in semiclassical approximation using Volovik's approach. The angular dependence
of the magnetothermal conductivity for an arbitrary field direction should
clarify the nodal structure in UPt_3.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
