Soluble adenylyl cyclase mediates hydrogen peroxide-induced changes in epithelial barrier function
BACKGROUND: Elevated H(2)O(2) levels are associated with inflammatory diseases and H(2)O(2) exposure is known to disrupt epithelial barrier function, leading to increased permeability and decreased electrical resistance. In normal human bronchial epithelial (NHBE) cells, fully differentiated at the air liquid interface (ALI), H(2)O(2) activates an autocrine prostaglandin pathway that stimulates transmembrane adenylyl cyclase (tmAC) as well as soluble adenylyl cyclase (sAC), but the role of this autocrine pathway in H(2)O(2)-mediated barrier disruption is not entirely clear. METHODS: To further characterize the mechanism of H(2)O(2)-induced barrier disruption, NHBE cultures were treated with H(2)O(2) and evaluated for changes in transepithelial resistance and mannitol permeability using agonist and inhibitors to dissect the pathway. RESULTS: A short (<10 min) H(2)O(2) treatment was sufficient to induce resistance and permeability changes that occurred 40 min to 1 h later and the changes were partially sensitive to EP1 but not EP4 receptor antagonists. EP1 receptors were localized to the apical compartment of NHBE. Resistance and permeability changes were sensitive to inhibition of sAC but not tmAC and were partially blocked by PKA inhibition. Pretreatment with a PLC inhibitor or an IP3 receptor antagonist reduced changes in resistance and permeability suggesting activation of sAC occurred through increased intracellular calcium. CONCLUSION: The data support an important role for prostaglandin activation of sAC and PKA in H(2)O(2)-induced barrier disruption. Didactic strategy for the training of skills in clinical trials of Stomatology residents
Introduction: Primary Health Care is the first point of contact that specialists in stomatological sciences provide to the population.
Objective: to develop a didactic strategy for training skills in clinical trials for dentistry residents.
Method: descriptive, cross-sectional study on the Isle of Youth, 2022-2023. Intentional non-probabilistic sampling was used, with the sample consisting of 39 residents, 20 academic committee professors, 17 provincial coordinators and 7 research methodology professors.
Results: a survey was applied to explore knowledge on the topic and it was found that 89,7 % had a low level. The main difficulties identified were in the questions related to knowledge about the researcher\u27s portfolio and the elements necessary to start a clinical trial, with percentages of 7,7 % and 12,8 %, respectively. The proposed strategy was submitted to expert judgment, with scores predominating: very appropriate and moderately appropriate, with values of 64,8 % and 25,6 %, respectively, which represented 90,3 % for the evaluated criteria. The strategy was made up of four stages and actions structured in a coherent manner for its application, which can be enriched from the teaching reflection and the practice of the academic committee of each specialty.
Conclusions: the diagnosis of the current situation of the training of Stomatology specialists on the subject of clinical trials revealed potentialities and shortcomings in the conception, the process and the current level of its developmen

Teenage pregnancy: a social problem for science
Teenage pregnancy has been a social, medical, and educational concern for decades. This phenomenon affects not only the teenager who becomes pregnant, but also her family, her community, and society in general. Over the years, teenage pregnancy rates have varied, but in many countries they remain considerably high, making this problem an urgent social issue. A qualitative study was conducted with the aim of analysing teenage pregnancy as a social problem in science, its repercussions, and the solutions proposed to mitigate its incidence. Empirical (documentary analysis) and theoretical (analytical-synthetic, inductive-deductive, historical-logical analysis, systems approach) methods were used to carry out the research. Teenage pregnancy is a complex social problem involving multiple dimensions, from physical and mental health to education and economics. It is imperative to address this phenomenon with an approach that includes comprehensive sex education, social support, and public health policies tailored to the specific needs of adolescent girls. The educational strategy designed must be multidisciplinary, culturally sensitive, inclusive, and focused on strengthening personal and social capacities for the effective prevention of teenage pregnancy. The future of adolescent girls facing unplanned pregnancies depends on collaboration between governments, educators, health professionals, and communities
Educación superior de calidad: trascendencia e impactos con perspectiva de innovación y sostenibilidad
Higher Education Institutions in countries take on the challenge of continuing to advance in the management of their main university training processes. This could not materialize if they move away from innovative perspectives, approaches and conceptions that promote a culture of quality in university communities as a result of such work. Universities currently focus their management to achieve greater emphasis in their processes and substantive functions, as well as to promote the required impact. Society values the prevailing need for institutions to be accountable for their management, taking into account the processes and contributions they make, as well as the services they provide with the highest quality standards required. The use of theoretical, empirical and statistical-mathematical methods made it possible to systematize learning and good evaluation practices.
