    Join Execution Using Fragmented Columnar Indices on GPU and MIC

    The paper describes an approach to the parallel natural join execution on computing clusters with GPU and MIC Coprocessors. This approach is based on a decomposition of natural join relational operator using the column indices and domain-interval fragmentation. This decomposition admits parallel executing the resource-intensive relational operators without data transfers. All column index fragments are stored in main memory. To process the join of two relations, each pair of index fragments corresponding to particular domain interval is joined on a separate processor core. Described approach allows efficient parallel query processing for very large databases on modern computing cluster systems with many-core accelerators. A prototype of the DBMS coprocessor system was implemented using this technique. The results of computational experiments for GPU and Xeon Phi are presented.     Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy (NVP) is not just 'Morning Sickness' : data from a prospective cohort study

    Background: Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy is usually called ‘morning sickness’. This is felt by sufferers to trivialise the condition. Symptoms have been described as occurring both before and after noon, but daily symptom patterns have not been clearly described and statistically modelled to enable the term ‘morning sickness’ to be accurately analysed. Aim: To describe the daily variation in nausea and vomiting symptoms during early pregnancy in a group of sufferers. Design and setting: A prospective cohort study of females recruited from 15 May 2014 to 17 February 2017 by Swiss Precision Diagnostics (SPD) Development Company Limited, which was researching hormone levels in early pregnancy and extended its study to include the description of pregnancy symptoms. Method: Daily symptom diaries of nausea and vomiting were kept by females who were trying to conceive. They also provided daily urine samples, which when analysed enabled the date of ovulation to be determined. Data from 256 females who conceived during the first month of the study are included in this article. Daily symptom patterns and changes in daily patterns by week of pregnancy were modelled. Functional data analysis was used to produce estimated symptom probability functions. Results: There was a peak probability of nausea in the morning, a lower but sustained probability of nausea throughout the day, and a slight peak in the evening. Vomiting had a defined peak incidence in the morning. Conclusion: Referring to nausea and vomiting in pregnancy as simply ‘morning sickness’ is inaccurate, simplistic, and therefore unhelpful

    Physical fitness is one of the basic needs of human life. Physical fitness means being able to do things daily without feeling tired. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between motor fitness and physical fitness of karate athletes with their physiological characteristics. This research was a kind of relationship and using descriptive and inferential statistics has been attempted to investigate the relationship between motor movement and physical fitness or physiological resting heart rate, heart rate after exercise (Harvard step) and vo2max karate. Data analysis was performed using Pearson statistical method at a significant level of p <0.05 and using SPSS software version 22. The end result of the research is the proof of this hypothesis, one of the success codes in Karate, is better preparedness and more favorable in motor movement and physical fitness readings and physiological variables.La aptitud física es una de las necesidades básicas de la vida humana. La aptitud física significa poder hacer cosas diariamente sin sentirse cansado. El propósito de este estudio fue investigar la relación entre el estado física motor y la condición física de los atletas de karate con sus características fisiológicas. Esta investigación fue un tipo de relación y mediante el uso de estadísticas descriptivas e inferenciales, se intentó investigar la relación entre el movimiento motor y la condición física o la frecuencia cardíaca fisiológica en reposo, la frecuencia cardíaca después del ejercicio (paso de Harvard) y el vo2max. El análisis de los datos se realizó utilizando el método estadístico Pearson a un nivel significativo de p <0.05 y utilizando el software SPSS versión 22. El resultado final de la investigación es la prueba de esta hipótesis, uno de los códigos de éxito en el Karate, es una mejor preparación y más favorable en el movimiento motor y lecturas de aptitud física y variables fisiológicas.A aptidão física é uma das necessidades básicas da vida humana. Aptidão física significa ser capaz de fazer coisas diariamente sem se sentir cansado. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar a relação entre o estado físico motor e a condição física de atletas de karatê com suas características fisiológicas. Esta investigação foi um tipo de relação e através do uso de estatística descritiva e inferencial, procurou-se investigar a relação entre movimento motor e condição física ou frequência cardíaca fisiológica em repouso, freqüência cardíaca após exercício (degrau de Harvard) e o vo2max. A análise dos dados foi realizada utilizando o método estatístico de Pearson em nível significativo de p <0,05 e utilizando o software SPSS versão 22.
