A cubic defining algebra for the Links-Gould polynomial

We define a finite-dimensional cubic quotient of the group algebra of the braid group, endowed with a (essentially unique) Markov trace which affords the Links-Grould invariant of knots and links. We investigate several of its properties, and state several conjectures about its structure

    Improving Communication in Scrum Teams

Communication in teams is an important but difficult issue. In a Scrum development process, we use the Daily Scrum meetings to inform others about important problems, news and events in the project. When persons are absent due to holiday, illness or travel, they miss relevant information because there is no document that protocols the content of these meetings. We present a concept and a Twitter-like tool that improves communication in a Scrum development process. We take advantage out of the observation that many people do not like to create documentation but they do like to share what they did. We used the tool in industrial practice and observed an improvement in communication

Poster: Communication in Open-Source Projects--End of the E-mail Era?

Communication is essential in software engineering. Especially in distributed open-source teams, communication needs to be supported by channels including mailing lists, forums, issue trackers, and chat systems. Yet, we do not have a clear understanding of which communication channels stakeholders in open-source projects use. In this study, we fill the knowledge gap by investigating a statistically representative sample of 400 GitHub projects. We discover the used communication channels by regular expressions on project data. We show that (1) half of the GitHub projects use observable communication channels; (2) GitHub Issues, e-mail addresses, and the modern chat system Gitter are the most common channels; (3) mailing lists are only in place five and have a lower market share than all modern chat systems combined.Comment: 2 pages. To appear as a poster in 40th International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE 2018) Companion proceeding

Latentnaja struktura nekotoryh elementov tehniki v sportivnoj gimnastike

The sample of 195 subjects served to analyze the latent structure of 18 elements of technique performed in all disciplines of gymnastics. The component analysis was used, and the initial orthogonal solution reduced after the PB-criterion, was transformed into the oblimin position. The system of 18 elements of techniques was efficiently reduced to two latent dimension: - the first oblimin factor was named as the motor stereotype responsible for realization of gymnastics movement structures in the hang position and for the change of these positions; - the second oblimin factor was named as the motor stereotype responsible for realization of gymnastics movement structures in support position and for the change these positions

Use of Several Natural Products from Selected \u3cem\u3eNicotiana\u3c/em\u3e Species to Prevent Black Shank Disease in Tobacco

Black shank is a major annual disease threat to all types of tobacco worldwide. It is caused by the fungus Phytophthora parasitica var. nicotianae (PPN). The major tobacco growing areas in US - Kentucky, Tennessee and North Carolina can experience devastating losses, reaching in some fields up to 100%. Thus far, the main approaches to control this disease have been creation of resistant varieties, fungicide treatments, and crop rotation. Some fungicides are reported to have negative effects on the environment. The goal of this work was to test the antifungal activity of several natural products that are synthesized by certain Nicotiana species, and secreted to the leaf surface. We hypothesized that phylloplanin, cis-abienol, labdenediol and sclareol can suppress PPN-race 0- and PPN-race 1-caused disease in Burley tobaccos KY 14 and MS KY 14 × L8LC in the greenhouse. We developed methods for leaf surface extraction, spore preparation and soil drench application of the natural compounds tested. Experiments were performed on 5–8 week-old greenhouse grown seedlings. cis-Abienol showed high inhibitory properties toward the disease. Race 0 infection was completely subdued in KY 14 while race 1 infection was reduced by 70–80%, and delayed by 6–10 days in KY 14 and MS KY14 × L8LC. Sclareol was very effective in inhibiting race 0-caused disease in both tobacco cultivars. In MS KY 14 × L8LC race 1 infection was inhibited while in KY 14 it was reduced by 85% and delayed by 6 days. Labdenediol reduced the disease by half in eight week-old KY 14 plants. Tobacco phylloplanin reduced plant infection by both races by 50–60% and delayed the disease by 6–10 days. Phylloplanin was least suppressive in both tobacco cultivars. We consider sclareol to be the best candidate for future studies due to its antifungal properties and availability. cis-Abienol, despite its good antifungal activity, is not feasible for large-scale use due to the production and stability limitations

Dynamic formation of oriented patches in chondrocyte cell cultures

Growth factors have a significant impact not only on the growth dynamics but also on the phenotype of chondrocytes (Barbero etal. in J. Cell. Phys. 204:830-838, 2005). In particular, as chondrocytes approach confluence, the cells tend to align and form coherent patches. Starting from a mathematical model for fibroblast populations at equilibrium (Mogilner etal. in Physica D 89:346-367, 1996), a dynamic continuum model with logistic growth is developed. Both linear stability analysis and numerical solutions of the time-dependent nonlinear integro-partial differential equation are used to identify the key parameters that lead to pattern formation in the model. The numerical results are compared quantitatively to experimental data by extracting statistical information on orientation, density and patch size through Gabor filter
