City Branding and multicultural studies: a study of the inhabitants' image of Cuernavaca, Mexico using a quantitative approach and online surveys
Cuernavaca has always hold a positive image as a touristic destination and a good place to raise your children, however this has changed in the last decade. Drug war and corruption have made of Cuernavaca one of the most dangerous cities in Mexico. The local government has focused on trying to fix Cuernavaca's image for national and international tourists but has forgotten of its inhabitants. On this study we focused on this group: the people living in Cuernavaca for more than ten years and we found that the image hold by them and the image projected by the government are opposite. Here we present an insight of Cuernavaca's inhabitants thoughts and feelings regarding their city and how the government can use this information to work on better public policies so the projected and perceived image of Mexico internally and externally will be more positive and consistent
The Future of European Agriculture - An Updated Outlook
This paper reports the results of a European agricultural outlook exercise that updates former studies in three ways, i.e. in terms of timeframes, spatial coverage and policy context. This updated European agricultural outlook constitutes a key component of the forthcoming 'State of the Environment and Outlook report' of the European Environment Agency (EEA). Both activity variables and environmental indicators are reported for a baseline projection and alternative scenarios. The main findings include the following: European harvested land is expected to continue to be primarily used to fodder activities and production of cereals (80% of total area); yields increase is projected to be the main source of production growth in Europe over the next 20 years; environmental pressures are expected to significantly increase in the New Member States, as a result primarily of considerable increase in fertilizers use.agricultural outlook, European agricultural policy, environment, Agribusiness, C61, Q18, Q21,
Departing from thermality of analogue Hawking radiation in a Bose-Einstein condensate
We study the quantum fluctuations in a one dimensional Bose-Einstein
condensate realizing an analogous acoustic black hole. The taking into account
of evanescent channels and of zero modes makes it possible to accurately
reproduce recent experimental measurements of the density correlation function.
We discuss the determination of Hawking temperature and show that in our model
the analogous radiation presents some significant departure from thermality
Liveness Analysis in Explicitly-Parallel Programs
International audienceIn this paper, we revisit scalar and array element-wise liveness analysis for programs with parallel specifications. In earlier work on memory allocation/contraction (register allocation or intra- and inter-array reuse in the polyhedral model), a notion of ``time'' or a total order among the iteration points was used to compute the liveness of values. In general, the execution of parallel programs is not a total order, and hence the notion of time is not applicable. We first revise how conflicts are computed by using ideas from liveness analysis for register allocation, studying the structure of the corresponding conflict/interference graphs. Instead of considering the conflict between two live ranges, we only consider the conflict between a live range and a write. This simplifies the formulation from having four instances involved in the test down to three, and also improves the precision of the analysis in the general case. Then we extend the liveness analysis to work with partial orders so that it can be applied to many different parallel languages/specifications with different forms of parallelism. An important result is that the complement of the conflict graph with partial orders is directly connected to memory reuse, even in presence of races. However, programs with conditionals do not always define a partial order, and our next step will be to handle such cases with more accuracy
Athlete burnout and motivational dynamics: a multiple case follow-up study among elite BMX riders
Aim of the study: The objective of the current study was to identify the motivational dynamics and the changes in the levels of burnout experienced among elite BMX riders during a competitive season. Methods: Data were collected each week during 32 weeks, among three BMX riders from an elite training structure. Paired sample t-tests were used to compare the means of each training phase two by two for each rider. Cohen’s d effect sizes were calculated to determine if changes noted between phases were meaningful for the data. Findings: The results of the current study reinforced the hypothesis that burnout is (a) a process that develops over time (Dale & Weinberg, 1990), (b) a multidimensional syndrome (Raedeke & Smith, 2001) and (c) a process with inter-individual differences (Dale & Weinberg, 1990)
Dispersionless evolution of inviscid nonlinear pulses
We consider the one-dimensional dynamics of nonlinear non-dispersive waves.
The problem can be mapped onto a linear one by means of the hodograph
transform. We propose an approximate scheme for solving the corresponding
Euler-Poisson equation which is valid for any kind of nonlinearity. The
approach is exact for monoatomic classical gas and agrees very well with exact
results and numerical simulations for other systems. We also provide a simple
and accurate determination of the wave breaking time for typical initial
conditions
