Breeding Programme Development of Bali Cattle at Bali Breeding Centre

    Get PDF
Growth performance of Bali cattle has been a major concern especially in the character of body weight at a certain age, birth weight and weaning weight.  Efforts to increase the quality of the performance of Bali cattle have been carried out by the government by forming P3Bali. In the activities of quality improvement, the government is guided by the breeding program which has been prepared. To strengthen these activities further, the breeding program has been modified based on weaning weight data for 10 years (1994-2004). Data were analyzed using the VCE and PEST to estimate the components of genetic variance and covariance. The breeding program was set up based on the results of the accuracy of some methods of selection. The results showed that the ratio of male to female optimum (1:5) would increase the selection response per generation about 53.08 percent. Selection responses were obtained when males were maintained for three years and females over six years in the population. Former researchers found that there are differences of shape, cap size, motility ability, age, electricity and chemical characters between Y and X chromosome bearing sperm. Y sperm moves f aster, has smaller size but shorter life time within f emale reproduction tract. In opposite, X sperm is 3% fatter and has more round shape. Concerning its bigger shape, X sperm moves slower, but has longer life time in f emale reproductive tract. Based on that matter, this research was conducted to find out the sex of born calves depend on insemination time, early to inseminate, best time to inseminate and late to insem.inate. This research used 40 head of cows, divided by four groups; each group consists of 10 head. Control group was inseminated by sexed semen, first, second, third and forth group was inseminated by unsexing semen, respectively on early, the best and late time of insemination. Successfully pregnancy was obtained from the best time insemination, both by sexing and unsexing semen. While born calves sex were not significant different, meant almost the same, from. both semen. Research result showed insemination by both sexing and unsexing semen which was done in early time to inseminate will tend yield female calve

Karakterisasi Growth Differentiantion Factor 9 (GDF 9) pada Oosit Sapi yang Dikoleksi dari Folikel Preantral dengan Metode Dotblotting

    Get PDF
The main purpose of this research was to know the character of Growth Differentiation Factor-9(GDF-9) protein isolated from bovine oocyte, collected from preantral follicle. Bovine ovary that was collected from slaughter house washed with NaCl. To collect oocyte from preantral follicle we use aspiration technique. The GDF-9 protein was isolated from oocyte and used for producing the antibody for dotblotting method. The rabbits which had been injected by GDF-9 antigen (immunization) was bleed every week to getthe blood serum and five week after immunization, the rabbits had boosted again and continued to bleed until10 week. The antibody anti-GDF-9 from the rabbits blood serum was reacted with GDF-9 antigen that had been identified with western blotting method. The dot-blot result showed that the intensity of dot color had increased significantly from bleeding III (five week after injected with antigen GDF-9) and reach the highest titer of antibody at bleeding IX. It’s mean that GDF-9 protein from bovine oocyte which collected frompreantral follicle can be characterized with dotblotting method and the highest titer antibody showed at bleeding I

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of aflatoxin contaminated feed given for 40 days on the anatomy and histopathology of the thymus of laying hens in the starter phase. A total of 36 DOC laying hens were divided into two groups (P0 and P1). P0 (control group) was given 100% basal starter feed CP 521 and P1 (treatment group) was given 80% basal feed CP 524 plus 20% aflatoxin contaminated feed. Feeding contaminated with aflatoxin was carried out for 40 days, starting on the 20th to the 60th day after the DOC of laying hens was adapted for 20 days. The time of surgery in this study was carried out on the 20th, 40th, and 60th days, where at each surgery time the thymus organ was taken to collect weight data and histopathological preparations were made. The thymus weights based on time showed a significant decrease, but the intergroup thymus weights did not show a significant decrease. The decrease in thymus weight is caused by the involution process. Microscopic observations based on increased cell debris and congestion showed that P0 did not show a significant difference, but P1 showed a significant difference (p>0.05) on the 40th and 60th days. The conclusion in this study was that as much as 20% of feed contaminated with aflatoxins had not affected changes in thymus weight but had shown damage to the histopathological structure of the thymus

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of adding the concentration of turmeric flour and fish oil to the quail formula feed. This research is an experimental study using the factorial method. This experiment used 96 quail (Cortunix cortunix japonica), which were randomized into 6 treatments with 4 replications. Quails were divided into 6 groups and treated with different concentrations of turmeric flour and fish oil in each feed formula. The effects of different formula feeds were observed on changes in egg production and organoleptic changes. Egg production data were taken every day from week 3 to week 4 during the treatment period. The data taken is called Quail Day Production (QDP%). The organoleptic data of eggs were taken at the 3rd week of treatment and the preference test was carried out by 40 panelists on the aroma, taste and level of preference of quail eggs after being boiled. The addition of 0.3% turmeric flour significantly affected egg production but its combination with fish oil did not affect egg production. The combination of the concentration of turmeric flour and fish oil does not change the aroma of the eggs, but changes the taste of the eggs
