In designing such a product or thing for human use, the 'human factor' is the important element that must put in consideration. One of the things that regularly used by human being to sit is chair. Ergonomic or human factor in the design is a must because the sitting posture has been applied by human whether during learning, eating, in the transport or even in the workstation. The suitability of each chair is depending on the circumstances or situation needed by its user. Research had shown that human product that can be adjustable following to the situation, is a product that consider more about the ergonomics terms. According to the development, the chair design can withstand load of 90kg and the hanger part at the chair can withstand 15kg load, after being analyzed by computer software. The development during the project is to fulfill the learning objective that to produce the frame of chair with adjistable flip table, with using low cost according to the human factor terms. The variety of applications from the project can be use to produce a product based on human factor

ADC production testing has become more challenging due to more stringent test procedure for new generation of ADC. The trend for silicon cost is going down while the cost of test is going up. Therefore, to reduce the cost of test and preserve the test accuracy is essential for high volume testing in production. This research is conducted for accurate ADC testing using histogram methodologies. Histogram methodology is the most common test procedure used in high volume production testing. In the past there were a lot of studies on testing the ADC but there were no emphasizing on various histogram methodologies for high volume testing. This research objective is to develop test solutions for 28nm 10 bit ADC using histogram methodologies. The outcome from this research has clearly shows that the test program that has been developed is able to segregate the good and bad devices. 98.18% of the devices are able to pass the ADC testing while remaining 1.82% fail the ADC test. It was found that Ramp Histogram and Sinusoidal Histogram method has achieved this research objective as both methodologies shows similar result based on comparison that has been made. It was known that accurate ADC testing requires large sample size. This research found that multi-site testing was able to compensate the drawback in histogram methodologies. The result shows that multi-site testing is 63.72% more efficient in term of ADC testing time

Scheduled liberalization of trade preferences under the World Trade Organisation and the Asean Free Trade Area has heightened the challenges faced by the Malaysian food producers. To penetrate a wider range of markets, Malaysian food processors have to identify food sub-sectors that are internationally competitive. These sub-sectors should not only withstand internal shocks but also external shocks such as the financial crisis in 1997. This article examines the levels of benefit-cost ratios for various productions of food products to analyze the comparative advantages before and after the 1997 financial crisis. The competitiveness of the food processing industry in Malaysia was determined using the Domestic Resource Cost (DRC) method. Twenty food sectors were assessed using the Malaysian food production and trade data from 1985 to 2001. Processed foods with a high comparative advantage sustained after the crisis can be considered as viable to compete with foreign products in domestic and overseas markets. Meat products in import substitutions, palm oil, kernel oil, sago and tapioca, and cocoa in traditional exports and fish products in emerging exports are examples of food sub-sectors that are gaining competitiveness in the post crisis period

Consistency tests of comparative advantage measures: an empirical evidence from the Malaysian and selected Asian shrimp products

    Get PDF
The aim of this study is to examine the consistency between the Balassa index and Vollrath indices in measuring comparative advantages of the Malaysian shrimp products with other major shrimp exporting nations as comparator. The study uses Balassa index and Vollrath indices to measure comparative advantages of the Malaysian shrimp products. The indices then are compared by consistency tests. Malaysia was generally not competitive in shrimp trade; however, revealed comparative advantage (RCA) and relative export advantage (RXA) indices show some extent of competitiveness on non-frozen shrimp product. Thailand had a remarkable competitiveness in shrimp trade as compared to other major exporting countries. Although we found that double-counting problem in the Balassa index is insignificant in measuring export performance of the Malaysian shrimp sector, import could be an important variable in accessing its trade competitiveness. Marginal import of a sector may lead to relative trade advantage (RTA) index consistent with RCA and RXA indices. Considering exports and imports of a particular commodity in measuring competitiveness is more consistent with the real world phenomenon of two-way trade. Selecting measurement of comparative advantage should rigorously base on trade behaviour of a sector as well as theoretical constructs. The competitiveness of the Malaysian shrimp products remains unclear due to the lack of contemporary analyses backed by formal testing procedures. The results and policy implications of this study provide stakeholders insights into comparative advantage as well as trade position of the products. Better measurement for revealed comparative advantage, particularly for shrimp products, is discussed in this paper

Bivariate causality between exchange rates and stock prices in Malaysia

    Get PDF
The main purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between stock prices and exchange rates in Malaysia. This research considers high-frequency data of USD-MYR exchange rates and Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLSE) from July 22, 2005 to March 23, 2007, which is the period when the MYR was unpegged. The Johansen cointegration method suggests that there is no long-run equilibrium relationship between these two financial variables. Both Engle Granger and Toda-Yamamoto causality tests find that there is uni-directional causality running from stock prices to exchange rates
