Five Quantum Algorithms Using Quipper
Quipper is a recently released quantum programming language. In this report,
we explore Quipper's programming framework by implementing the Deutsch's,
Deutsch-Jozsa's, Simon's, Grover's, and Shor's factoring algorithms. It will
help new quantum programmers in an instructive manner. We choose Quipper
especially for its usability and scalability though it's an ongoing development
project. We have also provided introductory concepts of Quipper and
prerequisite backgrounds of the algorithms for readers' convenience. We also
have written codes for oracles (black boxes or functions) for individual
algorithms and tested some of them using the Quipper simulator to prove
correctness and introduce the readers with the functionality. As Quipper 0.5
does not include more than \ensuremath{4 \times 4} matrix constructors for
Unitary operators, we have also implemented \ensuremath{8 \times 8} and
\ensuremath{16 \times 16} matrix constructors.Comment: 27 page
Marketing System and Market Integration of Different Egg Markets in Bangladesh
The objectives of the study were to estimate costs and margins, seasonal price variation and to test market integration of egg. Primary and secondary data were used for this study. The higher marketing cost was incurred by aratdars and the lowest by retailer. On the other hand, retailers earned the highest net marketing margins. Analysis of market integration shows that egg market in Bangladesh was well integrated. The study identified some problems related to economic, technical, marketing, social and natural calamities aspects and suggested some measures for solving these problems. Simulated Conflict Based Safety Evaluation Models for Hetergenous Traffic in Controlled Intersections
In this paper, an attempt is made to investigate how traffic conflicts identified from microsimulation models can be correlated with explanatory variables which have been traditionally used in accident prediction models. In developing countries with heterogenous traffic streams, availability of accident data is limited especially since accidents are rare events. Such traffic streams normally have some unique attributes like absence of lane discipline, presence of non-motorized vehicles. In urban intersections with such slow-moving traffic streams, conflicts are more useful determinants of intersection safety rather than previous records of accidents since geometry of intersection may be changed from the time to time. Simulated conflict-based safety evaluation models were developed for intersections of Dhaka city. The intersections were modeled in VISSIM after suitable calibration, for 8 hours of peak hour traffic. Surrogate Safety Assessment Model (SSAM) was used to identify the corresponding simulated hourly conflicts from the resulting trajectory files. It was found that hourly simulated conflicts had a significant statistical relationship with observed hourly traffic volume entering the intersection from major and minor roads. Computer Simulation of Current Forces on Motion of Floating Production Storage and Offloading in Irregular Waves
This paper presents the effect of current forces on the motion of forces on Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) in irregular waves. The objective of this research is to compute the motion of FPSO in irregular waves by time domain simulation including the effect of current forces. A study is made on the slowly varying oscillations of a moored single body system in a current and waves. Linear potential theory is used to describe the fluid motion, and three-dimensional source distribution techniques are applied to obtain the hydrodynamic forces and transfer function of the wave exciting forces. OCIMF (1994) data are used for estimation of the current forces. The non-linear time domain simulations have been carried out in irregular waves. Based on it, slowly varying motion responses are examined including the effect of the current forces. Several environmental conditions, such as the current angle of attack, current velocity, significant wave height and mean wave period are considered, which may significantly affect FPSO motion in surge, sway and yaw moments. It is found that the effect of current forces is quite significant when the current velocity is increased. In this simulation, while the current velocity is increased to 3.0 meter/seconds, the impact on FPSO motion is quite significant, which should be taken into consideration from the point of view of safety, failure of mooring systems, operating responses and the dynamic positioning of the FPSO
Use of Discourse Markers by Chinese EFL Professors: A Corpus-Based Study of Academic Lectures by Natives and Non-natives
This paper reports a study that examines the use of discourse markers (DMs) by non-native professors of English in China and compares their use with their counter parts, native professors of English. In this study, six DMs: ‘so, and, but, ok, well and right’ are specifically analyzed as these DMs appear most frequently among the talk of native and non-native professors. Fifteen lectures of five native and non-native professors were recorded and transcribed to build a small corpus of linguistic lectures. The results show that there is good deal of discrepancy in the functional use of DMs by the Chinese professors. Although, non-natives have acquired the use of some DMs like ‘so’, and ‘and’, their use of these DMs is limited and lacks pragmatic functions. Mostly, other DMs like ‘ok, well and right’ are inappropriately used in the talks of Chinese professors. We have studied the professors with highly advanced language skills but the results confirm the previous research which demonstrates that non-native learners of English have limited proficiency in the use of DMs. Based upon the findings; we provide some implications for second language learning in general, and for foreign language teaching in particular. Measuring the performance of Islamic banks using maqāsid based model
The vision and mission of Islamic banks were supposed to reflect the adherence of their activities and aspiration to Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah. However, there are contentions that Islamic banks have been converging towards conventional banking system. Efforts have been expended to reverse the tide and harmonise Islamic banking to its Sharī‘ah objectives. Hitherto,the existing conventional yardsticks have failed to measure the impact of the harmonisation exercise on Islamic banks’ performance. Therefore, using
maqāṣid based yardstick to measure the performance of Islamic banks becomes imperative. This study has made use of al-Imām al-Ghazālī’s theory of Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah and Ibn ‘Āshūr’s reinterpretation, adopting content analysis and Sekaran (2000) behavioral science methods to develop a Maqāṣid Based Performance Evaluation Model (MPEM) to measure the performance of Islamic banks. Experts’ opinions have validated the model and its acceptability. Suggestions are provided to policy makers and future research.

Recent Progress in Electrical Generators for Oceanic Wave Energy Conversion
Oceanic wave energy extraction through electrical generator is one of the most interesting topics in the field of power engineering. Almost all the existing relevant review paper focus on electrical generator with the working principle of electromagnetic induction or piezoelectric or triboelectric effect. In this paper, all the existing types (based on principle of operation) of electrical generator used for wave power harvesting are discussed. This paper not only covers recent progress in electrical power generation by electro-magnetic induction, piezoelectric generator, and electrostatic induction, but also presents critical comparative review as well where suitable use and weakness of each type of generators are discussed. Moreover, the application of advanced magnetic core, winding, and permanent magnets are discussed with extensive explanation which are not focused in the existing reviews. Various new constructional features of the electrical generators such as split translator flux switching, two-point absorber, triangular coil, dual port linear generator, piezoelectric, triboelectric nanogenerator, etc. are highlighted with principles of operation. It also includes emerging human intervened optimization method for determining optimum shape of generator and cooling system which is necessary to prevent demagnetization of the permanent magnet. Finally, the way of supply the generated electrical power form the generator to load/grid is thoroughly described in a separate section that would be obvious for successful operation. The comparison among all types of generators in terms of output voltage, current, scale of power production, power-frequency characteristics, power density, cascading, and approaches are tabulated in this paper
Comprehensive study on fault-ride through and voltage support by wind power generation in ac and dc transmission systems
This study exploits the impact of different low voltage ride-through (LVRT) methods and equipment on both the wind energy elements and the grid including wind turbine/farm ability to provide reactive compensation and maintain controllability during faults. The potential of using SFCL as an alternative LVRT equipment is preliminary studied. The study also exploits some severe scenarios that could face a multi-terminal high-voltage DC (HVDC) network. The influences of AC faults and control errors are examined. Results show limited deviations between the adopted LVRT methods. The wind turbine has to contribute to the stability of the AC collection grid of the wind farm, but it does not influence the grid, as both are decoupled through the multi-terminal HVDC grid. Decent Work and Inclusive Economic Growth: Bangladesh Perspective
The study has made an effort to analyze the performance of Bangladesh economy in line with the decent work and inclusive economic growth target of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the period of 2015 to 2019 and to identify the challenges of achieving decent work for all by 2030. Bangladesh has ranked 109th among the 166 countries and moved seven notches up from 116th of 2019 in the SDGs Index 2020. Analyzing the International Labour Organization (ILO) modeled estimated data on the decent work indicators like labour force participation rate, employment to population ratio, unemployment rate, youth unemployment, informal employment, child labour and employment in agriculture, industry and service sector, the study reveals that the high youth unemployment, informality in the job market, mismatch between demand and supply of skilled labour, less female participation in the labour force, insufficient investment, participation of child and forced labour in hazardous work, etc. are the major hindrance for ensuring decent work for all. Skill development programs, large scale investment, products diversification, good governance, elimination of child and forced labour from hazardous work, etc. may help to create more employment opportunities, decent work environment as well as inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Bangladesh.
