In the current business environment employees in the banking sector face multitude challenges and obstacles in their daily jobs. These threats offer unique challenges for the management to manage their organizations well. The challenges that take place in banking organization will affect the employees in one way or another. As such, employees might be faced with conflict due to challenges such as differing needs, beliefs, values and goals among group members in the organization. The purpose of this study is to determine the conflict management strategies adopted by private commercial banks in Bangladesh through the application of Thomas-Kilmann’s conflict handling model. Conflict is a common occurrence in organizations. Conflict occurs for various reasons in banking sector. The managers must be able to understand why and when conflict arises and in what situation conflict frequently occurs.  Employees have different perspective for choosing different conflict management strategies. Descriptive research design was used in the study. Data were collected from 50 respondents from 5 private commercial banks in Bangladesh. Questionnaire was used as main data collection instruments. The data collected from the field were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques such as percentages and frequencies. The findings of the study suggested that the private commercial banks in Bangladesh use all the five conflict management strategies of Thomas-Kilmann model such as avoiding, competing, accommodating, compromising and collaborating. But the strategy that was most frequently used is collaborating strategy. Collaborating in conflict management means trying to find the best solution for all parties involved. When several parties collaborate to resolve a conflict, they openly express their concerns and work to find a mutually beneficial solution. Collaboration leads to creative problem-solving and respect amongst coworkers in an organization. This style finds the root of a problem, such as personal conflicts, and attends to the situation in the least confrontational manner of any conflict-management style. But in other hand collaborative efforts tend to take the most time compared to other conflict resolution styles as in this style both parties try to solve their problem. As banking sector of Bangladesh is highly competitive, the employees may focus on long term relationship while resolve conflict. Recommendation also made focusing on management as well as employee role for effective conflict handling. collaborative workplace culture and responsive management can play very crucial role in this regard. Keywords: Conflict management, collaborating, compromising, avoiding, accommodating and competing. JEL Codes: M1

Prior information about a financial market is very essential for investor to invest money on parches share from the stock market which can strengthen the economy. The study examines the relative ability of various models to forecast daily stock indexes future volatility. The forecasting models that employed from simple to relatively complex ARCH-class models. It is found that among linear models of stock indexes volatility, the moving average model ranks first using root mean square error, mean absolute percent error, Theil-U and Linex loss function criteria. We also examine five nonlinear models. These models are ARCH, GARCH, EGARCH, TGARCH and restricted GARCH models. We find that nonlinear models failed to dominate linear models utilizing different error measurement criteria and moving average model appears to be the best. Then we forecast the next two months future stock index price volatility by the best (moving average) model

Background: While 2% of all extranodal Non-Hodgkin Lymphomas present in the thyroid, there exists insufficient data to describe the incidence of mantle cell lymphoma in the thyroid. A case series of 1400 patients revealed that \u3c 1% of thyroid lymphomas may be MCL; hence better understanding of the disease course is essential. Patient Findings: A 65-year-old female was referred for a multinodular goiter. Multiple fine needle aspirations from the dominant right nodule were consistent with Hashimoto\u27s thyroiditis and flow cytometry was negative. Due to progressing dysphagia, she underwent total thyroidectomy. Summary: Pathology revealed MCL with mantle zone growth pattern in the right thyroid. Flow cytometry showed monoclonal B cells comprising 9% of total cells. The Ki-67 index was 10%. She was diagnosed as having stage IIE MCL and offered conservative management by medical oncology, given that she had no B symptoms. Conclusion: Though chemotherapy is the treatment of choice in MCL, a subset of patients with low-grade disease may be observed. As in our patient, mantle zone growth pattern and a Ki-67 index \u3c 10% suggest a favorable prognosis. A diagnosis of primary MCL in the thyroid remains rare and staging modalities as well as treatment options continue to evolve

Challenges in Moving Toward a More Inclusive Democracy: Findings from the 2022 American Values Survey

Approximately three-quarters of Americans agree that the country is heading in the wrong direction, but there is considerable division over whether the country needs to move backward — toward an idealized, homogeneous past — or forward, toward a more diverse future. Though most Americans favor moving forward, a sizable minority yearn for a country reminiscent of the 1950s, embrace the idea that God created America to be a new promised land for European Christians, view newcomers as a threat to American culture, and believe that society has become too soft and feminine. This minority is composed primarily of self-identified Republicans, white evangelical Protestants, and white Americans without a college degree. The majority of Americans, however, especially younger Americans, the religiously unaffiliated, and Democrats, are more likely to embrace a competing vision for the future of America that is more inclusive

Image sensors are generating limitless digital images every day. Image forgery like splicing and copy-move are very common type of attacks that are easy to execute using sophisticated photo editing tools. As a result, digital forensics has attracted much attention to identify such tampering on digital images. In this paper, a passive (blind) image tampering identification method based on Discrete Cosine Transformation (DCT) and Local Binary Pattern (LBP) has been proposed. First, the chroma components of an image is divided into fixed sized non-overlapping blocks and 2D block DCT is applied to identify the changes due to forgery in local frequency distribution of the image. Then a texture descriptor, LBP is applied on the magnitude component of the 2D-DCT array to enhance the artifacts introduced by the tampering operation. The resulting LBP image is again divided into non-overlapping blocks. Finally, summations of corresponding inter-cell values of all the LBP blocks are computed and arranged as a feature vector. These features are fed into a Support Vector Machine (SVM) with Radial Basis Function (RBF) as kernel to distinguish forged images from authentic ones. The proposed method has been experimented extensively on three publicly available well-known image splicing and copy-move detection benchmark datasets of color images. Results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method over recently proposed state-of-the-art approaches in terms of well accepted performance metrics such as accuracy, area under ROC curve and others.2018 International Conference on Digital Image Computing: Techniques and Applications, DICTA 201

‘Khoyer’ is prepared by boiling the wood of Acacia catechu in water and then evaporating the resultant brew. The resultant hard material is powdered and chewed with betel leaves and lime with or without tobacco by a large number of the people of Bangladesh as an addictive psycho-stimulating and euphoria-inducing formulation. There are folk medicinal claims that khoyer helps in the relief of pain and is also useful to diabetic patients to maintain normal sugar levels. Thus far no scientific studies have evaluated the antihyperglycemic and antinociceptive effects of khoyer. The present study was carried out to evaluate the possible glucose tolerance efficacy of methanolic extracts of khoyer using glucose-induced hyperglycemic mice, and antinociceptive effects with acetic acid-induced gastric pain models in mice. In antihyperglycemic activity tests, the extract at different doses was administered one hour prior to glucose administration and blood glucose level was measured after two hours of glucose administration (p.o.) using glucose oxidase method. The statistical data indicated the significant oral hypoglycemic activity on glucose-loaded mice at all doses of the extracts tested. Maximum anti-hyperglycemic activity was shown at 400 mg extract per kg body weight, which was slightly less than that of a standard drug, glibenclamide (10 mg/kg body weight). In antinociceptive activity tests, the extract also demonstrated a dose-dependent significant reduction in the number of writhings induced in mice through intraperitoneal administration of acetic acid. Maximum antinociceptive activity was observed at a dose of 400 mg extract per kg body weight, which was greater than that of a standard antinociceptive drug, aspirin, when administered at a dose of 400 mg per kg body weight. The results validate the folk medicinal use of the plant for reduction of blood sugar in diabetic patients as well as the folk medicinal use for alleviation of pain

Background: Two-year survival rates for adult BL remain Methods: Twenty-five BL patients were enrolled. Patients had low-risk (LR) or high-risk (HR) disease; LR patients received 3 CODOX-M cycles, while HR had 4 alternating CODOX-M/IVAC cycles (Mead et al. Blood 2009). Rituximab (500mg/m2) was given x 2 doses each cycle. Correlative analyses of paired serum and CSF Rituximab levels were obtained for cycles 1+3 at 24+72 hours. Results: There were 20 HR and 5 LR patients and median age was 44 years (range, 23-70). 3 HR and 1 LR patient were HIV+, while 15% of HR patients had CNS disease. Additionally, 35% of HR patients had bulk \u3e10 cm and 40% had bone marrow involvement. Myelosuppression and mucositis appeared comparable with prior CODOX-M/IVAC data. The overall remission rate after 2 cycles was 100% with 67% complete remission. At 34-month median follow-up, 2-year PFS and OS rates for all patients were 86% and 86%, respectively (LR 2-year PFS and OS: both 100%; HR 2-year PFS and OS: both 82%). Further, the 2-year PFS and OS for HR, HIV-negative patients were 91% and 91%, respectively (disease-specific survival 100%). Two patients died from progressive disease (both HIV+ HR). The median serum and CSF rituximab levels for these patients were compared with patients without relapse (Table 1). Interestingly, cycle 1, 24-hour serum Rituximab levels were significantly higher among patients without relapse compared with the two patients who relapsed/died (P=0.042). Cycle 3, 24-hour Rituximab levels were of borderline significance (P=0.06). Conclusions: The integration of Rituximab into CODOX-M/IVAC was associated with excellent survival rates, especially for HIV-negative BL. Further investigation of the predictive value of serum Rituximab levels is warranted

Coaching has become an important approach to support self-management of patients with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in healthcare education. Studies conducted in European countries have emphasized the significance of formal coaching training in enhancing the competencies of healthcare students. However, in Southeast Asia, where NCDs pose a serious public health concern, there is a lack of such training opportunities. To address this issue, an exploratory pre and post study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the DigiCare educational intervention in improving clinical coaching skills. Nursing and medical students from six universities in Vietnam and Bangladesh were invited to participate. The intervention included both theoretical and practical classes with interactive methods and home assignments, with a total duration of over 10 contact hours. Pre- and post-intervention assessments were conducted using the Self-Efficacy and Performance in Self-management Support instrument, which was translated and culturally adapted to both countries. Statistical analysis showed a significant improvement in students’ overall competence scores from before (M = 2.6, SD = .67) to after the intervention (M = 3.05, SD = .55), with a medium effect size (p < .001; d = .73). The DigiCare educational intervention appears to be a low-cost and meaningful addition to the curriculum of both nursing and medical universities across countries, with potential benefits in the development of students’ clinical coaching competencies.O coaching tornou-se uma abordagem importante para apoiar a autogestão de pacientes com doenças não transmissíveis (DNTs) na educação em saúde.

In an aging society, healthcare professionals and students face increasing demands to actively involve patients in the decision-making process regarding their health conditions and lifestyles. Self-management support is considered a best practice that aligns with the patient-centered care paradigm in Bangladesh. However, there is currently no instrument available to assess healthcare professionals’ competencies in this field, particularly during their early education and training period. The aim of this study was to translate the Self Efficiency and Performance in Self-management Support (SEPSS) instrument into Bangla and validate its psychometric properties in a sample of undergraduate healthcare students in Bangladeshi higher education institutions. A cross-sectional study was conducted to assess the reliability, validity, and cultural appropriateness of the Bangla version of SEPSS-36 among 486 nursing and medical students. Confirmatory factor analysis was carried out using the chi-square model fit index (CMIN), comparative fit index (CFI), and Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) as fit indices. The internal consistency was estimated by the Cronbach alpha coefficient. The results indicate that the CMIN (2.658) and RMSEA (.058) values suggest that the sample data and hypothetical model are an acceptable fit in the analysis, with satisfactory CFI values (.895). The reliability for all SEPSS dimensions was acceptable. The Bangla version of the SEPSS questionnaire is a valid and reliable instrument that can assist healthcare educators and researchers in determining students’ competencies within this domain.
