    Madurese Typology and Characteristics Amelioration in Ahmad Sapardi's Short Story Pelean Klebun

    This article aims to identify Madurese typology and characteristics within the short story Pelean Klebun by focusing on lexicon “Keras” and “Pedas” to produce new meaning and perspective of Madurese typology and characteristics. This article uses model of Semiotics analysis by Charles Sanders Peirce as methodological process to identify and create a new meaning and perspective on Madurese. The result of the analysis is Madurese typology and characteristics are depicted in lexicon “Keras” and “Pedas”, and supposed to produce two perspectives within the short story. As conclusion,  “Keras” and “Pedas” undergo a process of amelioration textually within the short story and contextually within various researches about Madurese local wisdom that reflects Madurese typology and characteristics

    Can Alumnus of English Learner Remember Their English? A Case Study on Fldi Nurul Jadid

    This research attempts to explain a phenomenon that occurs psycholinguistics in everyday life, especially in the environment of English learner. The basic assumption is the English learner faces difficulties in producing English sentence orally, so that problems such as forgetting the language in producing the language could happen. The research will involve alumnus of English learners of English Language Institute LPBA Nurul Jadid domiciled in Jember. From the observations, there are approximately 86.7% of respondents admitted that they often run into problems in the production of English as second language. There are 60% of respondents admitted that they had experienced of forgetfulness in the production of English as second language in the level of the sentence. 80% in the level of words, 78.6% in the level of expression, and 71.4% in the level of the phrase. This study shows that forgetfulness in producing English has a neural factor that is the Short term Memory (STM) of the alumnus. They have difficulty in recalling the vocabularies in English

    Intellectuality and Artistic Aspect of Author in the Concept of Spinoza's Rationalism(Expressive-Typography on Indonesian New-Age Poem). Typography is a rarecourse in the study of literature. Sometimes, it is neglected. In this study, webelieved that all parts of literary work contained valuable marks that could benefithumans and the development of literary studies. Most studies commonly focusedon how an author used figurative language in his work, not typography. In thisstudy, we investigated and observed in nature intellectuality and aestheticpreference of Wiji Thukul in the construction of expressive poems on his own. Weused Spinoza's rationalism as an approach for this purpose. In our analysis, wefound that being a member of the democratic party contributed to thedevelopment of Wiji Thukul's intellectuality so that he could become more literateabout social reality, while the experience of being a poet, in any event, hadcontributed to his competence and aesthetic preference.     MENAKAR POTENSI NILAI KEARIFAN LOKAL DALAM SASTRA DAERAH

    Local literature has an important role in globalizing the value and local wisdom of a community. The goal is to preserve and spread benefits for human life. Madurese literature is one of the types of local literature that has developed. The development of Madurese literature that combines religious and social-social elements cannot be separated from the existence of Pesantren. This study aimed to examine the meaning, values, and local wisdom in Madurese literature based on the philosophy of objectivism. Hermeneutics was used to analyze fragments of M. Faizi's poems to find their meaning and value. This study showed that the human value that described the local wisdom of the Madurese in M. Faizi’s poem was a reality. This finding was also supported by a number of studies on Madurese indigenous people. Thus, in addition to having a figurative language, M. Faizi's poems also contained contextual meanings, and this characterized an element of objectivism in his poems

    This study observed the form and mechanism of power of the New Order in Wiji Thukul’s poem to discover theoretical and factual novelty. This study applied sociology of literature as an approach to gain a strengthening basis about the relationship between Wiji Thukul’s poem and social context during the New Order. The theory of Power by Michel Foucault was used to overview and highlight the form and mechanism of power of The New Order, so that the model of the analysis was analytical descriptive. The object of this study was the antology of Wiji Thukul’s poem Nyanyian Akar Rumput. Based on the analysis, there found that the New Order was an authoritative, repressive, and oppressive government. His power performed through the relation of power and dominant discourse that were spread and legitimated through power networking established by the New Order. This characteristics of power had made Wiji Thukul consistently sacrificed and struggled to conduct a resistance by media of poem. From this study, there could be concluded that Wiji Thukul’s poem was fully loaded with intense and dominant sociological outlook

    Teaching English for Tertiary Students in Pesantren: A Narrative during and Post Pandemic COVID-19

    The problem in English learning is determining how learners and teachers adjusted to remote learning methods. This study identified and evaluated the English learning difficulties encountered by students in non-English departments. This study included students from five different academic programs, namely Islamic Education (PAI), Management of Islamic Education (MPI), Akhwalusy Syakhshiyah (AS), Primary School Teacher Education (PGMI), and Islamic Banking (PS). The qualitative research was used in this study, along with a phenomenological approach. The data were obtained from a questionnaire through Google Form to students in these departments. The questionnaire discussed challenges that students had when learning English with an online system, materials that students did not grasp, and students' expectations for English language learning. The data were analyzed by including several research and ideas related to previously formulated materials in the questionnaire. This study was supposed to be taken into account while developing techniques and strategies for English language acquisition for non-English students in higher education. This study resulted that the dominant problems faced by respondents were online learning systems (54.8%), and applications used as learning media (29%). Other problems included limited internet network access, difficulty in understanding English courses, lack of detailed material exposure, and laziness

    In the contemporary world, the dynamics of culture and communication are constantly evolving due to the forces of modernization. Traditional rituals and practices often undergo transformations as societies adapt to new realities. The research aims to analyze symbolic communication in the ritual of Slametan Ngawandasa Ndinteni in the village of East Kasiyan, using a semiotic approach. In the context of modernization, the ritual faces challenges in preserving its meaning and relevance amid social and cultural changes. Therefore, this study seeks to understand the symbolic values embedded in the ritual and the role of symbolic communication in strengthening cultural identity and social cohesion in the community. The research adopts a qualitative approach with semiotic analysis method. This research employs a qualitative research design, aiming to deeply explore the semiotic aspects of Slametan Ngawandasa Ndinteni ritual and its significance in the context of modernization. Data is collected through participatory observation during the implementation of Slametan Ngawandasa Ndinteni, as well as in-depth interviews with 20 participants, they were 5 community figures, 5 local leaders, and 10 cultural practitioners related to the communication. Besides, relevant documents and literature are used to support the analysis. The research findings reveal that Slametan Ngawandasa Ndinteni is a ritual rich in signs and symbols, including language, bodily movements, and ritual objects. These signs form a complex system of symbolic communication, containing profound meanings about tradition, religious beliefs, as well as identity and social relationships in the community

    The utilization of figurative language in sports reporting significantly enhances communication’s allure and competitiveness within this realm. Figurative language entails expressions not meant to be taken literally but carrying implied meanings that enrich interpretation for readers or listeners. It crucially illustrates action and drama in sports news, engendering a more immersive reading experience and influencing how events are comprehended. This research probes into the use of figurative language, particularly expressions and metaphors, within sports reporting's context. The study’s focal point was the June 1, 2018 edition of the esteemed Indonesian newspaper, Java Pos, renowned for its vibrant sports reporting, particularly in football. Data consisted of expressions and metaphors in the form of verbs, nouns, adjectives, and numerals, sourced from Java Pos' sports reporting (June 1, 2018 edition), especially relating to football. The methodology involved participatory observation reading 7 football-specific sports pieces and scrutinizing each for expressions and metaphors. Additionally, documentation was employed collecting and analyzing articles from the designated edition to assess metaphors and expressions through a figurative language lens. Post data collection, data was condensed and classified by category (nouns, verbs, adjectives, and numerals) then verified and interpreted contextually. Content analysis was applied for data analysis, comprehending the contextual use and its impact on reader comprehension. The findings unveiled the presence of expressions and metaphors, encompassing verb phrases, nouns, adjectives, and numerals, in the news reports. This study uncovers the usage of figurative language, enriching communication, fostering creativity, and contributing to elevated sports reporting quality and deeper audience understanding
