In general, student’s world demands a change in the individual's behavior to suit the environment. This in many cases results the need for students to take different strategies to deal with the new requirements that are demanded. However, many students lack these strategies or present academic behaviors that are inappropriate to the new demands. By this way are well known the research which shows the academic stress impact on health problems and physical reactions and physiological, as well as, psychological and behavioral in college students. Thanks to all academic stress papers can be establish a starting point towards the fight against this social problem, which although it has been underestimated, it has serious effects on the physical, psychological, social and economic affecting not only students but society in general.

This work describes the results obtained in a study of secondary source’s analysis related to Professional Identity at educational contexts. For this review, it has been taken into account those papers included in the scientific database ERIC, published between 2001 and 2011 in which Professional Identity (PI from now on) in educational contexts is investigated. Once a list of studies involved in this topic were obtained, we proceed to select the ten more cited papers in order to analyze them focusing on, its objectives, the definition of the PI offered by the authors, the methodology employed and the discipline from which this study has been accomplished. The obtained results have been compared with the results offered by a precedent research made by Biejaard, Meijer y Verloop (2004). They made a review of Teacher’s PI studies between 1988 and 2000. In general terms, we have realized that, comparing with the results obtained in Biejaard et al’s study, in the last decade it already exists an explicit definition of PI concept, but a lot of aspects –as far as theoretical, as well as methodological- need a mayor precision from the researchers on this emergent area of study.

The Arctic environment is changing, increasing the vulnerability of local communities and ecosystems, and impacting its socio-economic landscape. In this context, weather and climate prediction systems can be powerful tools to support strategic planning and decision-making at different time horizons. This article presents several success stories from the H2020 project APPLICATE on how to advance Arctic weather and seasonal climate prediction, synthesizing the key lessons learned throughout the project and providing recommendations for future model and forecast system development. The results discussed in this article were supported by the project APPLICATE (727862), funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. Neutron Position Sensitive Detectors for the ESS

The European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden will become the world's leading neutron source for the study of materials. The instruments are being selected from conceptual proposals submitted by groups from around Europe. These instruments present numerous challenges for detector technology in the absence of the availability of Helium-3, which is the default choice for detectors for instruments built until today and due to the extreme rates expected across the ESS instrument suite. Additionally a new generation of source requires a new generation of detector technologies to fully exploit the opportunities that this source provides. The detectors will be sourced from partners across Europe through numerous in-kind arrangements; a process that is somewhat novel for the neutron scattering community. This contribution presents briefly the current status of detectors for the ESS, and outlines the timeline to completion. For a conjectured instrument suite based upon instruments recommended for construction, a recently updated snapshot of the current expected detector requirements is presented. A strategy outline as to how these requirements might be tackled by novel detector developments is shown. In terms of future developments for the neutron community, synergies should be sought with other disciples, as recognized by various recent initiatives in Europe, in the context of the fundamentally multi-disciplinary nature of detectors. This strategy has at its basis the in-kind and collaborative partnerships necessary to be able to produce optimally performant detectors that allow the ESS instruments to be world-leading. This foresees and encourages a high level of collaboration and interdependence at its core, and rather than each group being all-rounders in every technology, the further development of centres of excellence across Europe for particular technologies and niches.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure. Air pollution, inflammation and preterm birth in Mexico City: Study design and methods

    Get PDF
Preterm birth is one of the leading causes of perinatal mortality and is associated with long-term adverse health consequences for surviving infants. Preterm birth rates are rising worldwide, and no effective means for prevention currently exists. Air pollution exposure may be a significant cause of prematurity, but many published studies lack the individual, clinical data needed to elucidate possible biological mechanisms mediating these epidemiological associations. This paper presents the design of a prospective study now underway to evaluate those mechanisms in a cohort of pregnant women residing in Mexico City. We address how air quality may act together with other factors to induce systemic inflammation and influence the duration of pregnancy. Data collection includes: biomarkers relevant to inflammation in cervico-vaginal exudate and peripheral blood, along with full clinical information, pro-inflammatory cytokine gene polymorphisms and air pollution data to evaluate spatial and temporal variability in air pollution exposure. Samples are collected on a monthly basis and participants are followed for the duration of pregnancy. The data will be used to evaluate whether ambient air pollution is associated with preterm birth, controlling for other risk factors. We will evaluate which time windows during pregnancy are most influential in the air pollution and preterm birth association. In addition, the epidemiological study will be complemented with a parallel toxicology invitro study, in which monocytic cells will be exposed to air particle samples to evaluate the expression of biomarkers of inflammation
