Resonance modes in a 1D medium with two purely resistive boundaries: calculation methods, orthogonality and completeness
Studying the problem of wave propagation in media with resistive boundaries
can be made by searching for "resonance modes" or free oscillations regimes. In
the present article, a simple case is investigated, which allows one to
enlighten the respective interest of different, classical methods, some of them
being rather delicate. This case is the 1D propagation in a homogeneous medium
having two purely resistive terminations, the calculation of the Green function
being done without any approximation using three methods. The first one is the
straightforward use of the closed-form solution in the frequency domain and the
residue calculus. Then the method of separation of variables (space and time)
leads to a solution depending on the initial conditions. The question of the
orthogonality and completeness of the complex-valued resonance modes is
investigated, leading to the expression of a particular scalar product. The
last method is the expansion in biorthogonal modes in the frequency domain, the
modes having eigenfrequencies depending on the frequency. Results of the three
methods generalize or/and correct some results already existing in the
literature, and exhibit the particular difficulty of the treatment of the
constant mode
Symplectic areas, quantization, and dynamics in electromagnetic fields
A gauge invariant quantization in a closed integral form is developed over a
linear phase space endowed with an inhomogeneous Faraday electromagnetic
tensor. An analog of the Groenewold product formula (corresponding to Weyl
ordering) is obtained via a membrane magnetic area, and extended to the product
of N symbols. The problem of ordering in quantization is related to different
configurations of membranes: a choice of configuration determines a phase
factor that fixes the ordering and controls a symplectic groupoid structure on
the secondary phase space. A gauge invariant solution of the quantum evolution
problem for a charged particle in an electromagnetic field is represented in an
exact continual form and in the semiclassical approximation via the area of
dynamical membranes.Comment: 39 pages, 17 figure
Heisenberg Evolution WKB and Symplectic Area Phases
The Schrodinger and Heisenberg evolution operators are represented in quantum
phase space by their Weyl symbols. Their semiclassical approximations are
constructed in the short and long time regimes. For both evolution problems,
the WKB representation is purely geometrical: the amplitudes are functions of a
Poisson bracket and the phase is the symplectic area of a region in phase space
bounded by trajectories and chords. A unified approach to the Schrodinger and
Heisenberg semiclassical evolutions is developed by introducing an extended
phase space. In this setting Maslov's pseudodifferential operator version of
WKB analysis applies and represents these two problems via a common higher
dimensional Schrodinger evolution, but with different extended Hamiltonians.
The evolution of a Lagrangian manifold in the extended phase space, defined by
initial data, controls the phase, amplitude and caustic behavior. The
symplectic area phases arise as a solution of a boundary condition problem.
Various applications and examples are considered.Comment: 32 pages, 7 figure

Banking Concentration and Financial Stability. New Evidence from Developed and Developing Countries
In this paper, we analyze the relationship between banking concentration and financial stability for a sample of 156 developed and developing countries during the period 1980-2011. Our study first examines the direct effect of banking concentration on financial stability. The results provide evidence that concentration does not directly affect the stability of the financial system. The study also investigates two indirect channels and finds that concentration has a positive and stabilizing impact on financial stability through the profitability channel and a negative and destabilizing impact through the interest rate channel. When considering the level of development across countries, our results support the existence of a stabilizing effect of concentration on financial stability and the absence of a destabilizing interest channel for developing countries. Interestingly, our results also indicate that concentration has a direct and indirect effect on financial stability during crisis periods, but no direct effect on financial stability during normal periods.Scopu

Previous issue date: 2015-03-31Infection by HIV-Aids is a major global public health problem, with strong impact in
developing countries like Brazil. Recently, we have observed a feminization of the
epidemic. This fact led to the development of this research, having women with
HIV-AIDS as an object of study object. The main objectives of this research were to
present the situation of the epidemic in the world, in Brazil and in Goiás; establish the
relationship between medicine and religion, including the sight of women with HIV;
highlight the feelings of patients because they are carriers of a virus with lethal
characteristics; state the importance of religion in confronting these challenges posed
by the disease; and, finally, relate to the role of the family in the fight against
HIV-AIDS. The survey was conducted using a questionnaire as an instrument that
was applied exclusively by the researcher in 30 patients infected by the virus and
proven in medical follow-up in the Hospital of Tropical Diseases in Goiania-HDT-HAA
or infectious diseases CLIMIPI, specializing in treatment of infectious diseases, both
in Goiânia. The answers were recorded and subsequently transcribed in written text.
The answers were systematized, displayed on tables and subsequently analyzed. All
religious expressions mentioned are included in Christianity. 14 women interviewed
declared themselves Evangelical, Catholic 11 and kardecist spiritists 5. The HIV virus
was the infectious agent most studied in the history of medicine, which allowed great
advances in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease, although there is still no
available available. The relationship of religion and medicine has existed since
antiquity, oncea main task of religion was the spiritual and physical healing of
people. For Laplantine (2004), the advancement of science brought a temporary
disruption of this relationship, turning to find right after the reduction of the impact of
secularization. The studied patients recognize the importance of this relationship and
showed categorically that enjoy and appreciate both the medical expertise as the
manifestation of the religious phenomenon in confronting the infection. The most
expressive feelings expressed by the patients when asked about their feeling when
they heard the word HIV or AIDS were: fear, prejudice, sexuality. The prejudice of
non contaminated people proved to be more important than the fear of death by
disease. Already the challenge caused by the strong guard sexuality relationship with
sexual taboos, and the Church itself singled out as responsible for most of them. The
patients reconized the importance of religion in the resolution of these problems,
although some contradiction in dogmas with strong prejudice of sexuality arose. As
for the role of the family, the reports are from families that support, but also those
which do not support. In which support is clear demonstration of the importance in
combating the disease evolution.
das pacientes por se encontrarem portadoras de um vÃrus com caracterÃsticas letais;
a importância da religião no enfrentamento desses desafios impostos pela doença;
analisadas. Todas as expressões religiosas mencionadas estão incluÃdas no
Cristianismo.
As pacientes estudadas reconhecem a importância
conhecimentos médicos quanto a manifestação do fenômeno religioso no
As
