    Smoke control and "DĂ©senfumage" systems

    The intention of this technical note is to explain what a smoke control (SC) system is, and to what extent SC systems (and derivatives) are used at CERN. The role of ST Division in relation to these systems will be analysed, and some improvements suggested. This note is particularly addressed to people with local safety responsibility (TSO, DSO, etc.) but it also might be of interest to the CERN user in general. The complete list of facilities, under the responsibility of ST, having any relation with the control of smoke can be found at the end of the note

    Formulation and Evaluation of Tablet in Tablet of Magnesium Glycine Complex and Vitamin D3 Tablets

    The present research work is design and evaluate tablet in tablet of Magnesium and Vitamin D3 tablets (250 mg/1200 IU). Vitamin D is important for bone structure. If there is too little Vitamin D available not enough calcium reaches the blood through the intestinal walls. Magnesium & vitamin D essential for bone synthesis otherwise intensify to Osteoporosis. Mg is also credited with stabilizing functions in bone building. If there is no stabilizing function of Mg during bone synthesis, this also decrease bone density. The term Osteoporosis already indicates a lack of calcium in the bones. Mg & vitamin D rich diet can help to bring calcium back to where it belongs. All the formulations were evaluated for physical characteristics, disintegration, in vitro disintegration study and stability. Following conclusions have been made from the present study. PREFORMULATION STUDIES: The pre-formulation study carried out that angle of repose, bulk density, tapped density, compressibility, Hausner ratio. The results were clearly shown. Manufacturing process is lengthy but in the formulated product shows greater stability with adding less overages. EVALUATION OF DESIGNED FORMULATIONS: Post formulation studies: Physical characterization of all the lubricated blends were carried out and found to have good flow properties. The physical characteristics of all the blended formulations were satisfactory. The tablets prepared with the plain polymer mixture combination were found to have desired limits of hardness and thickness and complies to weight variation and within the official limits of friability. The drug release for formulation F4 was found to be 91.34% at the end of 45 mins. The prepared tablets were evaluated for Weight variation, Hardness, Friability, Disintegration time, Drug content and The prepared tablets evaluated for Assay, weight variation, thickness and Disintegration time were found to be within the official limits. The in vitro disintegration studies were performed for all the IT and OT formulations. The in vitro dissolution tests. The results were clearly shown. Accelerated Stability studies were also done for optimized formulation F4, F5 and the results were found satisfactory. This research work proven formulation tablet in tablet F4 of shows good stability compared with other 4 formulation. CONCLUSION: The results Vitamin D3 tablet in tablets of evaluation of different batches were done. The HPLC assy study shows that there was drug content final tablet. The weight variation limited tablets was found maximum up to ± 1.2 % RSD. Hardness was found to be within 3.0 to 4.0 kg/cm2 which limit friability within 0.7% only. The evaluation results of F4 batches were found to be satisfactory within limit and the disintegration time (4min). the same ratio the formulation F4 gave 92.47% drug release at 45 mins time point. The drug Contents was found to be within limits nd all tablets were passing the dispersion test. Vitamin D3 tablet in tablets of optimized all batch were of satisfactory stability during 3 months of accelerated stability studies

    The Boomerang Effect: How Nurses' Regulation of Patients' Affect Associates With Their Own Emotional Exhaustion and Affective Experiences

    Recent research has shown that the intentional regulation of others’ affect has effects not only on the target (e.g., a patient) of the regulation, but also on the agent (e.g., a nurse). In particular, the use of intentional interpersonal affect regulation strategies has been found to predict employees’ emotional exhaustion (EEx). Use of affect-worsening strategies is associated with an increase in EEx, whereas the effect of using affect-improving strategies is less clear. Another relevant consequence of interpersonal affect regulation is its effect on affective experiences, which is one of the main determinants of job attitudes. This study tests the relationships between the interpersonal affect regulation strategies that nurses use to regulate their patients’ affect and the nurses’ EEx and affective experiences. A longitudinal 2-wave field study was conducted in sample of nurses. Participants completed a questionnaire on 2 different occasions, 2 months apart (Time 1 [T1], Time 2 [T2]). Of the 141 participants at T1, 103 also completed the survey at T2. Longitudinal hierarchical regression analyses showed that using affect-worsening strategies was a significant predictor of nurse’s EEx, whereas using affect-improving strategies did not significantly predict their EEx. For affective experiences, use of affect-worsening strategies was related to nurses experiencing low-activation negative affect (e.g., feeling depressed); whereas affect-improving strategies was related to them experiencing low-activation positive affect (e.g., feeling calm). Results support the view that intentional regulation of patients’ affect needs to be considered not only in relation to the patients’ perception of service quality but also from the perspective of nurses’ well-being

    High brightness solution-processed OLEDs employing linear, small molecule emitters

    Two novel linear oligomers that can be solution-processed to form green organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) are reported. Each oligomer has a donor-acceptor structure, incorporating a benzothiadiazole core with bifluorene arms attached at the 4- and 7-positions. Further electron donor behaviour is inferred from a terminal triphenylamine unit in Green 2. The resulting solution-processed OLEDs exhibited excellent performance, with a maximum luminance of 20 388 cd m-2 recorded for Green 2

    Mercury Concentrations in Tropical Resident and Migrant Songbirds on Hispaniola

    Despite growing concerns over mercury (Hg) exposure to humans and wildlife on a global scale, little is known about Hg bioaccumulation in the New World tropics. From 2005 to 2011, we monitored Hg concentrations in blood of nine avian species occupying a geographic range of tropical wet broadleaf sites on the island of Hispaniola, including eight passerines (two Nearctic- Neotropical migrant and six resident species) and one top order predatory accipiter. Invertivorous songbirds were further differentiated by foraging guild, with six species of groundforagers and two species of foliage-gleaners. Blood Hg concentrations were orders of magnitude higher in birds sampled in central and southern cloud forest sites (1000 – 1800 m elevation) than in northern and northeastern rainforest sites (50 – 500 m elevation), with migratory and resident species both showing 2 – 20 X greater blood Hg concentrations in cloud forests than in rainforests. Within cloud forest sites, ground-foraging species had higher Hg concentrations than foliage-gleaning species. Top order predatory sharp-shinned hawks (Accipiter striatus) had the highest blood Hg concentrations among all species, suggesting that Hg biomagnification is occurring in terrestrial forests of Hispaniola. Two migrant songbird species overwintering on the island had higher blood Hg concentrations than have been recorded on their North American breeding grounds. Future studies should seek to elucidate sources of variation in atmospheric Hg deposition on Hispaniola and to quantify the dynamics of Hg cycling in tropical forest ecosystems, which may differ in important ways from patterns documented in temperate forest ecosystems

    Facial Expression conveys non-verbal cues, which plays an important role in interpersonal relations. The Cognitive Emotion AI system is the process of identifying the emotional state of a person. The main aim of our study is to develop a robust system which can detect as well as recognize human emotion from live feed. There are some emotions which are universal to all human beings like angry, sad, happy, surprise, fear, disgust and neutral. The methodology of this system is based on two stages- facial detection is done by extraction of Haar Cascade features of a face using Viola Jones algorithm and then the emotion is verified and recognized using Artificial Intelligence Techniques. The system will take image or frame as an input and by providing the image to the model the model will perform the preprocessing and feature selection after that it will be predict the emotional state

    Magnesium 2000 postmarket evaluation : Guideline adherence and intraprocedural performance of a sirolimus-eluting resorbable magnesium scaffold

    Background The Magmaris bioresorbable magnesium scaffold was successfully tested in in-vitro and in clinical premarket studies. Subsequently the Magmaris postmarket program aimed to review intraprocedural data of at least 2000 patients to assess user preferences, guideline adherence and intraprocedural performance in clinical routine. Methods This international multicentre survey encompasses data from 356 hospitals across 45 countries. As part of the certification for Magmaris implantation, each hospital had to complete consecutive post-market evaluation forms of their first 10 commercial Magmaris patients. Results From June 2016 to May 2018, data on 2018 implantations were collected. Main reasons for selecting Magmaris was patients' life expectancy (67%, n = 1359) and low or not calcified lesions, (67%, n = 1357). Magmaris was successfully deployed in 99% of cases (n = 1995), predilatation was performed in 95% (n = 1922) and post-dilatation in 87% (n = 1756). Physicians rated the overall performance and the pushability as good or very good in 96% of cases (n = 1799). Guide wire friction, trackability, and conformability were rated as good or very good in 94% of cases, and crossability in 93%. The majority of patients were scheduled to receive dual antiplatelet therapy for up to 12 months. Conclusion Generally, implantation guidelines were adhered to and theoretical advantages of the metal scaffold observed in in-vitro tests have translated into practice with good intraprocedural performance outcomes, confirming the controlled roll-out of this novel technology into clinical practice.     The driver landscape of sporadic chordoma.

    Chordoma is a malignant, often incurable bone tumour showing notochordal differentiation. Here, we defined the somatic driver landscape of 104 cases of sporadic chordoma. We reveal somatic duplications of the notochordal transcription factor brachyury (T) in up to 27% of cases. These variants recapitulate the rearrangement architecture of the pathogenic germline duplications of T that underlie familial chordoma. In addition, we find potentially clinically actionable PI3K signalling mutations in 16% of cases. Intriguingly, one of the most frequently altered genes, mutated exclusively by inactivating mutation, was LYST (10%), which may represent a novel cancer gene in chordoma.Chordoma is a rare often incurable malignant bone tumour.     Recurrent mutation of IGF signalling genes and distinct patterns of genomic rearrangement in osteosarcoma

    Osteosarcoma is a primary malignancy of bone that affects children and adults. Here, we present the largest sequencing study of osteosarcoma to date, comprising 112 childhood and adult tumours encompassing all major histological subtypes. A key finding of our study is the identification of mutations in insulin-like growth factor (IGF) signalling genes in 8/112 (7%) of cases. We validate this observation using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) in an additional 87 osteosarcomas, with IGF1 receptor (IGF1R) amplification observed in 14% of tumours. These findings may inform patient selection in future trials of IGF1R inhibitors in osteosarcoma. Analysing patterns of mutation, we identify distinct rearrangement profiles including a process characterized by chromothripsis and amplification. This process operates recurrently at discrete genomic regions and generates driver mutations. It may represent an age-independent mutational mechanism that contributes to the development of osteosarcoma in children and adults alike
