Obowiązek wobec zasad czy rachunek konsekwencjalny? - Etyczny kontekst uwarunkowań decyzji aborcyjnych uczestniczek forum internetowego
This article presents the results of the analysis of media discourse around the issue of
abortion, women's speech as presented on the pages of the discussion forum ABORTION,
functioning on the web portal www.gazeta.pl. The primary objective of this study is to diagnose
the causes of abortion decision-making by the participants of this forum. Verbalized positioned
determinants of abortion in the context of considerations of a moral (right to life, consequentialism
and deontological ethics). Assumptions consequentialism and deontological ethics – as an ethical
context for women's right to carry out abortions – were assigned to two, opposed in public
discourse in Poland standpoints: the defenders of life – pro-life groups representing the
deontological approach to the issue of abortion, and the defenders of free pro-choice groups
(consequentialism). After this analysis we can say that in public discourse on the issue of abortion
in the analyzed online forum made it clear in the context of ethical considerations, including the
nature of both topics consequential and deontological, and above all stressed the basic idea of
ethics of rights – the question of the right of the unborn child to life and the scope of this right
GC-MS metabolomics-based approach for the identification of a potential VOC-biomarker panel in the urine of renal cell carcinoma patients
The analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emanating from biological samples appears as one of the most promising approaches in metabolomics for the study of diseases, namely cancer. In fact, it offers advantages, such as non-invasiveness and robustness for high-throughput applications. The purpose of this work was to study the urinary volatile metabolic profile of patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) (n = 30) and controls (n = 37) with the aim of identifying a potential specific urinary volatile pattern as a non-invasive strategy to detect RCC. Moreover, the effect of some confounding factors such as age, gender, smoking habits and body mass index was evaluated as well as the ability of urinary VOCs to discriminate RCC subtypes and stages. A headspace solid-phase microextraction/gas chromatography-mass spectrometry-based method was performed, followed by multivariate data analysis. A variable selection method was applied to reduce the impact of potential redundant and noisy chromatographic variables, and all models were validated by Monte Carlo cross-validation and permutation tests. Regarding the effect of RCC on the urine VOCs composition, a panel of 21 VOCs descriptive of RCC was defined, capable of discriminating RCC patients from controls in principal component analysis. Discriminant VOCs were further individually validated in two independent samples sets (nine RCC patients and 12 controls, seven RCC patients with diabetes mellitus type 2) by univariate statistical analysis. Two VOCs were found consistently and significantly altered between RCC and controls (2-oxopropanal and, according to identification using NIST14, 2,5,8-trimethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene-1-ol), strongly suggesting enhanced potential as RCC biomarkers. Gender, smoking habits and body mass index showed negligible and age-only minimal effects on the urinary VOCs, compared to the deviations resultant from the disease. Moreover, in this cohort, the urinary volatilome did not show ability to discriminate RCC stages and histological subtypes. The results validated the value of urinary volatilome for the detection of RCC and advanced with the identification of potential RCC urinary biomarkers.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Medical Environment and Public Opinion Towards Pathology of Medical Practice - Analysis of Press Accounts of So-Called ‘necro-affair’ in Łódź Emergency Service
The text includes multilevel analysis of events in Łódź, described and made known to
public by the journalists of „Gazeta Wyborcza” and Radio Łódź in January 2002. They
influenced the interest of Łódź prosecutor's office and lead to numerous discussions and
comments on the subject of ethical condition of medical professions, disappearance of ethics
in medical environments and ethical dilemmas caused by those events. The authoress aims to
present the state of affair after the first publications from all sides of the affair. That is why
the standpoints of doctors, public opinion, journalists and politicians are presented.Zadanie pt. „Digitalizacja i udostępnienie w Cyfrowym Repozytorium Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego kolekcji czasopism naukowych wydawanych przez Uniwersytet Łódzki” nr 885/P-DUN/2014 dofinansowane zostało ze środków MNiSW w ramach działalności upowszechniającej naukę
Social roles in advertising as an example of psychosociological background of marketing practice
The text, concerning analysis of sociological and psychological factors that are present in
marketing practice, focuses on the theory of social roles.
Social roles and relevant status and prestige are presented as a chain link joining both
psychological and sociological factors influencing consumers’ decisions and their behaviour
concerning both choice and act of purchasing of a product of some brand. The author’s
approach, presenting social roles in the view of system of positions occupied by individuals
and their expectations towards position-related behaviour, leads to several analogies with
practice of marketing.
Television commercials intend to make an impression that a purchase of some product
is necessary for a person performing some social role in order to obtain relevant status. That
is why people playing for commercials are presented with attributes of performed roles and
relevant status.Zadanie pt. „Digitalizacja i udostępnienie w Cyfrowym Repozytorium Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego kolekcji czasopism naukowych wydawanych przez Uniwersytet Łódzki” nr 885/P-DUN/2014 dofinansowane zostało ze środków MNiSW w ramach działalności upowszechniającej naukę
