In this article, we retrace the emergence of metalinguistic awareness in school children through the examination of language contact and other relevant phenomena. To this end, we analyse instances of classroom interaction and attempt to identify the developing linguistic awareness of these subjects for temporality. Word order and accent

Open charm production at HERA
Inclusive charm meson production cross sections in the deep inelastic
scattering and photoproduction regimes are compared with QCD leading and
next-to-leading (NLO) calculations. The NLO predictions are significantly below
the data in some parts of the measured kinematic range. Angular distributions
of dijet events with charm show clear evidence for the existence of charm
originating from the incoming photon. The charm fragmentation function is
measured for the first time at HERA. Various fragmentation ratios and the
fragmentation fractions of the low-lying charm hadrons are determined and
compared to previous e+e- results.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figures, to appear in the proceedings of the International

Latest Highlights from the H1 Collaboration
Recent data obtained in ep collisions at HERA by the H1 collaboration are
presented: searches for new phenomena beyond the Standard Model, measurement of
the inclusive neutral and charged current cross sections and of the proton
structure function, determination of the gluon density in the proton and photon
from jet productions, measurement and interpretation of event shapes in the
current region of the Breit frame, test of the parton evolution at low x and of
the diffractive production mechanism.Comment: 17 pages, 21 figures, plenary talk at 7th International Workshop on
Deep Inelastic Scattering and QCD, Berlin-Zeuthen (Germany), April 199
The H1 Forward Proton Spectrometer at HERA
The forward proton spectrometer is part of the H1 detector at the HERA
collider. Protons with energies above 500 GeV and polar angles below 1 mrad can
be detected by this spectrometer. The main detector components are
scintillating fiber detectors read out by position-sensitive photo-multipliers.
These detectors are housed in so-called Roman Pots which allow them to be moved
close to the circulating proton beam. Four Roman Pot stations are located at
distances between 60 m and 90 m from the interaction point.Comment: 20 pages, 10 figures, submitted to Nucl.Instr.and Method
Theoretical constraints on new generations with and without Quarks or Neutrinos
We consider large classes of chiral extensions of the Standard Model,
including new quark generations that do not involve additional neutrinos as
well as lepton generations without quarks. An analysis of renormalization flows
of Yukawa and quartic scalar couplings reveals that additional quarks are not
compatible with a scenario of grand unification without violating the strong
bounds from direct and Higgs searches at colliders. Constraints from direct
searches, electroweak precision observables, and Higgs physics, together with
the assumption that additional new physics beyond the extended chiral field
content should enter significantly above the TeV scale, allows us to make
predictions for searches at the LHC
